because an SUV has a 5L v8 that doesn't even notice an a/c compresser turning on. while it is true most new cars switch off the a/c upon load to avoid impacting gas milage.. your civic's gas mileage WILL take a hit when the a/c is running full blast during a hot summer day.
for instance, my car tells me i get about 2-3mpg less when driving around without the turbo spooled (4-banger, below 3000rpm). that's an extra tank of gas consumed per month, and my car is relatively newish. who knows how much those older cars drink because they can't disengage the a/c under load
fyi, with spirited driving with or without a/c, my car consumes roughly the same amount of gas.
i seem to remember a movie that was a box office smash complete with a false documentary on the sci-fi channel. WAS THAT 100% WRONG?
lets go back further.. was the original War of the Worlds wrong? if you could go back in time would you ban these works of art because they are wrong/immoral? if so, how do you propose we avoid ever letting things like this happen in the future?
fyi, i wasn't speaking in support of the PPC6700. I'm quite happy with my windows mobile pda (yes, there are pda's with windows mobile that aren't docked to a cell phone zOMG!@$) with double the RAM than your phone, an additional 200mhz, a sharper screen, AND i can use it as a wifi phone when necessary. All in a form factor way smaller than your phone.
all of these gripes and you still keep your phone.. i'm going to bet its so you don't have to carry two devices around everywhere. which is understandable. i, on the other hand, have the best of both worlds and none of the griping.
btw the activesync horror you speak of does not exist for me since activesync will only engage when its docked to a pc. charging.
with such a low uid, i'd expect better from you.. but i'll bite. you do realize there are 480x640 windows mobile pda's right? the only better screen in a small form factor is some nokia garbage, but its propretiary as hell and i don't see it lasting very long. so mr i-dont-make-wise-decisions, what would you recommend for mobile computing?
and don't say a laptop because i'm not going to pull one out when i'm standing up on the subway during rushhour
in 1995 did you think wireless was going to be as widespread as it is now? hell, usb was doomed for failure back then.. yet its a defacto standard now.
No. Does interlink claim to have patented wireless technology? No. But apparently they had the idea of converging the two technologies and therefore applied for a patent before anyone else did. Sorry to say, its valid.
If not, wireless would be a logical extension to an existing idea over time. Please explain more (and cite existing patent examples).
They created the NES zapper. They created a wireless controller for the GC. The convergence of the two for the gamecube came AFTER Sept 1995 and, logically, AFTER the patent was applied for.
Who's fault is it that the telecommuters were allowed to telecommute and upper management didn't know? Who's fault is it that upper management axes their best developer after asking lower management "who is Mike?" Mike could be the quiet, introverted guy who never shows up at company gatherings but dillegently plugs away in his cube. How safe is he from getting fired then?
Second, if you're telcommuting and you're expected to be doing work.. there's a reasonable assumption that catching you logged into xbox 360 will get you fired. COMMON SENSE. This goes for things such as posting to slashdot at work, making personal calls on the company dime, etc.
Secondly, I am highest up in my chain. So I let my employees work from if they want to. They have to supply their own broadband connection and pc. If they don't, they get to come into the office every day. Is that fair? I think so...
Possible flamebait follows.. read at your own discretion.
Finally, i will reiterrate a previous point. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU NEED TO BE AT WORK TO DO WORK AND THEY OFFER TELECOMMUTING, THEN KEEP GOING IN TO WORK. No one has a gun to your head saying "work from home". or, IF YOU ARE OFFERED A TELECOMMUTING POSITION, DON'T TAKE IT. I can't believe how many people have posted comments like this. I mean I know opinions are like assholes, but does it have to happen every single time? I like orange juice, should i tell you how delicious orange juice is compare to your crappy choice of cranberry juice? </flame>
okay, first of all, i am all for telecommuting. if you need an office, fine go to the office, if you don't.. save the company a dollar or two and stay at home. second, meetings? they're mandatory. if you want everyone at a meeting at 8am, give 24 hours notice and specify if they have to be present or merely on the phone (exceptions expected, don't bitch if it happens.. you get to work from home, better than 90% of the world). third, make sure everyone is reachable between certain hours. you will have a happy workforce. you will also have an obedient taskforce, since a job where you can telecommute is rare and high in demand and i'm sure a telecommuter would not want to give up his/her job to return to a 8-5 cubicle hell position.
one of my previous jobs were like this (fortune 100 company) and productivity was high. as my company grows larger i plan on implementing the same policy and save money in the process.
first of all, yes mac is in the PERFECT position to take over the desktop, but they're too money hungry and afraid to tackle x86's problems. and lets face it, the world is cheap. mrs martin next door that has debt problems and a kid ready to go to school won't buy a $1500 mac compared to a $300 dell.
second.. dude, re-read my post i was talking about the desktop. that said we all know aix, sun, etc. are enterprise ready. windows has become the defacto standard that everyone sees when they walk into an office. mac could make the comeback, but they can't leverage the ease of use/policy based computing/system management functions well enough.
windows and unix have also been marketed to diferrent groups, windows = ease of use, unix = difficult to understand but powerful. the more you move towards ease of use the less powerful tools you have at your disposal. for desktop environments SPYWARE/ADWARE will ALWAYS exist unless we start talking seriously about trusted computing. ms and sony are fighting that battle for the home as we speak, nothing exists for the enterprise yet (windows kinda not really, linux not even close)
required to deal with the security problems, spyware, adware is huge problem
fast forward 10 years into the apolyptic future. linux is the desktop king. you don't think spyware, adware, et al is going to exist? i mean by that notion, microsoft had it pretty damn easy in the windows 3.1 and early 95 days, remember? if linux can solve the problem, explain why a bunch of heavily paid microsoft researchers cannot do the same thing.
smile and nod motherfucker. if its just an offer, then you can decline it.
now if s/he is saying "you have to do it this way or else" then its time to gather everyone on your team and rebel against your manager. this doesn't mean ignoring what s/he says, or thinking of him/her as less of a manager, but sitting down in a meeting and laying down all the good points and bad points of his plan (either s/he will see how the bad far outweighs the good, or you will actually realize its a good idea. i've seen both happen). you must do this THE FIRST FEW TIMES they throw out outlandish comments, suggestions, deliverables. otherwise you give your new manager upper hand and future revolts will not go over so well.
additionally, psychology comes into play. find out what s/he likes, chat it up with them, go to lunch with them on occasion. get to know the person and then use it to your advantage. if you're good around women, use the same tactics with your managers (play on the warm fuzzy feelings, avoiding the cold pricklies. it doesn't matter what you say, it matters how they respond to what you say). if you're a hermit.. well, you'll probably just end up on slashdot complaining about your manager:)
my samsung mp3 player does not have a car charger. it charges via usb. no fancy cigarette adapter -> usb plug. in fact the only fm transmitters that also charge your mp3 player only exist for the ipod. so to reiterate the grandparent's post; If you buy a unit that also charges the battery but you don't own an iPod... you're pretty much screwed.
i'm not ignorant of the pc. i have a 17" trinitron crt, i have a beefed up gaming rig that i use to mostly play counterstrike with. console games were designed with the console in mind, so you don't have to sit up close to a 15" monitor to follow the game. similar to movies, i can watch it on my laptop for a sharper image, but i have a 42" lcd in my room that i can lay back in my bed and enjoy watching with my gf.
i apologize, i meant "gamepad" but i guess that just shows my age when "gamepads" replaced joysticks but people still called "gamepads" joysticks. anyway i have a microsoft sidewinder asshole, i don't see logitech's dual analog whatever helping me. you're saying consoles limit our input options yet you're telling me that i have to have a specific controller type to play GTA on the pc. what?
have you ever had a friend bring a new ps2 game over and say to you "oh you can't play this because your screen is too big, and your controller type isn't compatible"?
1. The graphics are better (and more adjustable). 1) I have a 62" fucking tv. Can't complain about resolution because my tv doesn't really do more than 720p. I'm not running my computer to the tv just for a video game. Plus if you don't have exactly the right kind of joystick, you can't finish some of the required missions.
2. You can modify the game in various ways if you ever wish to do so (yes there's the X-rated mod for San Andreas, but there are others). 2) the only other mod that is worthwhile is the multiplayer grand theft mod. even then its a bunch of laggy morons running into things saying "this is so cool"
3. The load times are almost nonexistant (i.e. when hopping from island to island). Really, when you're going 140 and everything just stops dead for 10 seconds or so while it loads the other island, it can get frustrating. 3) what load time? xbox caches to the hard drive, i don't worry about waiting
4. It's easier to back up saved games on PC, since they're just files in your My Documents folder; none of that memory pack crap. This also makes it easy to save games with cheat codes enabled (seriously hysterical things are possible with the cheat codes, but they prevent you from achieving 100% game completion if you save with them). 4) I turn on my xbox without a cd, I then connect to my xbox via ftp and i can add/remove saves and even trainers.
Why should I give a hoot about my pc again? Oh right, so I can tell everyone i play the latest xbox game on my pc instead. Console based games are more fun on a console because It Just Works(tm).
they spread tasks across all the cores. valve has maybe a 1 month headstart, but lets look at the bigger picture. ps3 was designed with this in mind and development kits have been out for awhile. of course, you have to design your game differently for a ps3 compared to, say, an xbox360 or pc since you don't have to traverse a series of cpus before getting to the one you want.
this is valve doing smoke and mirrors to hype up the steam platform, but in reality we'll see games that are designed in a similar manner in a few months.
what, do you not remember the pentium F00F bug? this is why microcode exists, to fix problems in the chip design AFTER the chip has been released. this is why you don't see recalls on processors. i'm willing to bet this "processor driver" was nothing more than a microcode update, but i don't care to research it so take this line with a grain of salt.
haha not likely. making sendmail perform like exchange is an exercise in futility. and i know this because i have designed, deployed, and administered enterprise sendmail and exchange deployments of similar sizes.

hate to be pendantic but...... i don't believe the super scope or the menacer had triggers on the underside of the device.
read the patent, it specifically says using wireless technology. invalidating the original poster's zapper claim
and in case you were just trolling.. yes, wireless is the new internet.
No. Does interlink claim to have patented wireless technology?
No. But apparently they had the idea of converging the two technologies and therefore applied for a patent before anyone else did. Sorry to say, its valid.
