I have an upgraded kernel and X windows 4.1.0, and have never ONCE experienced the problems everyone else speaks, of with the NVIDIA drivers. Not to mention they are faster than all of the DRI drivers. Much much much faster.
NVIDIAs cards are gamer oriented. Not so-called "Real linux user" oriented!

Aye, but, who wants to pay money for their card and for their drivers???? My regret for NVIDIA is that their drivers USE GLX...key in there is X...talks about a slowdown!

ATI could probably get better linux driver's if they'd jsut release ALL of the damned specs on their cards. How's NVIDIA no true to the linux community? Oh right their driver's aren't open-source. BFD! Gamers don't care! I don't care personally! It's their perogative. they'll never get shipped with X or the kernel, wah wah, big deal, they're fast, plenty stable and free as in beer.

Err, not true. NVIDIA's linux drivers ARE plenty fast, but not nearly as fast as in windows. This is due to their using GLX...which means X windows which means SLOW. Direct hardware access or no, if you use X you're going to run slow.

ATI is no where near filling that void sir! Take a look at their drivers. Quite simply, they suck! Particularly the linux drivers. My apologies, but NVIDIA is the only company to have decent (speedwise) linux drivers on the market. I can't say that is true for stability, however, I have zero stability problems due to the drivers, although others have said otherwise. ATI's windows drivers, however are cripplingly unstable ( have been for many years too. ) Not to mention, the card/driver mixer is just behind NVIDIA as far as speed, and only gets ahead in FSAA benchmarks, which personally, I couldn't give a rip about. I want a card that runs stable and runs fast in Linux AND windows (shudder...) not one that runs stable in one OS and fairly fast on one, but hey, the image quality is good. If that was the case I'd have used ATI a long time ago.

I don't see how 90% of IT jobs require a solitary nature. Honestly! At some level in almost ANY field you have to be able to work with people...once in a while you'll find a job where you don't. Whether it's answering user's questions, or being on a programming team, you'll at some point have to work with someone else.

Since when did anyone say geeks wee socially ept? This is from the same crowd that freaks out anytime someone posts a generalization! The geek who can't get a date thing is a stereotype...stereotypes exist, but it's not necesarilly the norm. Perhaps geeks for user groups to become more informed about what they are using? Aside from that, how many people go to linux user groups vs. how many people use linux? Hmm. Suddenly thing look different if I am in your shoes, because the ratio isn't exactly even. I met most of my geek friends ironically by them being friends with, or related to girls I dated. Or I met them through high school sports, or jsut high school classes.

Me, I like to socialize, however I can easily work alone. I also have always made friends whereever I've worked. I used to eat lunch with the same guy everyday, or at my current job, everyone knows me so well that people come to me for advice on non-work issues. The point is, ability to work alone does not equate a need to work alone. The original poster incinuated that people heavily into IT do not like to socialize, or at least prefer not to socialize. I disagreed and I think I fairly well proved him wrong.

Even Sys Admins have to be able to deal with people. Otherwise they'll get fired for just generally being assholes to the users. At least in Georgia they would (thank God for "Right to hire,Right to fire.") Your argument simply makes no sense to be honest! A world government means that if you don't like the laws where you live...tough, there is no refuge, you're just fucked. Actually, the big government is a result of the depression in my opinion...the government began to grow at an exponential rate as of the "New Deal." The big corporations are a result of capitolism and it's methods. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it, if people buy their products, no one holds a gun to their heads. I do not like campaign contributions from big businesses, which is a good reason for term limits: if a congress person (as opposed to congressman) knows they only have 8 years or what have you to do their thing, we less likely to have career politicians who make their money off of big corporations.

Off my soapbox though...remember, the US and other countries with nice liberties like freedom of speech are in the minority. A global government would not help matters.
