    you probably know all about that idea

    but for anyone not in the know, digestive system immune disorders are maybe imbalances where the missing counterbalance is an intestine full of worms. we evolved with intestines full of worms, and having no worms in our intestines is a recent and abnormal state of affairs. so some people "need" the worms in order for their immune system to perform normally in their digestive system

    an advertisement is essentially a form of seduction. that's why sex figures so large in advertising. you are trying to entice someone into buying your product, to woo them to come hither

    so when you intrusively force someone to view your ad, you've just completely destroyed the psychology of what makes any advertisement work

    you have in fact performed a pavlovian experiment: you've force someone into an unpleasant experience, then associated that unpleasant experience with your brand name. much as with pavlov's dogs who started salivating whenever they heard a bell because you always played a bell before feeding them, forced viewing associates the unpleasurable feeling of coercion with your brand name and products

    so all these idiots have done is perfected the art of anti-advertising, of driving people away from your product

    just make the ad nonintrusive, and anyone who is predisposed to your product might click. that's the best you can do. anything more intrusive simply destroys your brand name with the pavlovian association as described above

    Oil and the middle east will not cease to be a problem for us or the rest of the world because of electric cars. That is profoundly naive. Any middle east oil we fail to consume will be more than offset by Asian demand. Will China demonstrate more or less restraint than the west has when they experience disruption of their energy supply? The last time someone messed with an Asian power's energy supply we got Pearl Harbor.

    so let the fundamentalist muslim nazis bomb shanghai instead of new york. then when gas goes to $8/ gallon on supply freak outs we can happily speed along in our electric cars, unaffected

    then china has to go into the middle east militarily to ensure its supply. so china is bled of its young people and trillions of dollars while we build our economic might in peace, unaffected by the insane conflict. rather than currently, where we bleed all of our money and young military men and women in the middle east, while china happily builds its economic might on the oil supply we guarantee the security of for them

    someone who understands why boob jobs for teachers is wrong, but thinks expensive toys for military boobs is right

    how did that military and intelligence spending stop 9/11? how many aircraft carriers did it take to stop 19 assholes with boxcutters? how much money were we spending on intelligence when the 9/11 hijackers got their visas approved in the mail a couple of months after 9/11? how many trillions and how many dead americans did it take to install the new generation of corrupt jihadi breeding iraqi and afghani governments? corrupt governments the jihadis had a tenuous reason to put the blame on the usa before 9/11, but now have a much more plausible reason to blame us for? you feel safer?

    you honestly believe the massive money we are spending in afghanistan or spent in iraq makes one tiny bit of difference in terms of the threats facing us? what i see is it makes us out to be a bigger more pompous target to take down and thumb in the eye to pump up jihadi resolve and morale. what the bleep are we doing there? why aren't we decoupling ourselves from the middle east and letting themselves kill each other in fundamentalist madness rather than getting us involved and making us target numero uno? why aren't we spending 1/100th of the money we spend there so we can drive electric cars AND SIMPLY NOT CARE about middle east oil, and also STOP FUNDING THE JIHADIS every time a soccer mom fills up her SUV?

    everyone has skeletons in their closet. you still have to hunt them down to find them about someone else on the internet, even without the false premise that you couldn't find them before the internet (you could)

    and you also have the fact that everyone else's skeletons are equally findable. its the new normal. and maybe the new normal is better, because there is nothing to be ashamed of when everyone is supposed to somehow be ashamed of the same thing for some reason no one can put their finger on anymore

    more succinctly: that evil significant other or that evil employer can't hold your drunk photos against you when they also have drunk photos out there too

    that an employer's perception of you might get you fired and this carries huge implications? yeah, i think i can comprehend that concept. do you think you are informing me of something that i am not aware of?

    make damn sure the internet carries nothing that might get you fired. and if something is out there about you that might effect your employment, why the bleep didn't you make sure that didn't get out there? it's something you can't control, like a friend photographing you and labelling you in the photo? why don't you try picking your friends more carefully, or situations where you might be photogrpahed more carefully, or having more discretion around a camera?

    who is to blame but yourself?

    this whole issue is a nonissue, it's the same bs as old as time: avoiding responsibility. "i wish to shift blame about the negative consequences of my behavior onto someone or something else"

    no: you are your image. take ownership of it and manage it. because of all the heavy implications you are well aware of. lesson number one: discretion and self-control and choosing your friends and social situations where you let loose wisely

    any potential employer or significant other that would judge you so harshly for simply having a life is frankly an employer/ S.O. you don't want to have anything to do with

    live your life, and stop worrying so much about micromanaging your public image. us who are well-adjusted simply doesn't care as much as you think we do about pictures of you drunk. its just simple not that big of a deal. the misperception is yours: that anyone cares. we don't care

    the internet is what it is: it shows more of our lives, longer, as permanent mementos. adapt to that new reality and accept it, because you can't manage or alter it

    anyone who would reject you or fire you based on what the internet contains about you is someone without a level of tolerance you don't want to be involved with in the first place. and if you don't want that behavior of yours made a permanent part of your "internet record", then learn the art of discretion

    because this is not about other people, or facebook, or the internet affecting your image in ways you don't want. it's about YOU affecting your image in ways you later regret

    you have no one to blame if something is out there you don't want to be out there except yourself. take responsibility for your image. or shift blame onto others, and whine about it, to no effect whatsoever, because you can't do anything about it

    if you don't want people to see something DON'T POST IT ON THE INTERNET

    because the fine level of control you desire: "only this person, at this time, in this context, can see this piece of info" is a nonstarter, because it takes 10x more time and effort to define the context of the info you are sharing than it takes to post the info. there is no better way to completely and utterly destroy the pleasure of a social life than weighing it down with such weighty micromanagement

    so just don't post the info! no one is going to micromanage their social lives to the point where no information is leaked in the wrong context, mainly because people aren't machiavellian supergeniuses with omnipotent future sight to know every miniscule fine grain social context in which their information is not being told to someone they didn't want that info told to

    the better solution is far simpler: SHUT UP and DON'T POST. or post freely and talk freely, AND GIVE UP YOUR RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MISUSE. that's really your only choices

    the control you seek starts with your mouth, or your keyboard. blaming facebook is just shifting responsibility and personal accountability away from you when things go wrong because you weren't discreet

    a market without any regulation is dominated by its largest players. who proceed to do everything unfair you complain the government does, and more

    a government is theoretically accountable to its people. it will never be perfect, but no government is worse than an imperfect one. so you want to FIX government, not DESTROY government, because if you destroy government, everything you complain about GETS WORSE, and you've destroyed the only means of addressing the unfairness that bothers you. large corporations are not accountable to you. government IS. that's the big piece you are missing in your understanding of reality

    look at any historical tract from any time period in any area of the world, it's always the british worrying about the french getting ahead or the spanish worrying about the portuguese fort or the dutch worrying about the belgians or the germans or the danish worrying about falling behind, etc., etc.

    not to mention the main point is that the technology that enabled the european powers to colonize in the first place was only possible because of nationalist rivalry back in europe

    otherwise you simply have domination of the entire stock market by a few wealthy players. small investors will leave, or continually suffer an invisible tax on every one of their trades

    its a classic case of the largest players in a marketplace abusing natural imperfections in the market to their advantage. the big lie of libertarianism is that markets, left to themselves, are egalitarian and self-regulating. bullshit: markplaces, left to themselves, are stories of abuse by its largest players at the expense of smaller players, in dozens of ways: collusion, price fixing, flooding, etc...

    this is a simple truth you need to understand: for the sake of fair and free and equal marketplaces in this world, you need continual "intrusive" (defined as intrusive bureaucracy by potential abusers) government regulation. in the case of the stock market, the solution is simple: a "heartbeat"

    french spanish and british frigates would not have been sailing around india, china and the south pacific, making military inroads, if french spanish and british galleons were not first doing their best to better shoot holes into one another

    in fact, you can say china and india stagnated behind european scientific advancement precisely because there was no fever pitch nationalist rivalries in those areas

    european history is exhibit number one of scientific advancement propelled forward by nationalist rivalry, hardly an example of a contrast to what i am saying
