It dawned on me the other day while borrowing a friend's cell that really, cell phones are really just small wireless computers with limited features that are called phones in order to sell more of them.
Maybe something like http://www.filepile.org will spring up, only hosted using swarmcast or some other p2p tech. It seems like central servers are an expensive way to host something like adcritic.

Some cool pics from last year's contest can be found at the same site:

They're worth looking at because they show more interior details of the bikes, including small video display units and breathing masks.
If you want to see an almost-recumbent car, check out this prototype from Corbin Motors:

It's the closest implementation I've seen of the faired recumbent style. Of course it'll go 110 mph using dead dinosaurs, and it is amazing looking.
I would argue that the vast majority of non-computer owners don't have the background to *know* that they can get online with a 486 running linux, nor would they know how to create or install such a system. The Brazilian initiative provides a common platform and reference point, which has its advantages.
Instead of a robot, turn it into an exoskeleton for the disabled. Kind of like that smart wheelchair described in Wired. Of course, it should be able to fire small missiles and jump over at least 10 feet of razor-wired fencing.
Wired was really a tamer version of Mondo 2000, and it in turn has become a slightly modified version of Forbes ASAP, i.e. a boring little business magazine. Sadly, it's still better than most and a source of ideas despite its encroaching lameness.
I remember seeing the first issue on the newstand and reading about hacking cellphones and an article by Bruce Sterling. Now all we get are buttkissing megalomaniac capitalists.
Wired, I hardly knew ye.
p.s. any other possible replacement zines for wired out there?

I've noticed that windows millenium (gag) comes with some sort of phonesync software.

Here's a possible application:
