But practically speaking, booting off a CD image in it's own partition into an operating system that is known to be more resistant to malware is pretty secure. It's is more secure than how people handle the rest of their lives (their front door locks, their car, handling their credit card receipts, etc.).
Even better if you are a little technical, set up a "frugal" boot partition. This will unpack and boot a CD image much faster than booting from CD and when you power down it doesn't keep any state. No viruses survive the reboot.

My teachers and the administration were frustrated and angry with me because I ignored their rules, but at the end of the day I knew the material. Once I had a teacher that just couldn't stand things not being done their way and threatened to fail me for poor attendance. I walked out of the classroom, went straight to the principal and demanded to take the final right then. It was November, so we weren't even half way through the school year. After much arguing I was allowed to take the final and the Regents exam in December, which I aced. I didn't have to go to that class anymore for the rest of the year.
I've done very well, I've started several Internet companies and sold some of them. I own my own business now. I credit my success to all the free time I had to really learn while my peers were filling out dittos in class.
I feel very sorry for this next generation who are growing up prisoners in their schools and in their homes. Nobody is allowed to go out unattended anymore. Kids are taught to blindly follow stupid "zero tolerance" rules for the sake of following authority.We are training sheep. Where will our next generation of thinkers and leaders come from?
Just the idea that the school and police would have made me carry a GPS tracker like a criminal is infuriating me even now. I would have made it my mission in life to hack that thing to report me located in the Principal's bedroom whenever he's not at home.

Others decide the goal is not worthwhile and ignores it or calls out the original poster for having selfish reasons for the call to action ("We're not your personal army").
To say there are "members" and a "hierarchy" or even an actual group called "Anonymous" in any normal sense of the word reveals a lack of understanding of the phenomena.
What good would inquiries do? My ISP, like most big corporations these days, has no idea what they are going to be doing next quarter. They will promise anything and renege on those promises at the drop of a hat as the middle managers who made the promises roll in and out of the company. Part of my disaster planning is the assumption that all of my vendors are lying to me.

Great. Now how about higher speeds for my LAN? 1 gigabit is too slow for what I need (I know it's fine for most) and 10 gigabit is cost prohibitive. It's cheaper to set up a LAN using Infiniband than 10 gigabit Ethernet.

The only chance of actually pulling off something like that would be if you actually got your hands on 1,600 real leaked documents and carefully wove a thread of fake edits throughout it. Oh, and hope nobody ELSE can get the same leak of 1,600 documents that contradict yours.
Engineers understand facts. Facts get in the way of political and corporate goals. Here in the USA where we worship at the altar of profits it is in the best interests of the powers-that-be to marginalize those pesky engineers, facts, and science.
