First, Slackware doesn't normally use RPMs. If you want to use rpm, use RH/Fedora or Mandrake. I'll assume you meant pkgtool.
I meant what I said. What I desribed isn't any different than some idiot network admin under Windows pushing a Windows XP update out to a W2K machine. In both cases, it's the network administrator's mistake, not Windows.
Why are some linux releases still hanging onto the 2.4.26 kernel, or relasing two kernels (Knoppix comes to mind) ?
Maybe because 2.6 is still relatively new. There are very definite regressions in certain drivers between 2.4 and 2.6. For example, my firewire drive works great in 2.4, but doesn't work at all in 2.6.
WTF? No one in the parents post did they say anything about wanting free versions. I, for one, would be more than willing to pay for a linux version of Project, and even more so if it were open source.
Well, I'd hope he's subscribed to the linux ieee1394 mailing list, which gets much less traffic than lkml. In any case, I'll follow your suggestion and e-mail Ben Collins directly if 2.6.7 doesn't work (and so far, it doesn't work when I have serialize_io set to 0 in the sbp2 driver.... I'm about to try with serialize_io set to 1). However, I have heard from others who have e-mailed Ben directly with similar problems but who never heard back from him, so I have my doubts.
And, frankly, this is a shame. It's the one item keeping me from upgrading to 2.6 on three separate machines (all suffer from the same problem), and has me thinking about switching to FreeBSD where I know the drive works with -CURRENT.
Ben Collins, the maintainer of the sbp2 driver, is the ieee1394 project administrator and, I'd hope, is subscribed to the list. I also posted a bug to the projects bug tracker on sourceforge:
For me, none of the 2.6 kernels (2.6.1, 2.6.3, 2.6.5, and 2.6.6) I've tried will work with my firewire drive... All requests for help on the linux-kernel and ieee1394 mailing lists have either fallen on deaf ears or resulted in suggestions that didn't work. The same drive works fine with the 2.4 kernels.
Their voices are familiar to listeners, but not because of anything these actors have done.
Their voices wouldn't be familiar if it weren't for the fact that the actors have spoken with those voices. So, in fact, these actors have done something. If they hadn't, they wouldn't be getting the raise.
If they're that hard to replace, they obviously crucial to the shows success and deserve the raise. If the writers, animators, technicians, and other staff want a raise, they have every right to hold out for one. And if they're as valuable to the show, I'm sure they'll get that raise.
Not quite... All the episodes for this season had been made. They were saying that they might not be able to make all 22 episodes for next season, so they considered not airing a few episodes this season, to fill in the gap for next season.
What do you expect me to do, use some inferior crap out of protest that the driver is binary only?
I don't think anyone is expecting or suggesting that. However, that doesn't mean that the driver developers should actively lie about the license that their code is under in order to get around mechanisms designed to let kernel developers know that you're using a binary-only module.
Except that this incident is not about privacy. The issue of privacy never made it's way before the judge.
You lost any and all credibility with your lie about Java.

So would it be Slackware's fault if I did a "rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps" on a glibc update on my Slackware system?
Where did anyone place blame on the SUV? They just made an observation about lighter cars sharing the road with bigger/heavier cars.
I exchanged a couple e-mails with Katie Tarbox yesterday, and she insists that Parry is not her lawyer. If that's the case, who is Parry working for?
Dinivin
Well, according to an e-mail I received from Katie Tarbox yesterday, Parry isn't her lawyer.

2.6 has proven its weight in gold.
All 2.6 has proven to me is that it won't work with my firewire drive.

The act of arbitrary email delivery, to suit corporate needs over the needs of their clients, does transgress the law, one way or another.
Then can you cite a legal case to back this statement up?

which has gone unanswered and even unassigned.
Not particularly uncouraging, huh?

Bullshit. A lot of people obviously trust Microsoft, and their entire OS was developed in private.

Sorry, but Maggie dancing to "Oops I did it again" is one of the funniest scenes from the last 5 years of TV.
Season 14 had some great episodes, such "I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can," "Large Marge," "The Strong Arms of hte Ma," and "Dude, Where's my Ranch."
In Season 15 we have "My Mother the Carjacker," "Milhouse Doesn't Live Here Any More," "The Ziff Who Came to Dinner," and "The President Wore Pearls."
All of those are, IMHO, much better than Hell's Satans, and the octuplets episode.

That's your opinion. Obviously FOX disagrees since they did, in fact, decide to give the actors a raise.
Here's the thing:
If they're that hard to replace, they obviously crucial to the shows success and deserve the raise. If the writers, animators, technicians, and other staff want a raise, they have every right to hold out for one. And if they're as valuable to the show, I'm sure they'll get that raise.

Actually, most fans that I know (including myself) consider 9-13 to be really weak, but think that the past two seasons have been quite impressive.

I think the point is that I have a "free" DVD player on my Windows box. Came with my DVD drive.
Then, unless the DVD driver was free, the DVD player certainly wasn't.
