259 companies aren't terribly embarrassed about implementing systems so badly that a 15 yr kid using cut and paste broke into their systems and viewed our personal information, credit card numbers, the dreaded social security number, etc, etc.
We really need to start taking these companies to task for their pitiful respect of the information we entrust to them. The kids in the wrong, no argument from me there, but couldn't they at least have invested enough effort to prevent point and drool attacks from working?
If they aren't easy to remember then people write them down, put them on sticky notes on their monitors and the like. It's not just about the math, it's about the social practices as well. I think multiple word pass phrases are still our best avenue for the common man.
We professional types handling encryption keys and such should probably be pushing that extra strength of full random strings but we also handle them professionally and keep them secure and we certainly don't expect that from Joe Enduser.
So glad we're doing more to aid the stalkers and other folks you don't really want to be around. I'm sure this will be handled with all of the responsibility and good judgment we see exercised by companies handling personal information.
The change you speak of here is artificial. Why is it it costs so much more per person for health care in the US. I can tell you why, I just paid $1600 for two prescriptions that certainly don't cast that much to make, not even close. But, because no one stops them they charge what they want. Our government should not be paying these outrageous prices for our peoples health and neither should we. Regulate the drug companies and droves of "medical equipment" manufacturers that are profiteering on peoples pain, bring those costs down in line with at least the rest of world (we can do far better). That's where to get the money back, not by killing the poor and making medicine in the US elitist.
This is wonderful! Soon the computer will be able to tell us what's cool and what's not. We'll know just what products to by and when. Utopia I tell you!
Wait, you're gonna make it so peoples cars will shut off their engines when they receive a signal from a transmitter the could be in someone elses car? Really, this is gonna be more fun than the taco bell takeover.
We could use the keyboard to change the volume, attack, decay of musical note. Heck we could even include some side to side motion on the key to change other characteristics and... oh wait, my music keyboards have done this for years. Are you sure this is patentable? Oh, I guess if you can patent a word processor in 2009 you can patent anything....
I certainly don't save in MS formats except as a way to send said documents to the MS impaired. I've even taken to a habit of sending both to the MS impaired folks just because it's fun to explain to them that the little od? file that is usually 1/10 the size of the MS format contains all the same information and formatting.

If you are just talking about fault tolerance (FT) then spill a drink on the FT server then spill a drink on a clustered server and see the difference:) If we are not limited to fault tolerance than try load balancing an FT server with.. um..er... itself. This is really apples and oranges. BTW, I like FT servers in a cluster!
