I've seen ads for casinos touting .98 average payout on the dollar.

A payout rate of between 92% and 98% sounds about right for poker machines, however the trick is that they give you the money in such a way that you keep playing.

ie: Put in $100, while you lose that $100, you've won $95. You don't realise because the 'credit' amount is slowly decreasing. Then, as you lose the $95 that you won, you 'win' $90. And so on, until you have "none money".

That's the problem with this whole argument. On one hand you have the 'this ruling is ok' side with their reasonable explainations of the implications of the ruling. On the other you have the 'OMFG THIS DESTROYS THE INTERNET FOREVER!!!!11! and you all suck if you disagree' side. (No, you didn't say people suck for disagreeing, but others in this topic have.)

It makes it easy to decide who is 'right' though.

I suppose your mileage may vary, but I think the average US State use an "employment at will" guidline, which means I can fire you for anything I want, except some obvious (race, sex, age, etc). I could probably even fire you for those if I dont tell you.

Sure, if you do say 'get out', I will ask why. And if you don't have a good answer (like: "You're stealing from the company and the cops are waiting outside" or "We can only afford 4 staff and you're the 5th best", I'll be claiming race, sex, age, etc discrimination.

Groundless? Quite likely, but most companies can see the benefit in explaining the reasons to the person being fired, rather than a Judge.
