Bzzzzt. That's simply not the point. I've already purchased the game, and assumed goodwill. I can hurt the company in potential future purchases, but I've already been harmed.
In this case, I think they should be severely fined, after due justice and investigation.
I've given up hope of seeing space hotels in *my* lifetime.
I wonder why you say this. I'm in my mid-late '30's and have every intention of visiting 'space' before I pass away. We need to remember that in the last generation that lifespans have effectively been extended ~8-10% or more. Who's to say that that isn't going to continue?
I for one am looking forward to living a long, long time barring any significant eco/nuclear/alien-induced catastrophe.
That graphic is pretty old, date-wise. I don't think linux.com had even relaunched in May and they had a TON of "popular" press about that. The numbers now would probably be a fair amount (but not significantly) different.
Sometimes, we forget that weird stuff like this happens, and more specifically that it can happen to people like us. Frankly, I can suspend disbelief for a bit and go along with the article. After all, my boss a few yars back was Howard Rheingold, and it doesn't get much more odd than that.
I have a GNN t-shirt that I scored when GNN helped sponsor the original "First Night in Cyberspace" and I helped out showing people the Web in San Francisco.
The reporter, Paul Festa has repeatedly written stories which attempt to cast 'Net companies, and more specifically Netscape and the Mozilla project in a bad light.
Granted, being a Netscape employee I may have a bias but he's not willing to engage in email debates, and I for one have begun to discount or take with a jumbo-sized salt lick anything he writes.
I wouldn't doubt for a second he's reading this, waiting for some juicy nugget he can twist into another slash piece.
I also doubt if he'll ever try (as some other intrepid better clued 'Net journalists do) to post or otherwise defend his writings here.
Oh, and I 100% agree that Alan Baratzs' statements frankly are *at this time* really not a basis for concern. Sun is probably just really miffed over their (media driven) perceived loss of control over Java.
I used to hate this kind of knee-jerk-esque rhetoric about Netscape....
Then don't make them yourself. Do you really think that the same people who are busy coding away on Mozilla are being pulled away to make a marketing decision to use Google as the search backend for the Netcenter portal? Hello?
Actually, there are 128 bit versions for all platforms. It just takes a few days to wire these into the secure servers (as I'm heading off to QA these in a few minutes). Wise slashdotters in the past have found them prior to general announcement. Think of it as a treasure hunt, it ain't that hard.
FWIW, if you poke around you might notice that the "export" version is no longer 40 bit encryption.
It's now 56bit...

It would behoove the people that download, install and run this milestone build if they would take the time to read the releas e notes for this build first.
Please also note that posting complaints, or half formed bug reports do virtually no good in the Slashdot forum besides inflaming troll like feelings or pointing developers in directions that they should not be headed in.
More informed users would be better served by checking out the well written bug reporting documentation located here!

There should be monetary penalties for this sort of thing. Hit companies where it hurts, in the pocketbook.
But please. Who the hell would administer something like this? More importantly, who would 'police' it?
Sounds like a bunch of hot air to me.
I recognized very specifically who said some of the anonymous quotes. It was a tad eerie.
AND, try downloading the WP formatted version. You'll get a 404 error, and its been that way since they put it up.
I'm not moderating
There are probably going to be AT LEAST 40,000 AC slashdotters alone alive in 75 years or so.
Chances are with my lifestyle I'll die of old age are quite remote.

Us ex-mozillans were truly frightened by that commercial. Has it found its way onto the Net yet?
What happens when Rob can't post?

What do you think should be the final outcome of the Microsoft vs. the DOJ trial?

buy.com is running Microsoft-IIS/4.0 on NT4 or Windows 98
