You should be slamming the ignorant electorate that keeps electing these politicians that only care about getting elected, getting rich, and pleasing the rich.
Doesn't that describe all of them? Besides, they're two sides of the same coin. One side gets elected and starts pushing some pet program, loses power letting the other guys in, and they start pushing the same program. You bet that's a wasted vote. The game's rigged.
Isn't the judge, who's now apparently target of homoerotic advances due to being so awesome, an absolvent of the same line of education you seem to despise so much?
What's that got to do with it? Some go to school to learn, many more go to get the certificate. The latter can often look like amnesiacs wrt their education history.
...hasn't learned the lessons that manufacturers and call center managers have learned?
They've forgotten more than we mere "help" have learned. Such as supply & demand, "You get what you pay for", & etc. They'll proudly throw $117 million at their CEOs, yet it would usher in the Apocalypse if they were to toss a few thou to those doing actual work. My last client couldn't ship my position off to Brazil fast enough, yet I was brought in to fix something their existing staff were afraid to touch for fear of breaking it. There's some serious reality distortion affecting management thes days.
... It's no joke that tech companies have a problem finding people regardless of salary.
What a load of crap. I don't believe you. If you offer enough, people will jump ship to get it. You're obviously cheaping out, so of course you can't draw them out. Try shaving a hundred Gs off your CEO's multi-million dollar salary and spread that around among your line troop positions. That'll fix your HR problem overnight.
It astonishes me that greedy, thick headed morons like you are what we have to work for.
I've been watching this story unfold at Techdirt.com. It's the most farcical slow motion train wreck I've seen in quite a while. It speaks volumes about USA's litigious culture, the Imaginary Property regime, and the miniscule amount of value added to an individual through managing to graduate from law school and be accepted to practice law. To think that these guys spent tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars for their educations, and this is what the idiots end up doing with them. Astonishing.
Kudos to the judge. I've seen a few posts from guys wishing they could have a womb implanted so they could have his children.
I don't really understand this. How does one become so particular about the desktop system?
I take it that you've never run across anyone who are convinced they need a week of intensive, hands-on training to transition from MS-Office to LibreOffice? I don't understand it either, but it's reality.
so this leaves me with only sensible window managers like XFCE and LXDE.
Fluxbox- do-it-yourself!
This's about the only useful post I've seen here in this thread (so far).
That said, it may not be easy. Doin' it yourself (to make it do it the way you want it done) ain't what people want these days. Sad. Fluxbox stays out of your way leaving you to just config apps, but who nowadays wants to diddle with ~/.Xresources and ~/.emacs and ~/.muttrc...? Oh, and it doesn't include "wizards" that magically config sound or WiFi or USB plugin mountpoints,... You may need to $google.
Who nowadays even runs Xconsole, or knows the differences between XTerm and urxvt and KTerm and Gnome-Terminal?
Meanwhile, I have three tabs open in urxvt, Xconsole constantly tells me what's happening, Gkrellm tells me thousands of things (including the weather), slrn watches Usenet news, irssi does IRC, mutt watches my IMAP mail (and Gkrellm pings me on newcoming),... On ALT-F2, I have Firefox, Gimp, Alsa Mixer, LibreOffice,...
And they upheld considering someone suspicious if they are a proven pedophile.
Please explain why you have a problem with that. Conversely, why should anyone NOT consider them deserving of increased suspicion?
Well, a pedophile isn't the same as a child molester to begin with.
That may (technically) be true (as in "just because you're a pedophile doesn't mean you've molested any children"). Still, that's a fairly fine line you're drawing. I'm not even a parent, but I think that's a shootin' thing (a tendency to *want* to molest children or even crave that sort of stuff; you need to die, or at least find a different hobby, soon).
[Then again, I'm listening to "Allman Bros., Live at Fillmore East", so maybe I'm one of those contemptable "Good Old Boys" or something.]
That's really more obfuscation than anything, though. I have little doubt that given the least-significant bytes, they could piece together the message eventually.
You have more faith in "the authoritays" than I do. A geek with five minutes to spare could do it, but if the target's not OBL, they'll fall asleep before they get half way there. For mortals, obfuscation is indistinguishable from encryption.
Dönitz never believed any of those who were screaming at him about the possibility that Enigma was breakable. Some people just refuse to learn anything more once they reach a certain age or position. The Darwin Effect, I think it's called.
Which is why I transpose everything into ROT-13, then do it once more, for good measure! Try and catch me coppers...
That would be a funny interchange to watch. "That file? It's doubly encrypted with ROT-13. Good luck!" "But I can read it, no problem." "Er, what? Maybe you just think you can."
Don't believe the !@#$ you see on the Internet, kids.
Never thought Immodium (Loperamide?!? Huh.) was a part of a well rounded security system.
People smuggle shiat into prisons all the time. You don't want it popping out at inopportune moments. It can be very embarassing. [No, I'm not speaking from experience.]
Don't forget, Homeland security doesn't just claim the right to search like this at the borders, but even if you just happen to live and/or travel within 100 miles of the border...
Papers citizen. Now! Achtung!!!
Not to mention, you now also consider yourselves "Cop of The World", and Seal Team Six recently proved they don't need a warrant to mete out capital punishment (not that I disapproved in any way in that case; that sucker was begging for it).
They just hear the most cases at the circuit level and generate the most appeals.
And for when the "the 9th circuit is overturned more times than any other" talking point comes up: well duh, they hear more cases than any other circuit too.
The TECS hit indicated that Cotterman was a sex offender--he had a 1992 conviction for two counts of use of a minor in sexual conduct, two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct upon a child, and three counts of child molestation
Thank you. I didn't bother to read TFA (this is/., after all:-). Great.sig too. Rock on!
So, just a momentary outbreak of common sense? Pity. And here I was thinking, "Woohoo! They're not completely insane after all! Yay!" It'll be interesting to watch this show unfold (I doubt this is the end of it). It's kind of cool to see you can still jump-start that three hundred year old piece of parchment. Bon chance!:-)

What's wrong with "tangential" is that its meaning is orthogonal to "orthogonal".
Among mathematicians, I'd agree. However, to the average Joe (like me):
tangential
adj 1: of superficial relevance if any;
orthogonal
adj 1: not pertinent to the matter under consideration; "an
issue extraneous to the debate";
those look pretty damned similar.

I have no serious idea, but I think that the lack of religion today ...
So, you're demonstrably an idiot. Understood. Carry on.

$kidsthesedays.
There are still a ton of unanswered questions in the standard model.
Sure? Higgs was supposed to be the end of the story (not that I ever believed that. fneh).
TFA is mainstream butt-hurt-ness ...
That sums it up pretty well. I also think I'd rather be living on another planet if this is the sort of thing we should expect here.
Just sayin'.

In any case, that's a shitty idea. With all the crap they deploy at the borders ...
You have a way with words, I've gotta say. "You can have my shitty cards. Here!" "Er, no thanks."
You're not getting my passphrase. :-|
Never underestimate the bandwidth of a dude with a belly full of micro sd cards?
Download.
Please stop. No please, stop! You guys are killing me.
Never underestimate the bandwidth of a dude with a belly full of micro sd cards?
How about "that's a shitload of storage?"
Guffaw! A bazillion golf claps to you. I wonder what the access time is in that situation. What is the speed of stool?

Department of Redundancy Department, Batman?
Maybe SC will leave this one be.
why would they?
That's the funniest (and possibly saddest) joke I've seen in some time. We should start a revolution. :-(
This is false.
The TECS hit indicated that Cotterman was a sex offender--he had a 1992 conviction for two counts of use of a minor in sexual conduct, two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct upon a child, and three counts of child molestation

True, SCOTUS will never let this stand.

It's pretty similar to the (on the whole practically hagiographic) coverage that Dubai gets.
That has to be the silliest word I've seen since "orthogonal" (come on; what's wrong with "tangential", ffs?).
holy + writing. Pretentious much? :-P
I also resent your dissing Dubai. It's one of the few shining lights in the Arab world. I wish all of Islam was as happy as Dubai.
