  1. what about playing video? on HP Unveils Its Digital Media Receiver · · Score: 2, Insightful

I wouldn't even think about purchasing one of these unless it did the following:

    1. Play my videos (.mpg, .avi, etc...)
    2. Displayed winamp plugins on the TV while playing music files.

  2. idea stolen from google contest on GeoURL: We Know Where You Live, Work and Blog! · · Score: 5, Interesting

This looks similar to what was done in the google programming contest!

I wonder when google plans to implement this?
It's a really neat idea! And google's method sounds like it should work better than GeoURL's
(which requires people to submit their location info, rather than just swipe it off the web site.)

  3. Newsweek also has an article on it on Sklyarov, Bunner (DVD CCA) Hearings Thursday · · Score: 1

The August 20th issue of Newsweek has an article on Skylarov's case titled "Busted by the Copyright Cops" by Steven Levy, (towards the last page). It also mentions the Felton case and the DeCSS case, which I think is good in that it shows more about the problems of the DMCA than just focusing on Dmitry.

Take a look on my web site of the Dmitry protest in SF for some pics and video of CBS's coverage.

  5. Re:Dmitry a Poor Choice? on Slashback: DCS 1000, Dmitry, Lizardry · · Score: 1
As Dmitry is not American, shouldn't we point out the irony that a Russian, who comes from a country that is traditionaly known for supressing free speech, is being prosecuted in the United Stated of America, the supposed land of the free, for what is essentially expressing speech?

I'd say this does a pretty good job of showing how truly unconstitional the DMCA really is. Now all we need to do is get the word out that our rights are being taken away from us.

Check out my photos of the Free Dmitry protest in SF on 7/30!
