You could do this with an active devie, or by taking a passive rfid tag and using gum to stick it to their reader, or near to it. You could also carry an active device that transmitts and the right frequency
There are two types of rfid tags, passive and active. Active tags can be read from quite a range. Passive tags, which is what the library range would mostly likely use, are simply an antenna that pics up a certain frequency which goes through the antenna and reports back its unique number to the reader. I completely agree with you view on the use of rfid. Infact my work uses networked rfid readers and electric door strikes to control access to buildings. there are so many good uses for rfid that we should stop fearing.

it depends the type of rfid, if it's active then they could fly withing 100 ft of your house and take inventory, if it's passive however, which is the type most retail stores would use since it's incredibly cheaper they would have to come within an inch of each item.
active - has batteries, broadcasts it's signal 24/7 for quite a range
passive - no batteries, draws power from the reader, doesnt broadcast 24/7, cant be read from far away.
there are so many positive uses for this, i agree it's one of the many keeping the honest people honest deals. Relax. I bet you could get a break on insurance for having all this info.
Your right. I posted this story here a while ago. I was unable to get at&t to help me unfortunatly, so i dropped them as a cell phone carrier. Before i dropped them however i was getting these calls quite regularly. What i did was write nasty emails to the company repeatadly quoting the tcpa. Good luck!
What do you need privacy from? Most companies that have large amounts of cube farms have rules in place against personal email/chatting/surfing for porn/etc so what do you need privacy from? If your not doing anything to hurt the company then you dont need privacy. Its as simple as that
is used because the printers are quiet and quick, however if not stored at optimal temperature they fade fast. Make two copies of it, staples one to the origional, if your realy paranoid pay with a check or credit card and copy your monthly statement. While this all seems like a lot of work at what point is your dollar thresh-hold where you would go through this work?
Well lets assume 100 keys, now where i work there are aproximatly 150 workgroups, and my workgroup has 16,000 work stations in it. I could easily reach the write limits in a year.
Dropping hard drives? While definatly a risk however it is minimal when you work in a profesional shop like mine.
This is what i was thinking, this is what we use in our workgroup of 16,000 pc's. no matter what form factor the pc is we can slide hd's in and out quite simply.
The disadvantage of flash is it has an estimated limit of one million writes that could be reached quite quickly doing backups. why not invest $20 in the hard drive caddy's?
I realize at this point no one will probly see this but lets look at this issue closer. Linux is a kernel, not a distro or a program. This is a main point. Windows also is a kernel. The amount of exploits on the Windows kernel vs the amount of exploits on the Linux kernel is where we can claim that linux is more secure. I use Linux everyday but i must say i have more faith in an experienced NT admin then i do on someone starting out with redhat or any other distro.
Rather then flame on about this that and everything it would be nice if we could all work twords a common good. Linux facilitates such an idea more then Windows which is why i use linux.
im sure telecom where i work has heard it all since we use over 40,000 pagers. i am not exactly sure about the number of cell phones because they arnt used quite like we use the pagers. A stupid story though im sure is a lot better then people who ruin them by being just flat out wreckless dropping them. I havent done anything horible to my pager or any of my work equipment but i have heard of guys dropping their nerd pack (1 pair of scisors, 1) punch down tool, 1) screw driver, 1) flashlight) in the toilet and fishing them out..

He wants a file system that works with all os's. How is samba offtopic? I am not aware of your work environment but all three data centers where i work are linked with 250 strands of gig fibre each connected to the other. 40 gigs doesnt take long to transfer at all.
Samba is a very viable option since it allows him to use any file system he choses.
I am a large fan of 3d Home Architect, 4.0 was nice but missing a few things, they switched engine companies in 5 and now have a better interface but it's more cad like now and even harder to get exact dimensions. I use it mostly to relay a design concept or general floor plan layout.
they key is it is powerd up by, not it is powerd on and actively transmitting.

You cant buy any type of pen in a store without atleast %50 markup. Get over it.

Linux saves money if deployed properly. This whole article is about proper deployment. What generalization is being made?
passive rfid tags have many many possitive uses as well. For every good bit of technology someone will always find a way to abuse it
get away with what? its not a miss-spelling.
i would much rather have the police stopping people who abuse there kids or catch someone who has committed a serious crime.
Most cops will relay the same message on, they have better things to do.

lets see 1 2 and not to mention sf. Also try replacing barcode with upc.

Im sorry, your rambling, whats your point?
You dont create a situation that facilitates the dropping of a drive.

yes, yes, and yes.
Samba IS a portable file system for his central storage. any other ideas i can help you find flaws in?

If he networks with dialup, sure. What if he networks with firewire or gig-e?
