If you can tell me how Linux is better for that I will give you a medal.
Linux is better because it's webscale and can fight off systemD infections since it uses MongoDB to reprioritize client engagement in customer-facing paradigms.
I'm sorry they're shutting down. At least they're giving their users some notice, which is good.
I suspect there's a niche market in encrypted storage online that would be marketed as (supposedly) "NSA proof", if such a thing is even possible. I suspect that the current reach of the NSA is for all intents and purposes unlimited in the US. I doubt there's much they couldn't get into if they wanted to.
I mean, we know that Wall Street has been thoroughly and utterly penetrated and is basically the plaything of corporations and financial houses.Add in the activity by blackhats ripping off whatever they can from the major brokerage houses and Wall Street is a joke in terms of any fairness.
Given that, is it so far-fetched to surmise that the NSA has managed to get it's taps into virtually every communication medium we use? (Especially after the recent revelations about AT&T being in cahoots with the NSA.) At this point I'd be more surprised if they didn't have everything tapped.
Not really. An F15 Eagle will dust any VTOL fighter ever made.
Yep. The F15 is still arguably the greatest airborne weapons platform ever built. Rugged and dependable, and no F15 has ever lost a dogfight.
Between the F15 and the A10, 90% of everything that needs to be done from the air can be done. Bombing, strafing, air support, troop protection, combat air patrol, tank-busting, precision-guided munitions, surgical strikes...those two planes cover the spectrum in most typical flight roles.
Firefox has gone from a lean, mean, browsing machine to a doughnut-gobbling couch potato who gets winded walking to the refrigerator.
It's sad to see it slowly becoming more and more bloated, dis-functional. The UI has become more frustrating too. At least the memory-eating function is still working. At ~3.5G of memory used it slows down, refuses to load some images, and generally becomes very clunky and laggy to use.
Some teachers unions have negotiated that a first offence is not fireable. There are 100s of teachers in the LA school district who are on the payroll but are not allowed to teach. Some for drug crimes, some for sex crimes.
That sounds like the perfect job for me...how do I get in on this lucrative scheme, err, I mean "fascinating career path"?
Heh...when I was growing up *cough* if someone had told me that in the future, every phone would have a super hi-res camera built in to it, we would have figured you were crazy. And if you told us it would also be a 1280x768, 30fps video camera too, we would have known for sure that you were crazy.:)
I haven't used Java on anything device in years. I haven't installed it on the last 5 computers I've owned (about 10 years worth of computing hardware) and have no intention to do so, ever. Java has no place on any of my hardware and never will.
Once IPV6 is widely adopted, the idea of having any meaningful data associated with an IP address is DEAD.
The bad guys will have a nearly limitless pool of IPs to spoof and choose from, and they'll just discard them every few seconds or minutes and a get a new batch to use. That's because IPV6 has a mind-bogglingly immense address space. How much? Well....
Let's assume every single one of the 100 billion stars in the galaxy is inhabited, and each star has a population of 10 trillion humans in orbit around it, and each human has 1 billion devices that need IP addresses.
In that case, only 1/340,282nd of the possible 128-bit IPv6 addresses would need to be assigned.
Put another way, IPv6 would (will) provide roughly 5,000 assignable IP addresses for every square micrometer of the Earth's surface.
Good luck banning that suspect IP...it will have been used for a few seconds and then "thrown away", never to be used by the spammer again.
Seriously? Do you know how many distros are out there? It is not one that I have needed to use until now because frankly I don't have the patience to wade through each one once I had found one that worked well enough for me.
Exactly, and thank you for pointing this out Gadget Guy. Why in the world should I know about some specialized pocket distro that barely anyone else has heard of?
The fact is that I have a life, a wife, a job, a home, and I simply don't have time to suck slashdot's dick all day long, slobbering over every article like it was handed down from on high.

"Predictive judgment" is a somewhat technical-sounding name for "giving it our best guess based on all kinds of stuff we pretend to understand".
Does it work? Absolutely- 30% of the time it works every time!
They'd almost be better off just rolling some dice and making decisions based on the score.

Ceausescu would blush with envy at what the NSA is capable of (and apparently doing).

Reality TV star Donald Trump advising us on space exploration...who could possibly object to that?
Isn't all C++ underhanded?
My C++ programmer buddies swear that the language was designed by a team of masochists who had a poor sense of humor and anger management issues.

I don't want a smart phone, but I'd sure like a small, rugged reasonably high quality "dumb" phone.
There's no need to secure mongoDB because it's webscale. That means it's invulnerable to hackers and bad programming.
"She sold me meth" would likely be a career killer too.
Thanks but no thanks, Microsoft.
I'll stick with Win 7 until my PC dies, and after that I'll probably switch to Linux.
Win 7 works fine for me, and Win 8 and Win 10 do not appear to offer me ANYTHING useful whatsoever.
Obligatory "I'm shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU!"
Both Russia and the Philippines have a booming business in catering for high quality medical care at lower prices.
Yep, so do Mexico and India and Vietnam. All offer a world-class level of care at about 1/10th the cost of similar car in the US.
Corruption in South America? Say it ain't so!
I could hardly believe it myself!
Paying bribes is one of the only ways SAP is likely to get their foot in the door. After that the money all flows the other way.

I see nothing that could possibly go wrong with this brilliant plan.
Typical corporate move- fire anyone who says anything about anything without written permission from God himself.

“We think virtually every company will incorporate fitness trackers into their corporate wellness programs,” Fitbit CFO Bill Zerella said
Yeah, well I think virtually everyone is going to buy my new, improved Pet Rock.
Seriously, I wouldn't work for a company that required or even suggested that I wear their FitBit Corporate Monitoring Device.
