    How can this be!
I'm so shocked, did I really think that new version of Windows would be faster than older ones? No!
Please tell me even one Windows which was faster than its predecessor?

  3. Not exactly on Do Digital Photos Endanger History? · · Score: 1

What she said couldn't be more away from the truth.
The amount of information stored globally doubles every year. I personally have stored ten times more pictures after buying a digital camera, since the storage doesn't cost anything.

The professionals might delete bad pictures since they work like an artists, but every single person who has switched from an analog camera to a digital one has increased the amount of pictures stored. Professional photographers are a needle in a haystack compared to the common photographers.

It's not only the amount of pictures but also the availability. For an example earlier if you took a picture at a party and your friends wanted it too, you had to go through a lot of trouble when making copies and paying them by yourself first. Now if I took a picture at a party I post it into the Internet and millions of people can make their copies so the picture will actually have a lot longer life cycle.

  4. A simple solution. on Microsoft: The Gatekeeper of the Internet · · Score: 1

I have a simple solution to the microsoft problem.

Let's make microsoft an independent state. Then it could collect taxes and have its monopolies withouth anyone complaining. Everyone currently using microsoft products would become immediately citizen of that state and microsoft's new Passport(tm) technology could perform the function of population register.

Btw. This idea is copyrighted by me. If microsoft wants to use it they can send me an offer via email.

I cannot create standalone applications with J# so I had to learn C# to do them anyway.

J# is not compatible with Sun's Java so I can't use them together.

Sun's Java runtime is available for Windows(tm).

C++ is faster than C# so why would I use .NET?

  8. Think Americans, think! on Freedom Flees in Terror · · Score: 1

It seems that either American politicians are extremely stupid or extremely cunning. About 90% of the limited freedom acts are only concerning lawful citizens. Do you really think that sniffers in ISPs' servers or a backdoor in commercial security program concerns criminals?

The terrorist attack has taken USA a great leap towards BigBrother (Orwellish) nation. Goverment agencies (CIA, FBI, NSA, etc) have become more powerful than ever before.. Do you really think that an agency that knows if a sheep shits in New Sealand doesn't know when the world's worst terrorist act is about to happen?

  9. Congress to support criminals? on Congress Considers Mandatory Crypto Backdoors · · Score: 1

What is exactly the point of the backdoor?

If opensource developer creates a program without the backdoor he will be arrested. But criminals have their own coders/hackers, if we knew who they were they would've been arrested already. What prevents terrorists from using current opensource projects or programs not stationed in the USA?

This is like giving a master key to every house in the states to the FBI. But criminals can still order their doorlocks from outside USA. I hope you all understand that this only let's Feds to prosecute terrosists from using illegal-programs. When they do that the terrorists just become more alert.

  10. Re:Newbies on The Assembly In Review · · Score: 1

You misunderstood my point. I personally like Amiga demos, Amigascene was always better than PC. But what I cannot understand is how PC-"coders" can loose a democombo with all possible 3d-effects integrated to the graphic card and processor power hundred times greater than in Amiga's.

  11. Newbies on The Assembly In Review · · Score: 1

I have to say I was very dissapointed of the demos at Assembly. You might wanna check out Future Crew's 2nd Reality from -93 Assembly. It run smoothly on my 386-33 and the 3d-city in the end of the demo was almost similar to the one in the best PC-demo at Asm'2001. And worst of all Amiga demo won the whole democombo (even PC-demos). What does this tell you? To me it says these kids who never saw operating systems before Windows(tm) don't know anything about optimizing code.
Has Windows(tm) made people so lazy they don't even want to try lower level coding? Is it so easy to write drawTextureFilledObject() via D3D interface that you don't wanna try to optimize the method? Is it the end of era of real coders?

  12. Kill the messenger on Pavlovich Jurisdictional Challenge Denied · · Score: 1

Once I believed in justice and righteousness, but I learned the hard way. I used to tell companies when I spotted security vulnerabilities in their software, but the only answer I got was an angry voice or a threat. The answer didn't come quickly, probably because I wasn't smart enough; but finally I learned just to exploit those vulnerabilities. I must be doing the right thing now because nobody is yelling to me anymore..

"Kill the messenger" attidute is very helpfull; this is how we all learn to become evil hax0rs. When you spot a bug, defect, vulnerability or any security problem in commercial software DO NOT report it. You only get in trouble. Best way is to exploit the vulnerability as well as you can and share it with your friends. Or atleast that is the message court is sending to public.

You seem to be forgetting that Dungeon Master was first made to Atari ST and run on 512k; amiga version came a lot later and needed 1Mbyte (=memory extension since A500 contained only 512k).

I have to say that I'm more than amused of the choices that made to the list.
It's needless to argue about opinions, but some of those choices were like comparing the LOTR to a comic book.

  16. What you could do with a 1 Terabyte server on Terabyte File Server for $5,000 · · Score: 3

Let's see what 1 Terabyte could hold:
    16700 Full length MP3 albums
1430 Divx dvdrip movies with surround sound
700 Divx dvdrip movies with AC3 sound
    200 DVD movies

A Guy with a T3 and 1 Terabyte fileserver could replace a fullsize videostore or even a library. Then again he could even have a radio station that would broadcast non-stop music for 2 years and none of the songs would be played twice.
Funny how the world turns around when technology advances. Few years from now and that server costs only 1000$. Then we all have our own videostores and libraries.. I wonder what happens to those public ones, that have been so popular till now.

  17. Not so far on Microsoft To Assist Ximian In Producing Mono · · Score: 1

You don't have to go that far to find similarities between Microsoft and Nazis.
We all know the famous clauses
"Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer" - Adolf Hitler (Translation: One people, one country, one leader)
"One People, One Web, One Program" - MicroSoft Ad.

But that's not the only similarity.. The new Hailstorm has its advantages too. "Hail" was the word used by Nazis to praise their leaders and Storm troopers were Hitlers personal troops. You can imagine what "Hail Storm" means..

You also probably know that if you count "Bill Gates 3" ASCII value, it equals "Adolf Hitler" ASCII value (which equals 666).
And so on, this is just a joke, but you already knew that, didn't you :)

Why did Hitler make a pact with the church?
It's very simple. Nobody questions a noble task. When that noble task turned to the holocaust everyone refused to believe it. The church itself could not resist Nazis because they depended too much on them.
OK. Maybe that was a bit harsh comparison, but I hope you go the point.

    You're right about both things.
If we look at the history martyrs have never gained personal benefit of the service they've done to the world. But they are always remembered just like Napster will be.
And the other thing. Just like Tolkien was the first to put together whole fantasy world or Torvalds was the first to make unix available to commoners. Neither one of them was the first to try their deed, but they were the first to do it right. Like the Napster, it wasn't the first to a create a file sharing service but it was the first who did it Right.
I bet my ass that you will see Napster in the history books hundred years from now.

  21. Joke or what? on Napster Settles with Metallica/Dr. Dre · · Score: 2

Napster is DEAD and will be forever. People have moved on, using better war3z software now. So what was the result of napster shutdown? Evolution. More law-resistant file-sharing programs have been developed, people feel more secured and share more, storage space has increased, Internet connections are faster. Does Music industry understand that they actually subserved pirates, even right now they're picking rotten corpse of Napster with smiling face thinking they have defeated pirates. Oh well.. let them smile..
