Was this only inspired by the April fools joke, or was the 'joke' just a clever way of telling people something like that was in development but to confuse us, then surprise us?
In other words, is larry wall and the python guy collaborating efforts to bring us a new language derived from both? or is this some hackers bringing an actual product out of the joke.
It always bothers me to hear that MS is anti-competive for reasons such as packaging extra software with their operating systems that are not core to its functionality. What I'd like to know is why doesnt anyone complain that Win98 tries to overwrite my Linux partition when I do a complete reinstall of Win98 (need it for StarCarft, Quake, and my mother)? No Linux distro I have ever used bitched and asked to overwrite my Win98 partition. Now that is anti-competitive.
BTW, a workaround - Install the MS OS, use FIPS to non-destructively make a new partition then install Linux on it.
Sure, slashdot is gonna be biased towards Linux, the authors seem to like it, some of them use perl, their site uses many free or OS tools.
don't forget where slashdot came from. it started out of hobby. and i can probably make a safe assumption by saying that from the early days of slashdot to the present, microsoft or some of those other companies slashdot does not favor had little influence. and as far as SDot being whores of VA? I don;t see it, really. as long as there are sites like fuckedcompany or others, the people can keep their watchful eye on VA elsewhere. plus, on a whole stories about AOL leaking user data are much more important (and affect much more ppl) than VA letting go of employees or whatever 'scandelous' news can be found of them.
take SD for what it is. a hobby turned job by a group of people with their own interests. if it wasn't for them we may not have heard of many of the cool things we read about often here (like that hand held atari, various alternative OSs, etc.).
I havent used GNOME for a long time. i didnt care for the look of it or its "features" which I never used. Plus, I have 28 MB of memory and found i hard to be productive.
I'm actually reading the hitchhikers now, its great.
Would Adams have agreed to have his publisher look through his comp for unpublished works so that they could be published? maybe he didn't wish for some of that work to be published.
Hitchhikers guide is great and i cant wait until schools over so i can resume reading it.
remember a while back when that obscure linux distro said that they would begin charging for downloading their distribution? While still not a last resort, that was more "alarming" to the linux community than Mandrake asking for donations.
I wasn't too alarmed to hear Mandrake ask for donations. Do not wish to donate? So don't. It wasn't like they spashed a "Please Support Your Favorite Distro" banner on their front page. There's much more scary buisness practices going on out there, we should concentrate on those. Actually this is bad exposure and they're probably just looking for a little help. 'll change my opinion if they start hounding users for donations but hopefully that won't happen. And we can't forget the hackers who put together KDE, GNOME, the Kernel, etc. They deserve as much if not more than the distro people, although that's not the point.
Why don't ISPs just delete their logs after a set period of time and make it known to the public so stunts like this can't be pulled of by big buisness/lawyers/feds? or pipe the logs off to some secret location every night and delete the server ones?
So, Yahoo says it will start selling more pr0n and some people complained enough to cause Yahoo to retract their plans and dump their old porn sections. Something tells me these same people never even knew Yahoo dabbled in porn in the first place (I didn't, but I don't usually go to yahoo anyway). It comes to light, suddenly they become scared, shit themselves, and then begin firing off some "No, Please no little Jimmy uses Yahoo to find Sailor Moon pictures...Please rethink your plans or we'll boycott...blah blah.."! e-mails. All was fine until Yahoo said they would be taking it further (it must of been fine because why else would they announce plans to erect new plans to expand their porn section). Hmmm, I hate how a few goody--goods ruin it for the rest of us (even though I could care less if they or anyone else sold porn online).
"tells the processor to switch itself on/off 50% of the time until it's temperature is within Intels spec-range again." maybe that's why Intel said it might cut the price of P4's inhalf. Because it runs at half speed half of the time.

Since you mom started paying me food stamps for sex I don't really have the currency to afford even cheap RAM.
