I agree. Anything 'government' is incredibly expensive, typically for no reason whatsoever but 'they can.' Try being a volunteer fireman or volunteer EMT when you buy some of your own stuff - because something is 'public safety' it's oh-my-god expensive because, after all, in (most cases) it's the taxpayer picking up the tab, so who cares? Tragic.

  2. Hear, hear. I'm not an AI researcher but you can see bias in any algorithm that isn't based on straight out mathematics (though I suppose one could split hairs and say mathematical 'axioms' are bias!) . A spell check is biased toward a particular spelling of a word, etc. Something that makes choices is going to have a bias because a choice is, duh, a bias.

  4. Most mega churches I've seen are in relatively poor places, like Colorado Springs. Fortunately I don't live in, nor visit, California. Have I been there ? Yes, many times. Hopefully I won't have to return anytime soon. Just personal preference, that much crowding isn't my thing. But I do have a question, have you ever visited such churches? I'm really (genuinely) curious about this attitude as I've never, ever encountered it before.

  5. I'm afraid I don't watch TV so I don't know what folks said about Obama. He was merely a clueless man who was out of his depth, like most of the American populace. Perhaps people didn't say God was working through Clinton but he did make a big show of praying when you could quite clearly see that it was fake. I suppose his base was anti-religious and the other party wouldn't say much nice about him. The one thing nice I will say about him was that he was amusing.

  6. In order to get public assistance, a drivers license, or anything else you have to visit the appropriate govenrment office. But, hint, organizations like the League of Women voters could no doubt be asked to help transport people who need transport. i'd even support giving people the money to do it, too. Hell I'll even write a cheque, if we can eliminate the endemic voter fraud we've had for decades.

  7. Of course, the real reason why the US keeps getting worse is that we've shipped all of our wealth generating industry out of the country.

  8. I live in a red state, in an even redder area of this state. I've never heard of such people. Where do they exist?

Oh honest to goodness. The hysteria on both sides of the political aisle of 'person X SCARES me!' Geez louise. All of you, just stop. We have a system of checks and balances. What we NEED is this: 1. No more judicial activism. 2. Term limits. 3. Immediate constitutional tests of EVERY law passed (ha!) 4. Reducing the size of the state so that it can't interfere in your personal life.

  16. What? Let's see, when I lived in Colorado every place I had to go to get voter ID done, well, let's just say I was happy I could lock my car. That was true when I lived back east, too. Personally, I think the left loves the situation they way it is because they can cheat, cheat, cheat by having people vote multiple times.

  17. AND have picture ID voter ID laws. I've seen enough vote cheating while queuing at the polls in my lifetime to want to hurl my cookies.

  18. I think it depends on when 'work hours' are defined. Personally, while I don't want to have odd hours meetings ALL the time, alternating what's "good" for someone in India and what's "good" times for someone in USA isn't unreasonable.

I agree. In a computer science major you learn a bunch of things - at least I did - like how operating systems work, how to write a compiler, how to do complexity analysis of your algorithm to see if you're writing efficient code, how to engineer software so you can build a tight application that can scale, an intro to artificial intelligence ( this was more of a survey course but I did my bachelors and masters in CS quite a while back), a course in data structures, a course in computer architecture to understand how the underlying physical architecture affected programs and how to do low level programming. And a bunch of other stuff. I've wrote code for the following industries: telecom, healthcare, cloud Saas, internet security, embedded applications for precise time (think the clocks that run power systems). In each of those industries I directly applied my computer science knowledge. I do not understand how this conclusion can be drawn. Can you be 100% self taught? Of course. But you still need the knowledge.
