    how about the fact that this shows up in a tricky part of the task switcher for AT&T UNIX? some things are subtle and complicated. If you can't simplify them, and they are in fact necessary, the best thing is to wrap them in a sensible API and not worry about it.

    go read the dns FAQ; it's as easy as adminning any other domain. I did it for the .local domain so my boxes behind the firewall had DNS.

    The main reason I won't be getting a doctorate any time soon is that I think a lot of employers will then offer no additional money or refuse to hire me. All for 5 years of my life spent (most liekly) out of industry. I may do it as part of a company sponsored thing (at a research lab) or when i hit the 45 year old 'unhirable' wall.

    Actually, language doesn't limit thought, it limits communication of ideas. This means that when you have a new idea that doesn't fit in your language, you invent new terms and, sometimes, grammar.

    Keep in mind that death by gunshot includes suicides. That means that alot of people who would've blown their heads off jump off a bridge or swallow a pile of pills.

    As far as the general gun issue goes, every US state that has passed a law allowing concealed firearms has seen a drop in armed robbery and similar violent crime. I suppose you're less likely to mug somebody when they might have a gun too.
