Other than holding the most disproportionate amount of economic, political, and military power of any population in world history, you're absolutely correct.

Disproportionate to what, compared to whom, by what measure, using what data? I'd say most monarchs and their family held a greater disproportion of all of the above influences in most of human history. If anything, the US has made people more homogeneous, not less. Futhermore, there are no reliable measures, and by many measures the US is not in the lead for at least two out of three of the above, and the third is debatable. If military power can't be used effectively, should it really be considered power? If so, then Russia must have the most power in the world, considering it gets more sunlight than any other country.

I'm not saying the GP was at all correct -- I'll even go so far as to say he's completely inaccurate, and spouting the dogma of white supremacy -- but your statement was equally absurd, although perhaps not at first glance.

AIDS only ruins one life. Teenage mothers ruin two.

Having a child when you're not prepared is worse than an STD. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the root of the problem -- lack of education and/or access to contraception/protection -- but motherhood essentially ends the education and/or career development of the unprepared parent. Its consequences reverberate through society in the form of welfare and increased crime, whereas STDs pretty much only affect the individual. Given the choice between curing all STDs and preventing all unwanted pregnancy, I wouldn't hesitate to choose the latter. Fortunately the solution to both was introducted almost 100 years ago with the latex condom.. now if we could just get people to use them.

Sure, there's a lot of risk involved, but the world doesn't owe you anything, let alone guarantees of success. You have the opportunity to succeed, which is all anyone should expect.

There's a reason actual sandboxes are only enjoyed by small children. The freedom to do whatever you want can be liberating and exhilarating, but only if you've been confined, and only until you realize that an environment without goals and limits is largely unfulfilling.

It's more like this: What could the surgeon have done that would have made her look *better*? She obviously wanted her eyes open more, for whatever reason, without considering that they were already perfectly fine, and that *any* change would look freakish. It's like having a circle, and then trying to make it more circular. It's impossible. If it didn't look like a circle to begin with, it was only because of your flawed perspective. Likewise, her desire to have more ideally caucasian-shaped eyes" was likely impossible, and no surgeon could have changed that.

Demand for plastic surgery exists largely because of a disconnect between reality and perception. Just look at Michael Jackson. He sees his nose as "too large", despite the fact that it's now a mere sliver (or possibly a cap, depending on who you believe). This woman apparently resolved the disconnect between reality and her self-perception, but not until it was too late.
