So when your SSD (or any other soldered parts) broke off, you have to throw the laptop in the garbage?? (e-waste recycling is just an illusion... everything is sent to Hong-Kong and sent to the trash). And what about extending the life of your laptop by upgrading some parts of it? Apple is the biggest e-waste producer on the planet. It's a shame! And all those Hipster defending the planet with their iPhone in their pockets!
The problem is not the access to the USB drive but the easy access to the data. Only a printer is required to steal data mass data (or a pen/paper if you're really motivated!).
As a freelancer, I can assure you that in all insurance companies I worked as a contractor I had access to the WHOLE clients databases easily : Samba drives on production server open to everyone, access to production databases (like every other IT employees in the company), services exposes wide open (REST/SOAP services, app server communication channel (WebLogic t3 for example),...), shared "tmp/exchange" drives where production batch put stuff in it "temporary",..
USB devices is not the problem. Easy access to data for everyone in the company is the problem.
I always debated this with people that think that everything must be digital because "dead-tree stuff is bad and will kill our planet (tm)". Come on! First trees are renewable and I prefer having papers and books in a landfield than laptop, cell, TV, batteries,... Don't get me wrong. I work in IT for 21 years and I love it, but the problem is that people change their e-stuffs almost every year because their e-stuffs became obsolete, slow like hell because the latest OS updates (I'm talking to you Apple and Microsoft),...
I installed the Tab Momory Usage addon on FF and what I noted is site like Gmail, Facebook,... consume a LOT of memory because of all the Javascript bloat they use. My Gmail tab alone consumed almost 200 MB of memory! So I switch to the basic HTML version of GMail and memory usage dropped to 3.5 MB only! Yes I lost all the keyboard shortcuts, draft auto-save,... (come on Google, you can at least enable keyboard shortcuts!), but I can leave with the basic version.
So yes maybe browsers need optimization but some sites are responsible for outrageous memory consumption.
I'm from QC, Canada and I (we) have no problem at all with Imperial Units. We use both standards in our day to day life. Person weight/height in pounds/feet&inches, distances in KM, construction material in feet/inches (everything is sold in feet : 2x4x10, 4x4x12,...),... In school we learned the International System but in real life, this is not what is used (like many things you learn at school not applicable in real life!).:)
Period.
Almost nothing ;)

IRC is difficult for programmers to use?! What?! I hope you are joking.

My GMC Sierra (most basic model with only 4x4 option) automatically connect with my phone with Bluetooth. Just sayin'. ;)
They are removing the code from the "automatic email forwarding" that also send a copy to the NSA.
Is it just me or HTML spec start to be a f***ing mess? Google, Apple, Microsoft, .... please leave HTML markup standard alone!

Is it possible to simply drop it on Flickr?
It's time to "invent" a new Web. A place where big corporations are not welcome.
It's from Apple, so it's new again. ;)
Orwell's 1984 book was supposed to be only a fiction too...
Why not TheOS, AnOS, OS/4, ... ;)
What's the problem?
What if I have a new shell script instead of an old one? ;)
