I'm really looking forward to when i can call something old hat by saying "That's so Facebook!"
Just start saying, "Go back to Facebook, grampa!" Say it anywhere everywhere at the slightest provocation, even if it doesn't apply. Especially if it doesn't apply. Post "Go back to Facebook, grampa!" memes on Pinterest, Snapchat, and Instagram. We'll start a trend and slowly sway the masses into abandoning Facebook.
Wow! Where do I move to? Considering that it doesn't matter where I work, I could earn my local salary, live on like 500 a month and rack up the dough for early retirement!
Exactly, that's the long term plan for my wife and I; sell our house, cars, and all our stuff and retire to Cambodia or Laos with a pile o' money.
You can live fairly well in Cambodia, Vietnam, or Laos on $500 to $700 a month. With an income of $1,200 a month you can live a very good, very comfortable life. Above $2,000 a month you could live like a king in a gorgeous villa.
World-class medical care is readily available in Vietnam and Thailand at a fraction of the cost of what it is in the US. A $10,000 medical procedure in the US costs about $1,000 to $2,000 in Vietnam, maybe a little more depending on what it is. Ask me how I know.
$1.00 for a really good lunch compared to our $10.00? yeah their cost of living is a LOT lower.
Bingo. I can take my whole extended family (about 8 of us) out for a very nice 5-course dinner for about $50 or so. A tuk-tuk to take us back home across the city is ~$5. Rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in the heart of the city is about $300 a month. Phone and internet service costs about $30 a month.
Yep, reselling phones is super common in SE Asia. Tons and tons of little stores and kiosks everywhere selling refurbished phones alongside the new ones. I've bought several there and never had a problem. Practically every single street in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam has these resellers, and of course they also sell the SIMs and SD cards as well.
If you're anywhere within 100 miles of a US border, the constitution doesn't apply, and any US customs agent can do anything they want to you, at any time, for whatever reason. If you're still in the US, you should move inland > 100 miles, so at least whatever remains of the constitution still applies to you under specific conditions.
Lol, like that would stop them.
That 'zone' will be expanded to whatever they want when they want, if they even bother to formally expand it.
I don't have either Facebook or Twitter. I guess that means I'm automatically "suspicious".
The smart thing to do now is to create accounts on Facebook and Twitter and fill them with innocuous crap like cat pictures, chili recipes, and other banal stuff.
No pics of kids or babies (because that means you're a pedophile!) No pics of city skylines (because that means you're a terrorist scoping out targets!) No "We support our troops!" stuff (because that means you're a militarist whacko!) No pics of bridges, buildings, or vehicles (because that means you're a terrorist scoping out targets!) No pics of cute gals (because that means you're a stalker!) No political content, period. (We all know where this leads) No pics of you (because they have all the pics of you that they need already) No pics of your garden (because that means you're a prepper!)
So yeah, kittens and doggies and grandma's favorite pot roast recipe are the only safe things to post.
If Cox Communications is responsible for copyright infringements carried out by its subscribers, then whoever built the roads in my town is responsible for crimes carried out by criminals who used those roads.
I use Linux Mint exclusively on my laptop, soon to be on all of my PCs.
For 90% of home users almost any Linux distro will serve them just fine. If they just need email, browsing, and online shopping, Linux will do everything they want.
For professional shops it's a bit different since there are lots of applications that will never be ported to Linux, but as more and more stuff moves to the web I expect that will change over time. Graphics-heavy stuff will probably stay as local desktop programs for a long time, but I'd bet that 80% of the stuff that requires a desktop application will eventually become available in some form on the web. Some stuff, probably never (AutoCad, video and sound editing apps, etc).
Some people are convinced that all sexual assault/rape allegations are false, unless there is a video and a signed confession.
Yes, and some people are convinced that all sexual assault/rape allegations are true, unless there is unassailable evidence to the contrary.
See the "rape victims have the right to be believed" idea for this whole debacle. For example, the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case, the Rolling Stone rape article ("A Rape on Campus"), the Scottsboro Boys, the Tawana Brawley rape allegations, etc. All of these sensational cases turned out to be 100% bullshit. Those "victims" turned out to be perpetrators, but their stories were believed without any critical examination.
NO ONE has the "right to be believed" about anything without some actual evidence supporting their claim.
Yes, rape happens, there are plenty of examples of it that are absolutely genuine. BUT, there are false rape reports too, and taking the stance that "rape victims have the right to be believed" is setting the scene for a travesty of justice.
You know what? I don't want a god damned app for everything I do on my smartphone. I don't want to have to download and take up gigs of space on my phone when you can just deliver a HTML5 web page that's going to effectively do everything some annoying app would have done.
^^^^^^^^^ THIS, 100%.
Most apps are little more than a shitty wrapper to a web service that would work far better through a propely designed HTML page, but noooooooo, everything has to be an app. Thanks but no thanks.
"You've heard of Verizon's Go90 only because Verizon keeps talking about it when people ask why it spent $10 billion on AOL and Yahoo; you have completely forgotten about Comcast's Watchable."
Watchable? Go90? Nope, never heard of either of them, to be honest.
Two more bullshit services that sank like a stone without so much as a ripple.
Free speech doesn't require other people to listen to you. If he doesn't want to personally answer yet another random guy messaging him the same points and the same arguments about 1000 others already did, well too bad.
Ahhh, this is always the refrain of the authoritarian who is terrified of opposing views. Shives doesn't even allow commenting on most of his videos and he turns down every invitation to debate anyone who doesn't already share his whackadoodle views. He has openly stated that he would shut down other people's channels if he could, just because he doesn't like them. Not becuase they violate any rule or guideline, but just because he doesn't like what they say. Again, what a champion of free speech and discourse, eh?

She has delivered all her Kickstarter material and a number of bonus videos
Give me a break, she absolutely has NOT delivered anywhere near the quantity of videos she said she would. A lot of the footage in the videos she has produced is stolen without attribution from other youtubers.
I generally find much of what you say to be reasonable, but on this one you're way off base. It's not black-and-white by any means, but if you think Sarkesian is on the up-and-up then I really don't know what else to say.
If you bother to check, it's all been debunked repeatedly.
Thanks, but I know enough about Quinn, Shives, and Sarkesian to make an informed judgement. I've watched enough of their videos to know everything I need to know about them. Far from "debunking" the claims, I found them to be mostly accurate and well supported.
Steve Shives, for example, will block you on Twitter just for messaging him and saying you liked his video but disagree with one of his points. That's all it takes. (Ask me how I know.) What a champion of free speech and discourse, eh? He won't debate anyone who disagrees with him, period, because he knows he'd be trounced in a fair discussion.
Sarkesian is a con artist who rakes in money and produces almost none of what she promises to make. There is ample evidence of this, a vast amount actually, and it's not hard to find.
Quinn is a liar and a cheater who doubled down on her sleazy behavior by constructing a huge web of lies and deceit in order to smear people and conceal her actions. Her reputation as an untrustworthy person is well deserved.
As for Nyberg, unless every single thing that's been reported on her has been fabricated, then I'll consider my opinion justified.
Ask yourself if you think there's any chance whatsoever that you could be wrong about any of these people, especially Nyberg.

How much is to have nice girl love you long time? Fucky sucky?
I don't know what they would charge a toad like you. Probably a lot.
On the other hand we could always ask your mom and get a price quote direct from the horse's mouth, so to speak.
"There was a time when Microsoft was seen as the enemy of Linux and Apple communities."
Lol, "there was a time". And that "time" is "now".
Look at mein schnitzel.
Yah, dat iss very nice schnitzel, mein liebenfrauten-schlempenfurher!

Doesn't that count on international airports as well and cover pretty much everyone in a built up area?
Yes.
About 85% of the US lives within 100 miles of a border. Convenient for them, isn't it?

That would assume I have a Facebook or Twitter account, which I do not.

Words like "neocon", "fascist", "SJW", and "neo-liberal" all have very little meaning
Well, they have a meaning but it's often too broad to be used correctly in a general context.
"Neocon" has a fairly specific meaning but "fascist", "SJW", and "neo-liberal" often mean very different things to different people.
You know what? I don't want a god damned app for everything I do on my smartphone. I don't want to have to download and take up gigs of space on my phone when you can just deliver a HTML5 web page that's going to effectively do everything some annoying app would have done.

You just said Quinn doesn't do videos, then literally a paragraph later, you link to videos Quinn has made.
To be fair, I think what he linked to was a video by Anita Sarkesian.

AmiMoji please stop using slashdot. You truly are a piece of shit.
I strenuously disagree with him on this topic but he has the right to offer his opinion, no matter how misguided it is.

What has Phil Mason ever done to Sarkeesian, except call her out for her dishonesty?

"The DAO was a digital decentralized autonomous organization and a form of investor-directed venture capital fund.
The DAO was crowdfunded via a token sale in May 2016. It set the record for the largest crowdfunding campaign in history.
In June 2016, hackers exploited a vulnerability in the DAO code to enable them to siphon off one third of The DAO's funds to a subsidiary account."
Wow, what an awesome track record of security, lol. Thanks, but I'll pass.
Some company wants to raise money to make a Sci-Fi show that can only be purchased via some BitCoin knockoff.
What are we supposed to buy the bitcoin knockoffs with...ears of corn?
If it's money, why not just use....money? Or would that not be buzz-wordy enough?
It appears as though this is some type of scam, but it's not exactly clear how it's supposed to pay off for them.
See, there's the problem...scams are supposed to be easily accessible and sound plausible to the end user, I mean, "mark".
^^^^^^^ Yeah, what jjeffries said.
And don't forget to leverage existing core-competencies for exigent customer-facing scenarios.
