2: Apple should get into high gear, buy back Bill Gates' stock, and finally release OSX to work on the x86 platform! This alone will boost the switchover to MAC. I have been a Windows user for a good part of my life because there really is NO other OS out there compatible on x86 that can compete with Windows by offering the same amount of software support and ease of use. With Mac OSX, this reality is almost there. You know that Gates bought shares in Apple just to make sure that he has the right to veto OSX's release on the X86 platform.

MY COPY OF MAC OSX DOES NOT WORK ON MY X86/AMD MOTHERBOARD. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP SO I CAN START USING MAC OSX. MAKE OSX COMPATIBLE WITH X86 PLATFORMS SO THAT APPLE CAN FINALLY GRAB BETTER MARKET SHARE WITH THE EXISTING HARDWARE. IF YOU CONTINUE TO IGNORE THE X86 COMMUNITY, THEN BY ALL MEANS, APPLE WILL FINALLY BE DOOMED YET AGAIN.

APPLE PLEASE BUYBACK ALL OF BILL GATES' SHARES IN APPLE AND RELEASE OSX TO THE X86 PLATFORM. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. I BET YOU CAN GET 20-25% MARKET SHARE WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF RELEASING OSX FOR X86 PLATFORMS.

  5. That is perfectly fine. on Report: Broadband Too Expensive For Many · · Score: 1

Dialup for most people who can get it for approximately $10/month is perfectly fine for most customers needs. The ones who need broadband are power users who need it for web designing, gaming, Voice over IP services and power buying/selling on ebay. I consider that broadband is currently underpriced for the type of speeds that are offered.

If people are currently complaining that Broadband is too costly, so be it. It is costly to provide such services as an average cost per port of transport is priced at $3000+ or $50/month for 5 years. Once providers have paid off their system, it will only then be plausible to make some money back. However, 95% of the providers can not survive at the currently overcharged pricing of current hardware. Hence, why we have had major broadband bankruptcies across North America.

Only a small percentage of users need broadband. And that percentage should be paying premiums for the extra speeds. Now before you go flaming about this, what "GIVES" the public right to pay dialup pricing for a service that is 20 times faster should the price fall? Why not get a T1 to your house and pay the appropriate pricing of the service (ranging from $250 to $2500 depending on area) instead.

The services rendered to most people on broadband are sketchy and in most cases, are problematic. The cause of these problematic cases are due to several factors of poorly constructed networks, lower wages, and low pricing. Broadband technologies can be just as effective as T1+ services, however, the telcos just want to ensure that these services never exceed the performance of their dedicated services. Otherwise, their dedicated services will never retain the value and cost of what they are worth these days. Therefore, why broadband service has been more of a patchup type of service with constant failures.

We offer dedicated SDSL service via our company. Since we have offered this private service (not via our telco), we have never seen the service fail once. We use the simplest provisioning of the service and through simplicity, we can offer a T1 grade service, without the T1 pricing. Yes our pricing is much higher (business services only) however, we can offer a certain level of guarantee over our SDSL services that no other provider will care to offer.

  10. SLA information: The REAL Rules you need 2 know on How to Test Your T1? · · Score: 1

BTW, if you plan on asking for an SLA you need to ask for it in writing in this manner to protect your ass. Otherwise, you will never get proper SLA refunds.

    - All SLA tests will be conducted from the CPE Point of Entry to the Provider and the Border Router to the CPE equipment.
    - The average Latency difference between Provider and Customer will be calculated in this manner (CPE Ping to destination - Provider Ping to destination)
    - Should there be an average latency over the SLA agreement, the customer will get a pro rated refund for the duration of the issue until the situation is cleared.
    - This SLA agreement is ONLY within the Provider's Network. Sites outside the provider's network will be calculated to the Provider's Border router.
    - Should the Return Paths be available (via remote end doing a traceroute back to the CPE) then the Point of Entry into the Provider's network will also be tested. This is to be able to cover the FULL extent of the path.

We have had many issues described above however with Worldcom, they pulled a Homer and said that their SLA server (which averages their whole network to one location with prioritized packets for the SLA server) were not showing any latency issues and therefore will issue credits.

If an ISP is saying to get their SLA, ask them that you would like to have the above clause put it. I will guarantee you 90% of them will say sorry we will not. Therefore, these providers with current SLAs are just making the extra buck on a cheap SLA they have which will NOT be advantageous for your extra spent dollar.

Trust me on this, I have tried to get the higher priced SLA providers to add my clause in and they all refused. SLAs are worthless unless there is another major catastrophe that takes out half the US Internet market.
