    Alternately, you can go here and buy something.

    If it doesn't have to be a DVD player and you're minivan has the space, try Fry's for an Audiovox VCP/LCD combo. I can't find it on their webpage right now, but know they had some listed not too long ago. Its a console with built-in loudspeaker, RCA input jacks (for game consoles) and has headphone jacks. My wife's Nissan Quest came with one of these installed from the factory.

    As for my handle. The whole point (which you OBVIOUSLY didn't get) was that, while anonymous, I at least have the spine to post under the account I signed up with. You, however, haven't had your testicles decend yet which is why you're posting under AC.

    .. from cable to DSL. The only thing thats keeping me? The contract.

    With cable, I can drop them any time I feel like it. With DSL, I have to sign at least a 1 year contract. Then there's the issue of the bandwidth caps.

    I'd gladly give up any instance of having TWC at the house. I could get DSL for easily $15 cheaper/month but won't for these two reasons.

    ..where I work now. When I worked at BMC Software, they gave everyone coupons for a free Honeybaked ham every Thanksgiving and you got a $500 bonus on your Dec 15th paycheck.

    The only thing I've got where I'm at now is my company is closed when the NYSE is closed. That means I get Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off with pay. Big whoopdie-do. Its not like we'd be doing anything if we were at the office anyway...

    The config is in NVRAM on the controller, but there's also about a 4MB
    "partition" (not really a partition, but config area) on each drive in the
    array that stores information on things like position in the array, etc.

    Easy, there was an article not too long ago talking about using nuclear energy as a possible powersource for laptop batteries. Granted, you're not going to see a 10cm butterfly dragging a Dell laptop battery, but technology is allowing things to get smaller and smaller. I can't imagine that they wouldn't be able to power this puppy via a small nuclear cell or some other efficient method.

    I also admit I take the product reviews very seriously when I am going to buy something, especially if it's not cheap. I do this even if I don't plan on buying it from Amazon

    Hopefully you're not just relying on Amazon's reviews. Personally, I talk to friends and family then look online using groups.google.com.

    I'd really like to see what Amazon has to say about this. From mishaps like this to the supposed recommendations from this "person" -- I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this is simply another bot generating high ratings for Amazon partners in an attempt to push the ratings up and thus drive up sales.

    Would I buy from them? Nope. I'll stick to visiting my local Barnes and Noble.

    Couldn't tell you teh version off-hand. Its set to the default settings though.

    Seems to crash mostly when viewing the comments. I'll get a pop-up regarding not being able to find some host, close the error and then the whole app crashes.

    I usually open the comments in a new browser window so I don't have to keep hitting the back button. Crashes 90% of the time.

    While not in IT, Dell's storage lab (testing CDRW/DVD drives) still uses OS/2.

    They have a system called a CDCATS that only runs under it.

    The company was supposed to port it to NT. Either they can't or haven't bothered yet.

    Likely, they can't since NT won't allow direct access to the hardware.

    Hell, if they'd start to actually offer a pick-and-choose (aka. cafeteria plan) package, they'd get a lot more customers - even with the commercials.

    I don't like the idea of having to buy up to another teir to get HGTV, The Comedy Channel, MTV/VH1, Discovery, Cartoon Network, etc. along with HSN, all the religious channels, all the spanish channels, BET, etc. Why the hell should I have to pay for channels I don't want/watch just to get the ones I do? Surely the technology exists (filters, etc) to push just the channels I want.

    Hell, even the box has a MAC address. Filter content using that and you'd never have to come to my house to add/remove traps.

    Until then, I'm sticking with basic cable.

    Then again, Austin's been a testbed for Time Warner with other things as well. Like their all-news channel (Austin and NYC were test markets) as well as RoadRunner when it first came out..
