I read his tribe weekly in InfoWorld just for the sake of seeing what stupid thing he'll say next. It's damn funny. I think he's a moron that is getting crotchety in his old age. InfoWorld should put an editor's note beneath his column. "Editor's Note: Infoworld does not endorse the horse puckey that Bob Metcalfe writes. In fact, we'd fire him, but we get such a kick out of his writings and it'd be a shame not to have at least one good laugh a week."
Hello McFly's... This is old. A repost. It's not relevant. It is funny, but it takes up to much of my screen. I suppose that this is about as close to getting laid by Miss Portman as many of you will ever be... but get a life you dweebs.
"I don't get into all the boycotting BS and DeCSS bunk, so I don't really care; it was just the only link."
Well then here is a link for you my apathetic friend. You complain about an edition costing more. If you'd stand for something like the rest of us, it may just bring the prices down.
Slashdotters, This is a great opportunity to send the message to all that we won't stand for Amazon.com with their ridiculous "One-Click" patents and the MPAA with their desire for "Corporate Marshall Law." The Amazon.com case is bad enough, but if that were the only problem, the solution would be simple. Buy from another. Yet, this whole DeCSS thing is out of control. Plain and simply put, the case FOR DeCSS must be won or else the precident that will be set will be dangerous.
I am but one man. I don't know what will need to be done to effectively send the message. Boycotts are good. But we are all going to have to do it. I'm not buying DVDs. I'm boycotting movies. What else do I do? What else do we all do? Join the EFF? Ok, I'll do that too. But, what else?
Let's win soon guys. I really want to buy a DVD player and DVD movies. And that includes SW:TPM (when it's on DVD)
And just why did the moderators give this a low score? Huh? It's a very good point. It was a damn confusing sentence. Ooh... Katz talks above our heads. If I can't read this once and understand what's being said right away, it's poor writing. In fact, I've read it a dozen times and it still makes no sense. Katz is weird.
And I suppose an Atari 2600 is just as good to you as a brand new Dreamcast?
BTW. Groundbreaking was done last year my man. It's called... Half-Life (only the most kick-ass FPS game ever... at least the single player version.)
My $40.02 (Reflects approximate savings after spending hundreds upon hudreds on games and computer upgrades annually and then offsetting the cost by not having a girlfriend/wife/kids... Not that I don't want those.)
Yikes! I too have put money down on my first release Collectors Tin box of Q3. I was thinking that they would put all platforms on the same CD or have the binaries available right away for Linux. So now I'm gonna cancel my pre-order or switch it from Windoze to Linux if they've got the option at my local software rip-off store. Some of the posts I've been reading so far are calling people to buy the Linux version (because we intend to use them) and get the binaries for Windoze from the net or friends. I admire Carmack for asking people to buy the version that they will play on to send the message to the corporate womp-rats who can't see past the dollar$ in their eyes. Id/Carmack is just going to keep on developing in Linux anyway. I myself don't have a dual boot set up yet on my game machine because I'm still waiting for quality drivers for my hardware that have been promised. So, for the short while I will have to play my Q3 on Windoze, but I'm still going to buy the Linux version. I don't think that Carmack really gives a shit if I "pirate" the game for a few days before and then the windoze binaries after the release of the Linux boxed version as long as I do buy the game.
Whenever I ask someone for their email address and they tell me it's "username@aol.com" I always repeat it while writing it down (almost muttering under my breath, but in a very serious manner.) "Ok, that's _______ (username) at "I'm an idiot dot com" and then I look up from my pad and say thanks. AOL is for tecno-fools. I was one once. It's department store network access. It belongs with Packard Bell computers. Hell, it should belong to Microsoft... "This is where you will go today."
Yeah, snail mail bites. Why bother wasting $.33, a sheet of paper, and an envelope. Too much work to mail a letter... Mommy and Daddy pay all the bills for me... I don't want to move from my computer. And while I'm on the subject, voting is just too much effort too. I think I'll just not care. It's so much easier to push a button... that means that I'm serious right? (All of the above is a sarcastic as it comes.) Seriously, if you don't aren't going to buy the game then don't mail it in. Post that instead. If you truly gave a rat's furry arse whether you'd buy it or not, you'd post an encouraging message.
Spoken like a true Anonymous Coward. Spoken like an idiot is more like it. Oh wait! Everquest? Spoken like someone who is wasting their life away. Hello!!! Wake up!!! C&C games have always been top sellers. They aren't doing a Linux version. This is a petition to get them to do one. This game will sell just fine without a Linux version. Perhaps C&C was before your time? Go back to Neverquest.
Ya, taking the time to fill out the petition and then print it and mail it snail-mail may seem like an effort. Good. It's supposed to be. I'm thinking the slashdot effect they wish to avoid is the one that thousands of Linux proponents will bombard them with demands for a Linux port via email, but the majority of them will not buy the product if they did. However, if you are willing to take the time to mail it in this shows more seriousness. I agree. We have to start this somewhere. Actually, it's been started by Loki with Civ:CTP, Quake(fill in the version), and Kingpin. But let's keep it up. I would encourage all to take the effort to mail this in and buy the game. It's going to be a great game. Keep this in mind. Command & Conquer games have been top sellers. Tiberian Sun will be one too. If Westwood gets enough demand to port this to Linux and it sells well enough, then they'll consider new games for Linux with much less (if any) debate. So lick that stamp and stick it. Thanks.
I think this shows the right perspective. Common sense doesn't seem to be involved in the "tests". Just raw numbers. Hmmmm... What's the negative point score for having to reboot the server all the dang time?
I take some comfort in knowing that the old coot will be dead soon. Brother. What an idiot. Bury him next to his butt-buddy LBJ and be done with him.

Shut up dumbass!
Hey, why don't they just embed a microchip in our foreheads or on the back of our hands.

AOL just plain sucks!
