Maybe Apple will make one, claim they are innovators, patent it and sue everyone using more than 1 screen.:P
Seriously, though. I don't see this going anywhere if it isn't as portable as regular laptops can be now. But the first ones were not that portable, either and things seem to go way faster, so if there really is a market for it, who knows.
If you want to have big big big privacy, then there's no use in joining any kind of social network. The whole idea is to share information with others. Now, you can lock down showing private information (or don't even need to fill in that information), so what's the problem? If you want most control of your privacy, I don't see why you would want to join a social network. As far as I can see it's "fine" as it is: you can share the information with the people you want. The only bad thing is when EULA's or whatever say you give the owner of network a license to do with your stuff as they see fit (usually for advertising). But if they didn't do that, it'd be a quick end. That's the idea: you give them your stuff, they give you their stuff.
I'm not sure what you're getting at. The Wii U will support both the new controller and Wii remote at the same time, if that's what you mean. One example during the presentation was golf, where the controller is on the floor and you can see the ball on that screen, while you swing your remote to hit that ball, which then flies visibly on the TV. Is that the kind of thing you meant?
I really don't care if the thing can do DVD or Blu-ray or not, I would get it for gaming. However, why would they add 40 buttons to the Wii U controller if it has a touch screen?:)
Also, I noticed today that Chrome was asking to access kwallet which I thought was pretty good. So there is some integration already, as well, without the use of addons.
Actually, Skype on Linux works fine for me. I have it running in the background (hide all windows using kwin rules) and then I have the kopete skype plugin so I get my gtalkers, other jabberers and skypers all in one chat window. Oh and voice and such works as well. No crashes no weird ways of starting it. It's weird to say, but "it just works" over here (opensuse 11.4 with same results on 11.1-11.3).
I do know it's not like that on all distros and there's plenty to be desired, but to say it's crap because it doesn't work as expected on your distro is a bit too much.
I know they don't do well over there, never have. However, this Dutch news article:
http://www.nu.nl/internet/2518951/nokia-ziet-marktaandeel-verder-krimpen.html
says Nokia's market share is now down to 25%, the lowest since 1997. 30.6% a year ago.
Symbian? 27.4% and in 2010 that was 44.2%. Well, with Windows Phone or whatever it's called, everything will improve. MS last year: 6.8% and now 3.6%.
I so loved my Nokias ever since my first one in 1999, never bought any other after that. Except now, I have my Android phone.
Actually, I only needed IE every now and then before. I have (insanely enough) 3 virtualbox environments: XP+IE7, XP+IE8 and WIN7+IE8 which will become IE9. However, as my job has changed from web developing to quality assurance, I start up VirtualBox rarely anymore. Don't need MS Office (document distribution within our company is usually PDF and I personally use ODF and not getting complaints as I don't have to deal with clients). So for me it's fine at this point. And I have the Skype 2.2 RPM put aside safely, but if MS changes stuff too much (or stops supporting Linux at all), that RPM is going to stop working at some point.
My next machine (please loud obnoxious huge midi tower desktop machine, STOP WORKING!) will be a 15.6" laptop which I will use as the secondary screen, I guess, using my 22" inch monitor as the primary screen. But it looks like having to run virtualbox just for skype at some point if the proverbial shit hits the fan.
But it is a bit of a story for exactly the reason I put there. How are the few Linux users going to interact with "99.99%" of the Skypers out there that use Windows if Microsoft does decide to drop Linux/Mac support? It's lovely that there are "plenty" of applications that run on Linux and use SIP, but that doesn't help me get into touch with all those Skype users.
Another concern would be the Skype API. Right now, I have Skype running but I hide everything (thank you KDE, for making this possible). Kopete has a plugin that can (if I got that right) 'intercept' the Skype chat windows. The windows still exist, I just don't see them thanks to kwin and such. Also, Kopete lets me use Skype's audio (and video I believe, but never use it) chats. So, I use a jabber server, my google talk and skype all from Kopete. I'm betting that if they do put some effort in a Linux client, they won't care about that API and I'll end up really having to use 2 programs again. Which with Skype for linux is a pain as it doesn't have tabbed chat windows. >_
Well, let's see what happens over the next few months. Hasn't taken MS very long to take the already failing Nokia to a new low point, see how fast this will go with Skype (for Linux).
I work from home, in another country, at 1500 kilometers distance from my colleagues. Sure, I could TRY to convince the company to switch to a completely different application that is incompatible with skype, just because I want to use Linux. Or ask my relatives who also live that far away, to do that. But somehow I don't see it happening...
Seems voddler is in violation of the GPL, using ffmpeg and xbmc code, but not providing sources. (according to a quick wikipedia lookup, so who knows how up to date that information is).
Ah, I didn't know that one. Might be worth looking at, thanks. Too bad it doesn't come with a Linux client (wonder if it'll be fine in virtualbox) or access through consoles like Netflix introduced (last year I think?).
You sure about that? I'm trying a preview and it says:
"We have detected that you are not located within the US. Due to licensing restrictions Amazon Instant Video customers must be located in the United States when viewing videos online. (What’s This?)"
So, not sure how that works in the UK then, but it won't over here.:/
but this has the ability to really change the streaming market!
...in the USA (and perhaps Canada?) There still isn't anything close to Netflix or this new Amazon service in Europe. Or at least not that I know of. There wasn't anything like it in Holland a few years back and there isn't now over here in Finland.:/
I've always been a big Nokia fan. I'm currently using my 6th or 7th one since 1999. Stirdy, trustworthy devices (well, except for one clam type phone, but could be blamed on my abuse of it). The one I have now (E51) is the 'smartest' phone I have, but it will also be my final Nokia. Would have loved to see them jump to Android, but they chose this. No, I can't put this down with facts or figures, it's just a feeling: it will not help Nokia remain the biggest phone manufacturer and I believe their market share will decline more and more. Too little, too late, this move. Such a shame, as the N8 (Symbian) is such a gorgeous device (but seriously, no Ogg support?) and I really love many of their phone designs. From fun to casual to business. Thanks for 12 years of fun, Nokia, but this is one customer less.:(
The summary is misleading. This only refers to incomplete words. If you type "bitt" or "rapidsh" you won't get the (desired?) results, but if you type "bittorrent" or "rapidshare" you will get the results you expect.
Apart from that, it's quite childish. Also "pirate" gives me results leading to The Pirate Bay, for example.
Now I am getting mp3 albums from amazon for $5-$7 each
Yes, but not everyone is in the US or another amazon-mp3-enabled country. Spotify sells albums for about 9-10 euros. That's around 13 USD. I'm not saying it's a bad price, but just to compare.
Video: Most movies can be streamed legally for $1-$3, and that's if they're not already available through netflix $8/mo unlimited streaming plan.
Please show me where I can do that from here (Finland), I might even boot my never-used XP for that (Linux user talking). No netflix-like service available for me, either, which really sucks as I have a Wii which would be supported.:(
I've been living in Finland for a few years now and over here we can recycle separately: plastic bottles, glass bottles, different types of other glass, different types of metal, textiles and plastic bags even. And that's just what you can take to our local shopping centre. At home I can take away separately my bio-trash, paper, cardboard and 'other'. It's a bit more work than just dumping it all together, but I'm willing to do that if the facilities are available.
Which student's papers? It seems unfair to pick on one of them. Did you mean students' papers?
Please mod this up, come on! :)))

So wikipedia... there isn't an app for that?
Eh, at bugs.kde.org you can simply choose the OS you're running KDE on... :/
Pssst, he said "Approved", not "Approval". ;)
