Because the average manager won't even recognize a commandline program as being IM, they will just assume you are programming or something else over their head!:-)
At least that worked for me till my manager finally caught one of my co-workers with a mud client and started paying more attention when she saw us on the command line.:-(
Maybe it's time to start backing the IP law mongers. That way they will just get things to a point where no one is willing to inovate in any way whatsoever for fear of being sued, all progress comes to a complete standstill, and the general public finally gets a clue and demands it all go away for good!
I seem to remember someone writing a linux kernel module that lets you use extra video mem as a very fast virtual drive.
