    CGI has been associated more with Perl than C/C++. Apache/mod_perl has corrected the original CGI separate process problem. a mod_perl CGI now runs 5~10 times faster than the CGI you metioned. But i agree Java/Servlet is a strong competitor to mod_perl/CGI...

    since i am fighting behind enemy's line here in Redmond, i can tell you that city of Medina where Billg's mega house is uses Linux system, and the major local newspaper in Bellevue/Redmond area uses Linux, too. Please cheer me up with all Linux news...

    OK, i take my words back. there is absolutely no matches if we talk about number of real world software applications. C/C++ has Apache, Linux, W2K, StarOffice, MS Office.... what does Java have ?

    there are enough evidence that the LOC of C/C++ and Java for a same application is almost same. besides, there are C/C++ apps that matches every Java apps in real world, i don't see your point why hiring a Java programmer would be cost saving ? did dot.com crash have something to do with Java/Jini/J++ ?

    i think you drew wrong analogy. it is not about 8,000 D-cell flashlight batteries to meet the electrical needs of my house, rather, it is about 8,000 lamps lighting up part of downtown Austin. we are talking about load balancing here.
