AMD has long since surpassed Intel in quality and innovation. AMD chips now are:
1. faster 2. 64-bit 3. use less power & generate less heat
Intel is now catching up and immitating. Intel kept blathering about how 64-bit is useless on the desktop, then did an aboutface and grudgingly implemented AMD64 instruction set. Intel is also switching back to an updated pentium 3 core (which has now been rebranded as pentium M) proving once again that AMD was right all along: increasing the "megahurtz" while lowering IPC count was a boneheaded idea. And with the new CPU model numbers they are trying to downplay the importance of clock speed -- after years of brainwashing the consumers that this "megahurtz" thing is all that matters.
In short, you are either an Intel shill or you've been living under a rock for the past 5 years.
Well, duh! That's one of the things I like about working in computer animation. In my company there's maybe a dozen windows boxes and most of them are used by HR/accounting/reception. All the production work is done on Linux and Mac.
Out of curiosity, I just checked itanic prices at dell. The cheapest configuration for a single (dual capable) 1.5GHz itanic with 2GB RAM and 36GB SCSI HD is over $17K. For comparison, a similarly configured 3.6GHz Xeon (also dual capable, 2GB RAM) is just over 5K.
The article poster is simply trolling. Where the fuck can you get an itanic for $2000? The cpu *alone* costs that much! The article that the moron linked to confirms this: "The 1.4GHz Itanium 2 comes out Monday for $1,172 in 1,000-unit quantities. A 1.6GHz version comes out in May for $2,408 in similar quantities." (last paragraph)
Need I give any more reasons for why it's not popular?
It has been observed that very often SCOX will have a small trade (100 shares) significantly above the current price. This caused the stock to close higher than it otherwise would. When will SEC get involved?
This lawsuit is so nonsesial that it will be dismissed on summary judgement. I read the complaint (all 4 pages of it: here ). I don't even know where to begin. Too bad in US you don't get penalized for filing something this stupid. Oh well -- at least it will shut up the trolls who were saying that GPL is untested.
I was with you until you said "ramdisk". Why? Linux is very efficient at caching data, so that ramdisk doesn't actually improve performance. What exactly are you building that requires such a weird configuration?
It seems that the dumbass who posted this has no clue and didn't even read the article. The article is talking about trademark. (... The company claimed his use of the name was trademark infringement.).
Repeat after me: you cannot copyright a frase, but if you use it in conjunction with offering a good/service, you can trademark it. It's getting really annoying when even the article posters get the basic facts wrong.
If you want more of a challenge, try writing a regular expression that find any tags along with anything in between using only greedy matching.
duh! Repeat after me: HTML is not a regular language. There is no regular expression that can match it. The problem arises when people try to use regular expressions without understanding what they are. But, as the saying goes, when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail...
Debian developers basically have two options: either reign in the development cycle or rename "Debian Stable" to "Debian Obsolete". I've been a long-time Debian user, but now I too am looking for greener pastures. The question is where to? Gentoo? Fedora? Is there something that compares to apt-get?
The fact that you have to run as administrator to get any work done is a security hole big enough to drive a truck through. It is ridiculous that you can trash your filesystem just by double-clicking a mail attachment. *All* linux distributions I've used set up a user account for you and encourage you to use it. Mandrake, for instance, gives you a big red warning if you start KDE as root.
Until microsoft fixes this it will be plagued by security holes. And don't give me this bullshit about usability -- Mac OS X got it right, why can't windows?
He successfully dragged out the case for decades until it became irrelevant and DoJ gave up.
for the US Govt, against Microsoft: lost
He won the case. He was not involved in the appeal, which was still won, despite Bush administration's best efforts. But that didn't stop DoJ from settling with MS on really ridiculous terms.
for Al Gore, against George Bush: lost
Yeah, he lost when 5 republican-appointed supreme court judges outnumbered 4 democrat-appointed judges. What exactly can a lawyer do about that?
for SCO, against IBM: on the way to losing
You're kidding, right? He (or his associates) have managed to drag the case out for two years without a shred of evidence. Think about it, he is handling a case in which there is no chance of winning on merits, even the judge is saying that SCO has no evidence, and yet the case drags on. To SCO delay = win, so in that sense, he is winning.
Make no mistake, SCO has some of the best lawyers.
And they are going to provide free wireless access on Mars.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet. It has outlook integration and it's open source, so there is no vendor lock-in. http://kolab.org/
And here I was thinking that only AMD does something new these days.

...and the award for the most ridiculous Linux distribution name goes to... Mandriva! Hounorable mention to the runner up, Kubuntu.

So, if you've used Debian before and then migrated to something else, do tell. Is there anything that compares to apt-get? (no, urpmi is NOT it).
Now I see it. SCO suit is not only about spreading fud. It's also a retaliation for/bragaining chip in this suit.
It's called "Why Not To Do Everything with PHP and MySQL". ;-)
What is SEH? How is it different from exceptions found in C++, Java, python, etc.?
Can anyone explain this?
Bid: 0.01 x 100
Ask: 9,000.00 x 100

What are the good/bad domain registrars? Is there a comprehensive list with feedback somewhere?
Alias (Maya) ...
Side Effects (Houdini)
QNX
Watcom
(that's just off the top of my head)

Wake me up when they fix this. Oh, and are they finally adding an "enterprise feature" called "subselect"?

Slashdot to stop posting dupes. ok, maybe not.
because everyone else does.

You see, North Korea has no oil, and therefore no way to pay for its "liberation".
