I have heard the MSN over AOL stat is deceptive. Because it only counts people using the AOL client, it does not count people who use AOL as their ISP.
ICQ sucks it is such a pain to use. I am now using Winjab. Even though all I talk to use ICQ. But Winjab is getting good enough so I am soon going to try to "convert" those people
It always seems much of the software I've used goes through a cycle. Software starts with promise. But then it reaches a point of "perfection" where no real improvements can be made. So either the software is not updated anymore so a future OS breaks it. Or just turns into bloatware.
Seems open source software might be the answer. Just reach that point of "perfection" and end it there. Just minor tweaks for the future. And no need to totally rebuild software every few years.
Of course this CSS system is supposed to allow them to release them in different places at different times.
Of course 90% of the time the first place will be the US. I mean why else is USA zone 1.
Of course what people will do is buy their DVD from the US. Just get a DVD Player which allows them to switch zone or buy one from the US.
Of course the MPAA gets mad a gets a solution passed in congress.
Ban the exporting of DVDs. So of course smuggling DVDs will become normal. You just need to get one DVD out and you can make a LOT of copies too sell.
Of course at airport they start looking for DVDs just like they look for certain drugs, guns and bombs. The MPAA introduces another copy protection "feature" scented DVDs. This allows them to train dogs to sniff baggage looking for smuggled DVDs.
This I think is the logical end result of all this.
I really wish apple would release a Quicktime player for linux. I think if apple did this I could use Quicktime for video streaming without hesitaion. Is this true for anyone else?
But I need to use Real to include linux and if I'm already using Real why bother with Quicktime?
I wonder if Apple is unwilling to release Quicktime for Linux because of Microsoft. Becuase this would be one less reason for using Windows on the x86 platform. Microsoft might then want to "punish" apple.

People managing Mac OS Servers would be used to not giving security a second thought.
This is because no one would bother trying to break into Macs. I mean why so you gain access to 1% of the web servers in the world.
Hmm "Security by rarity?"
Of course the problem with Mac OS X is anything they creaks UNIX would probably work against Mac OS X.
Microsoft OEM Western Region Pilot Program Identifying PC Bids that do not include an Operating System for each PC
Microsoft OEM western region introduces a pilot program that rewards you for notifying us about Bids that do not include operating systems and helps you help your customers to be compliant.
Seems they wanted any order without an OS
By submitting bids that request PC systems without an Operating System due to a Microsoft site license, you can earn points and win!
Why would anyone mention they are ordering non-OS PCs because they have a site license. Just order non-OS PCs period. In the example Microsoft gives the bid was not for non-OS PCs. It was an order asking to pre-install the companies CD-image because they had a site license.
Seems to me you send in a non-OS order. If Microsoft finds out that the company thought they could install the OS because of a site license, perhaps through an audit, then you could win the prizes.
Hey you could use these to get the internet to Antarticia. Sure latency would be measured in weeks. But it would still be their fastest method of communication to civilization.
That should be GNU/Tool
the government will hold a defacto monopoly
You mean like Microsoft! yeah that would be awful.
As opposed to Linux were you have Red Hat, Caldera, Mandrake and Debian etc etc.

Gee, doesn't this guy realize he is now going to get an angry letter from RMS telling him it is GNU/Linux not Linux.
"Guh-NEW" word a horrible "word" sounds like "Pee-U" so if RMS whines about this enough people will call Linux Pee-U/Linux

Could you tell me how to compile MySQL?
Doesn't the GNU in GNU/Linux mean GNU not UNIX?
Oh great we will get tons on CDs with Linux on them....Hey this might not be so bad.
There will of course always be people who know nothing except how to click on the word processor icon and type in a document.
Well what more should you have to do to type in a document?

Actually for the last 8 years IBM has been granted more patents then any other company. Last year it was granted 2800 patents.
IBM got $1.5 billion in profits from licensing patents last year.
So getting IBM to give up patents could be a hard sell.
I wonder if it is possible to "GPL" a patent.
Maybe allow a patent licensed for free as long as the software it is used in meets the free and/or open software definition.

I certainly feel sorry for anyone who get slashdotted
Of course Microsoft will give a rebate on the number of months the customers have left.

But that ISP is allowed to "sell" me to another ISP.
Wouldn't most internet pipes in China be owned by the goverment?
If so, doesn't the Chinese goverment have a right to decide what goes through their property?
