Ok I will come clean, I teach (part time) at a local technical college. I Teach VB and I teach it well ( it think ).
Whilst I agree that RH availabiity is a good thing I can point out that the concept of considering such a bold technical move for most Schools and educational establishments would be un thought of. They lack the Skills, resources or the time to consider refocusing their attempts to move to another platform.
I envangelise and 'talk up' Linux and Open source solutions. I am trying to convince the College that teaching a course about Javascript, HTML, PHP, Apache, MYSQL, ZEND, would be more beneficial. But the Descision makers on the Boards of these schools look for serious comfort and safety zones and MS gives it to them.
If RH wants to Give Linux to schools thats Swell but if should give the man power time and training as well.
As for me Im trying to convince my 15 year old Sister in Law who has a apptitude for Computers that Using Linux would be way more Cool than Windows. But Peer pressure and Technical Awareness in the UK are two different time zones.
we promise to give back their secret decoder ring if they promise to stop Monopolising Software development within the M$ arena and to provide support for a wider range of software standards. Better Drivers, Decoders and GPL source Code to boot.
....ooops I just realised I was living in Fairly Land.
Mind you (cost of Developing Support within Linux pro-DVD Community = Cost of tacking Linux pro-DVD Community to Court.)
Well as long as you lack the propensity towards Naturist SwordPlay in local places of worship then I think we might all be quite safe. Still its so nice to see that no matter how well defined the minority are they can still be segragated, defined and penalised for being other than the norm.
I dont know. Though I did once have a lecturer who once said.
"There is no such thing as power, without responsibility " {he was teaching C programming}.

OK heres my rememberances on this subject. 1. XOR was a comptetion computer game in the eaclry 80's that was initially run on the BBC micro as part of the UK hobbyist scene.
2. It was up against Repton (can anyone say Boulderdash) and was actaully quite cool in terms of Gimmick.
3. IT WAS HARD AS HELL TO 11 year olds ( Im 28 now btw).
4. If we can do this im in to help any way I can.
5. Try the BBC micro emulator people they are certified to remember, try Stuart Mconighie(Spelling) He Works (worked for Boots Opticians UK) and has a a totally unmemorable site. However he has one of the best emulators going and it runs in Dosemu sweet. From there your connections to Acorn and the like are bound to jump around.
Welll Ive read all this before, hell I have seen it all before. ok lets review some details
1. Anecdotal stories: Well Reliance Mutual look to be moving to Linux. And then there is the My own Company (Who promote NT) whose website runs FREEBSD, then How about the fact that Rodenstock Germany (Big Optical Company) work with Linux as a development platform. The US army think NT is poor performer. No major, and for this I mean AOL, UUNET, DEMON ISP will use NT as its backbone in service provision.
2. Linux Community: The report uses it to sound denegrating but lkets see. For each app, utility and service there is a clear line of responsibility, opportunity and information. Heck we even know who co-ordinates on the Kernel updates, patches and we can redress the distributors and autors or modules for any extra help if we see fit.
3. Promises of SMP.... Well excuse me for not running a superserver but most mid level and small businesses, lets face it they are the ones paying for MS licenses, will not need or require that level of service. Those looking for hight end server perfromance are most likley running 64Bit systems (can anyone say Alpha? Unix?)
4. Late release of FUD most likely.
As a lecturer in Visual Basic and a seasoned tech support professional in NT and windows I will say this. Out of 20 Students on my part time course in VB over half are llooking to install Linux. Of the 14 People who consult me about installing and upgrading their machines, or getting into the "industry" all will want to install Linux by christmas.
Ummmmmm.... This is the Barn, the horse is gone! do you wish to close the doors?
I use my PalmPilot for reading books and information regulary. What strikes me is the screen width is to narrow to be comfortable for any sort of reading. If you could just rotate the text 90degres so that I read the palmpilot screen on its side. For me this seems more appropriatte format for reading on the Palm pilot.
A developer working for the "authorities" is placed in a position of responsibility within a well known and respected Antivirus company. using technology already available from the likes of the CDC (cult of the dead cow). The developer, slips in the trojan code, which whill of course appear to be part of the native install. Once installed your machine runs the software which activates the server element. Using standard plugins the server mails your current ip address and in turn the "authorities" are aware when you go online, what you IP is and if they wish can enable their client to inpect your machine.
Now lets say we encrypt the machine, using what? a password. Well your going to type that password in and if you do who says the keystrokes are not being caught and examined.....
Encryption, and privacy are important issues I agree but what I really would like to see are
scanners and detectors.
If I am being watched I want to know, if I am being tapped I want to be aware. If my words are being noted and used in evidence against me I should be notified.........
Freedom of speech should include responsibility for your actions and results. Someone can hear me talk any time they like but at least I can have the option to shut up if I think those are listening whom I dont wish to speak to.

K Smith managed the same with Clerks in terms of originality and enthusiasm in a film. Mall rats was a little to 'tied' and Chasing Amy was great but a little over edited. Now Dogma soon arrives and he will be using CGI. From Clerks to Dogma I wonder how well the story will be presented.
Debian? Hell im moving to Suse and for the following reasons. 1. Suse input into Local UK magazines. 2. Less Lib issues ( from experience) 3. Too much RH sidling upto Blue Chips...
as For E well I tried to get Gnome working as E was required to install I discovered E worked. Sorry Miguel but E worked. first come first served. Still Gnome applets are cute and Raster keep on truckin
Yeah I had same problems, I posted a very basic howto on my site. Plus I solved the other integration issues of Ditto and 56k Internals so please have a look http://www.ashaman.force9.co.uk/nik/linux/linuX- Files.html
