It's a statistics thing. If 50% of all their marks take 3 weeks to find out their some 13 year old playing a prank on their african ass, then it becoem 50% less profitable. IF we ensure the number of counter-scammers and time wasters is equal to or greater then the number of gullible fools then we're doing the fools a favor and reducing how many marks the scammers cand o. They actually do, since they represent a percentage of the GNP (no exact figures but a non 0 value), they want them to rbign in as much foreign currency as possibel. So they make it hard to extradite, hard to track, and support them so long as the heat is low and it costs nothing.
On any given project: if you give yourself an extra 50% more time, the project will consume those 50 and still have crunch time. It's simply phychology. When a dead line is far away people work more slowly and on less vital things. As the deadline looms, the people frantically code the essentials, hoping beyond hoep to make the deadline.

Firstly, the only way this will happen if said nerd went to the criminals country. Which would be incredibly stupid. They might be able to track down the person via email and ip look ups and so on, but generally their too dumb for that. Maybe 1 in 100 scamemr could do that. 480i can still be displayed on normal sets. just needs a dumb converter. 480i is much better then analog but it's not HDTV. 1080i is. 480i is nothign special. 480i is the signal I got form my satalite conenction. Crisp most fo the tiem. On the HDTV it looks pretty poor. PS2 is 480i compatable so is everythign else with the right cables (I mean cube and xbox).

MMORPG have almost universly made several orders of magnitute less then expected. Why? because developers think "I sold X copies of Level Grin Mania 7, If I make a MMORPG I can make X * 20$ a month for ever. OMG I'll be rich". But in reality ends up selling 1% of X. Because most people despise MMORPG specifically because it's rather dull killing the same monster for 2 weeks (or 5 months if you high level) to gain 1 level. And it's also annoying having to spend so much time gaining levels. We like RPG levels because it gives us an inflated sense of power, in a MMORPG they take that away... so we don't buy it.

At least when their consoles come out, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all lose money on each console sale. This is a standard business practice in the video games industry. I do not know much much they currently lose or gain on each sale. The companies probably don't want their consoles being seen as old and therefore bad or some other marketing nonsense. Maybe console sales look good for 3rd parties deciding which platforms to develop for.
Actually, the PS2 was sold at a loss for a few(6) months but soon got into being profitable via fab yeild increases and vertical intergration. The Cube was profitable since day one. The only current console to sell at a loss is the Xbox. At least that Nintendos line, that they won't sell a console at a loss and the PS2 is so old and so massivly produced that the chips are commodity even though only sony fabs them.

I was wrong, a converter isn't even needed just has to have a svideo cable. otherwise it needs a cable converter.

Penetration will be slow. Don't expect it in many homes until at least half a decade from now. I bought one. But I'm a tech geek.
