I'd love to think you're right. However, what I think really gives Apple such an edge now is that EVERYONE makes apps for the iPad. And most of them make no apps for Android. There is a sort of network effect in play with the iPad. What amazes me as primarily an Android user is that iPad users often have to buy separate, more expensive versions of the same app for iPad even if they already have said app on their iPhone. What a ripoff.
I understand that, but the issue is making it more difficult to do the cracking/downloading/installing than to buy legitimately. It has been discussed elsewhere in this thread, but it's just not worth trying to lock it down more for the people who can't/won't pay $1 for most apps. I just thought the license server DRM (vs. simply not allowing access to the APK files on the system) would go a long way toward improving the difficulty. Guess not.
That said, the author of TFA is an asshat.
My main problem with e16 is that all of the modern things like wifi and removable drive auto-mounting aren't really supported. I'm discovering (as I type this from i3) that some of these other spartan window managers don't have those things either. In my quest to try it anyway, I'm finding a number of utilities that are filling in OK, if not great, for the modern trimmings in Gnome and KDE. I'm fine with the command line, but I do find that some of those conveniences are worth a little extra bloat on modern machines.
Sounds like Enlightenment. I loved e16 and used it for a long time, but I found it didn't age well. The much-anticipated e17 feels like a step backward to me. Just installed awesome and am excited to try it! Thanks!
I recently moved to a rural area where VZW is the ONLY carrier providing service. Unfortunately I had to leave T-Mobile (which I loved) and come to the Dark Side.
I always thought it was kind of silly that they charge so much extra for the wireless hotspot service. I guess probably enough people were tethering without that service that they decided to just roll it into their data fees and make it non-optional. I cannot wait until another carrier, any carrier other than VZW, offers service here.
I have an account on Watson, but I have not really used it. We were going to attempt to port our code to the BlueGene architecture, but it's a royal pain to code for and it doesn't scale well for some applications. Ours runs much better on fewer, faster CPUs with lots of RAM rather than many, slower CPUs with little RAM.
I used to love those games when I was a teenager. I don't know if it's that I'm older and wiser, or the conversion to more realistic 3D instead of sprite people, but the video makes me feel a little ill now.
I'm not passing judgement on the game or people who might enjoy it. I might even actually enjoy it. I was expecting to be excited watching the video but I did not have the reaction I expected.
Eh, I've been here before, many times, though I appreciate your invitation to discuss. This comment:
"I am quite open to multiple possibilities (excluding the absence of a Creator, I have had personal experiences that preclude this possibility)"
tells me that there's nowhere else to go with this conversation, unless you're willing to critically examine those personal experiences in the light of what is known about human psychology and the fallibility of memory.
This AC comment immediately below explains the only scenario in line with the evidence:

At that point, the god is uninvolved after hitting the 'go' button, so really it's a moot point. That's not the god of the Abrahamic religions for sure.
It did have a purpose in the past, yes, the purpose is debated. Currently its purpose is to explode and kill you. Maybe it's one of god's ways of getting rid of people he doesn't like?
I'm betting you're intimiately familiar with the function of your prostate.
I'm not a doctor but I've got a PhD in biomedical engineering, and I'm married to a doctor.
This was just one of many examples where it makes sense if evolution is working alone, but not if an "intelligent designer" is making the decisions. There are many web sites full of smarter people than me explaining why intelligent design is most probably wrong. I suggest you have a look (but given my experience I doubt you will).
I used to think that way. It's a rationalization to appease the religious part of your brain. The fact is, you are still denying the evidence. If some higher power guided man's evolution, why do we have an appendix?
That page has been up for a while now, this is not a new announcement. Astroturfing much? Also, they still will not do it on some phones, citing carrier restrictions. Note how none of their supported devices are on Verizon.
Apparently one of the common tools used to 'cook' meth in home labs is a lava lamp. Just wait, within the next 1-2 years, we'll see something about the DEA cracking down on lava lamp sales.
I can just see it now, how it would go at the check-out register.
"Sir, I need you to show ID, sign this log, and you can't buy all four of those, you can only buy one at a time."
"WTF? My 60s party is going to be a total flop without ALL 4 of these."
"Sorry sir. I guess your party will be collateral damage from the War on Meth."
I was already annoyed about the pseudoephedrine restrictions. Did you know phenylephrine (the 'safe and effective' replacement) works no better than placebo when ingested orally? That's not the line the government sold the public about it. They said it was 'just as effective for most people'.
And now they're going after the guy who makes Polar Pure? The one positive of this is that I learned about the small business behind a product that probably saved me from the shits when I was a teenager backpacking in New Mexico. Poor guy.
1. Pre-rip DVD, sit down to watch it from NAS on TV, enjoy content
2. Watch DVD in legit player. Wait for ads for shows and movies I don't care about, anti-piracy messages, studio names and animations, etc, finally get to watch content.
Which option is more appealing to you? Every time I choose option 2 I am appalled anew at the crap they make you watch before you can actually watch the DVD. I don't own a Blu-Ray player, but I assume it's just as bad?
Android has been able to do that for a long time, both with stock browsers and third-party (like Firefox).

What happened with the license server mechanism they added? I thought that would work more or less.

I prefer Documents to Go, but I have no idea if that's supported on iOS. It even integrates with Google Docs.

Here's my setup, I love it: Image on treadmill product page

That is most definitely NOT what happened in the UK.
In fact it is still not listed, but as of yesterday I guess there are reports that it is working.
I am happy to hear it, however it was still not listed on their site as supported as of the time of my comment, no need to be snide.

Comcast business connection in the Twin Cities will get you all that except ipv6, and they're rolling that out.

I can't agree with your assessment of apple resale value. In my experience apple hardware holds its value much better than non-apple hardware.
Here are some options regarding DVDs:
1. Pre-rip DVD, sit down to watch it from NAS on TV, enjoy content
2. Watch DVD in legit player. Wait for ads for shows and movies I don't care about, anti-piracy messages, studio names and animations, etc, finally get to watch content.
