In regard to the Space Shuttle, I have said the same thing since they decided to retire the fleet. It seems the greatest cost of having things in space has always been getting them off the ground. There was no reason to bring the shuttles back once we knew they weren't going to be used again. I remember that, besides the Smithsonian, many institutions complained about how expensive it would be just for annual maintenance to keep a shuttle on display.
So, as you suggested, they should have moved it to a higher orbit and abandoned it. High above all the space junk it would not be a hazard to any satellites.
That was my first thought. Even the explanation of the extra energy coming from heat is nice and doesn't stop solar cell from working. Might actually work well together: the cell is going to leak heat, this will soak it up.
Actually I was thinking about this myself yesterday. I thought that any embassy could provide a WiFi hotspot that provide access to the outside world. If the set a VPN pipe it would avoid any of Deep Packet Inspection/Manipulation that has talked about.
Now, I don't believe the US has an embassy currently, but I sure some other freedom loving countries do and could easily provide this service.

This is exactly the use case that the critics still don't understand. There are dozens (hundreds?) of ways to use Twitter that don't involve tweeting. @cnn @AJEnglish @woot @wxseattle @HouseFloor , etc.
People read websites all the time w/o posting comments, no one says those people have abandoned the web. Just because Twitter allows for two-way conversions doesn't mean that is how you have to use it.
Whether this is permanent or not, (FAQ says it is, but hard to believe anything today) the data used to calculate my achievements appears to be valid. I think it is a funny, silly addition. Ole'
The best vacation I ever had was on Hawaii. The Highlights were the Keck Observatory and Kilauea volcano and lava fields.
When we visited the Keck we drove from sealevel to 4,200 m (14000ft). We got a free guided tour of the Keck observatory and the NASA telescope. I don't know if they still do that. It was an awe inspiring experience.
Another day we spent hiking around the world's most active volcano. Near the end of the day we hiked to where the lava was flowing into the ocean. This was the most terrifying and exciting thing I have ever done. Better than any rollercoaster
Holy Crap,
for once i thought I was being useful and explaining something I thought I understood. But apparently it was so obvious that 5 (Five !!) others beat me to the reply.
I have no idea where the name "War Driving" came from, though. "Wirelss Access Recon" perhaps?:-)
War Driving is an obvious reference to the practice of War Dialing, which was dialing every phone number in an area and recording the ones with a Modem attached.
The classic movie WarGames begins with Matthew Broderick's character arriving home from school and printing the new list of "targets" that his computer found while he was away (or was it while he was asleep?)
Imagine the representation we could get if each 30k people had there own Rep.. Heck, the town I live in would have its own seat in congress
We wouldn't have to create these convoluted districts that resemble a piles of snakes, just to create a minority district. (which is usually just 51% minority population, alot of good that does)
Additional benefit, with 8000 members of congress, the power/influence each member has would be diluted to a more reasonable amount

Am I the only one that is bothered when a URL contains index.html (or equivilent) at the end? Remove it and the link still works; so why include it?
Yes, from the discussion of this I don't see how this is a copyright case.
Works of the United States government are not entitled to domestic copyright protection under U.S. law, sometimes referred to as "noncopyright."

I am also a Sharepoint server admin and I would never recommend it to anyone.
As has been said already, it has a lot of really good ideas, all executed terribly. Search is so important, yet Sharepoint is very bad it. Yes you can drag and drop a whole hierarchy of files to add them to sharepoint, but woe to you if one of those files has a name that Sharepoint does not like http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joelo/archive/2007/06/27/file-name-length-size-and-invalid-character-restrictions-and-recommendations.aspx
I read the Wired article; the amazing thing is he did this with sample size of two.
Sylvia Earle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Earle should be a hero to all 3rd graders
Watch her TED Talk http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/467 , it's fascinating.
Arrrrgh NO! "10x Less" is the important phrase because it renders the sentence meaningless.
If something costs $1, then "10x Less" is $-9.
I am pretty sure they are not going to pay people to take these devices.
Arrrrgh "10x Less". This frustrates me that it made it into the title.
I had thought Access and Base would do this, but had never tried. Thanks for the confirmation.

When they can produce a Klein Bottle I will be impressed. Still not sure either will be be useful, but I will be impressed.
Wasn't it already said that CA was buying a UNIX licenses and they added linux into the contract just for completeness?
