  1. Re:More Separatist Crap on L.A. Times Columnist Says Geek-Autism is a Good Thing · · Score: 2
The goal of these discussions are not to unite our groups of über geeks against the other 99% f the bell curve, but to give us insight on what causes our un-normal behavior (no, I don't care what you think of "normal" stereotypes). Knowing what causes you to be who you are is a great tool in being successful. http://keirsey.com/frame.html

Just like the Myers-Brigg Type Indicator, it is a tool. And when understood, it allows you to make better decisions which will affect the rest of your life.

On that note I suggest that everyone here take the MBTI and understand your type. I would guess that the majority of geeks are INTP's or INTJ's. When you understand the complexities of introversion, you will be able to look more clearly at shadow syndromes of autism, and you will realize that it may be one of the causes that make many of us such strong introverts.

The "HF" types of fluorescents he speaks of are indeed superior to 'regular' fluorescent types... I use them on my boat, primarily because of the dimming capability. The smoother light output is a great improvement over other inexpensive types.

However, these types of fluoro's are very expensive and are often very hard to locate... Besides the OEM, I had to find a specialty lighting store to find anyone who knew of the lights I was looking for...

Goss (R-Fla.) said the ability of the intelligence community to deny access to documents on intelligence programs could "seriously hobble the legislative oversight process" provided for by the Constitution and would "result in the envelopment of the executive branch in a cloak of secrecy."

I think legislative oversight broke a long time ago... They have been operating outside their authorized parameters for a very long time, and every American (especially those that have ever done anything questionable over a telephone line) should not allow this issue to die in Congress now that it has finally come to the surface.

I really hate watching script-kiddies telling each other that they are hackers, not crackers and vice versa; much like everyone else in this group. Slashdot has a broad enough audience, I'm sure something new will catch on sooner or later.
