See, what I find interesting is that I'm sure the poster _also_ knows the sole availability of a media player is a highly unlikely influence when choosing an OS but for some reason I have noticed that it is trendy (necessary?) to plug a pro-Linux/OSS comment somewhere in a/. article summary even if it is far fetched as this one.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not too hapy with Microsoft actions sometimes either and as a developer, I use Linux/OSS whenever I see it fit because of its technical and non-technical values but can we try not throw random irrelevant comments whenever a new piece of news is shared? I'm sure we can come up with a better way of letting people know of alternatives without appearing as brainless zealots.
"# Mac OS X has been leading secret double life. Every Mac project build for Intel and PowerPC and Intel. Every release of Mac OS X has been built for both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. For the last 5 years. Mac OS X is cross-platform by design. Apple's demo is on an Intel-based system. Jobs shows all Mac OS X Tiger features are already compatible with Intel-based processors. What does that mean? In the future, will I be able to downlo^H^H^H^H^Hpurchase a copy of Tiger and run it on my pc directly? If so, Microsoft is about to take a big dent.
As the article suggest, Google could use this if they ever decide to go ahead and launch an instant messanger. Imagine being able to chat with anyone in the world while google does the translation in real time for you. What are the implications of this.
As an example, in one hand my family back in Peru, who don't speak english, would be able to chat with my current gf who doesn't speak much spanish but still likes chatting with them. In the other hand, this would slow both parties' motivation of learning a new language (maybe good in my case;) ).
..but it was the first company to implement all that in a simple, elegant yet powerful fashion, so much that the other companies that tried all those tools before now are re-thinking their implementation and immitating google... wait wait..hmmm yah that's right.
What i would like to know is when will the madness (good madness? bad madness?) end!! How long can they hold this for. These guys are releasing new services/products/cool tools almost weekly!. Good stuff. I'm not complaining...
Is it just me or does this image of the model look like the Propultion Stage is being held together by duct tape? I mean, I know duct tape can achieve some unbelievable things but this might be pushing it just a bit no?
Because the Control Panel is tightly integrated into the OS and thus the icon cannot and MUST NOT be changed. You cannot change the icon colours without changing the way the calc.exe does addition, if you change calc.exe, Windows Explorer will change to a maroon colour which then will result in kernel32.dll not being found which is needed by notepad.exe and thus it will not start-up and if notepad doesn't start, Internet Explorer will need to work "Offline" and we know what happens when Internet Explorer is "Offline", you cannot login to MSN Messenger!
If this ever gets implemented, this will obviously change how we "see" entertainment forever. But even more important, as the article hints, think about the blind and deaf! Could this technology be used to send the data directly to their brains and allow them to see and hear again? I personally have lost more than 50% of my hearing in one ear because of a childhood infection to the ear drum and I can tell you that I would really much like to hear how the world sounds at full stereo again. Exciting technology.
I totally agree with you and I've said the same thing numerous times. In an ideal world, people should require to get a license to be online, just like you require a license to drive a car or as you said, HAM radio. Using computers while surfing the net can ALSO cause damages (obviously to a much lesser degree) to innocent by standards if the operator does not know what he/she is doing.
They don't understand the jargon? Flat out, too bad really. If they want to use a computer, be connected to the Internet, be up to date, and prepared with what is going on in terms of security threats, reality is, they better prepared to learn this "jargon" unless they have the money to have someone babysit their computer for them. Unfortunately, this "geek speak" is the most efficient way to get the message across at the moment and it's not about to change for people who don't take the time to learn what they are getting into.
Let me give you an example. I moved to Canada from Peru about 10 years ago. When I was living in Peru, I could care less about the weather since it was always the same. It was sunny and warm 99% of the time. When I came to Canada things changed. I had to learn about the various ways of describing the current weather and how they affect me (POP%, Wind-chill, visibility, HUMIDITY %, dewpoint, etc). Partly cloudy and warm did not cut it anymore. Should people start complaining that this "geek weather talk" confuses them? No. Educate yourself about what these terms are and learn to recognize which terms are relevant to what you need to know. Plain and simply, stop being so lazy.
Ok, All joking aside, couldn't they have chosen a better looking girl than Paris Hilton for the joke? The girl is ugly!!!! why are people still talk about her so much.
Is the prefetching working for anyone? I've done some simple searches and none of the pages at the top of the result list loaded faster. I looked at the code and there doesn't seem to be prefetch attributes on the links either. I tried.com and.ca, same thing.
On a related note, I use a similar trick/hack with my photo gallery. When viewing an image at full size, the page loads up the next image wrapped around with a css display:hidden attribute so the browser fetches the next image without displaying it and saves it in its cache. When the user clicks on next to view the next image, the page loads really fast. Prefetching however has the benefit of being a standard, the browser downloads the file quietly, and it can be turned off.
Well and that is why Google will continue to be the dominant search engine and why I will continue recommending their products to my clients, friends, and family.
And why Yahoo's product incompatibility will be irrelevant once Google takes over by doing it the right way.
Bye Yahoo, unfortunately your 1998 mentality won't get you far nowadays.

"Major Browsers Have JS Pop-Up Flaw"
..... They implement it! ;)
They sure do!
indeed
But I think the best comment comes from their website itself : "Our lawyer is making us say that OpenSolaris is a trademark of Sun Microsystems, Inc."
No, seems like you are actually in a Breadbox.

When viewing images, tab icons now display thumbnails of the displayed image."
I hope this can be disabled else a lot of

Section IX, Paragraph 3 of the license agreement states you need to give your First-Born child to Microsoft along with your left testicle.

Forget Google, how about grep!

They are truely creating an Operating System and it is inspired by OSX! Check it out.
As the page says..
"Roses are red. Violets are blue. OS X rocks. Homage to you."
Good idea, For a different test It would also be interesting to add a few windows boxes into the mix as well. WinXP, Win2k, Win 2003, maybe some bsds.
Here is the official site containing photos, videos, flight logs, etc and Steve's challanges page.

Looks like this one file was created using Photoshop 3.0 which released back in 1994. So it is either fake or resaved at around that time.
