On the topic of napster and schools:
With a couple thousand students 1 opennapster server located within the school would suffice for the campus and allow students to transfer mp3 at the speed of the lan instead of wasting net bandwidth. It would please the students and the network admins!
My dad started a medical pratice about 7 years ago and decided to use a Novell+Windows combination. Over the years he has upgraded the software up to Novell 5 and Windows 98. Of course now the software is always messing up and crashing. He wants to switch to UNIX but it would be too much trouble. He also considered upgrading to windows 2000 (seeing how its more like NT) but it would cost his practice $6,000.. See how Microsoft traps you?
Seeing how they complain that only the music is distributed, I think someone should create a standard that holds an entire album, with the graphics and info. That way entire albums could be distributed with ease. Benifiting online artists that have to distribute virtual covers as seperate unstandard graphic files.
486 not fast enough? ethernet is 10 mbit and cable is normally 1.5 mbit max (which i've never heard anyone else get) I cant see how a 486 could suffer enough to drop to bandwidth under 1.5 mbit. If so, a nice ethernet card wouldnt be very expensive at all. If you use one of those disk ethernet-routers you'll be guaranteeded to get speed preformance since everything is loaded from memory. Still think its too slow? Buy one of those 100 dollar out-of-the-box router things.
Notice my recommendation in my sig:P
I might have not searched very well but when i was looking for something like this that supported and modem and dialup ppp, i couldnt find it, so i just install a small customized slack install on a old 486, with the floppy distros you sure cant have you php enabled webserver and ssh;)
I had to read the book Martian Chronicles for school and it seemed like he was on crack or something while he wrote it, really weird stuff, no to mention I got a 15 on the book quiz.:/
I use my passwords by priority, they are kind of recycled.
My most recent (and hardest) password is for root on my box. Second is for user accounts and maybe a organizational password. Third is my ISP and crap like hotmail. 4th is all the other junk that I never go to but sign up for anyways.
Looks like more and more people are getting busted... I know of many colleges really dont care what thier students do but is this an invasion of the students privacy/rights?
I find it very odd when taking a screen shot of a playing DVD, I think it has something to do with this encryption but I dont know. Has anyone else tried it? Sorry for being "Off Topic" , Rob.
My theory is that, just like cd audio, people will copy dvd's to their harddrives, and distribute them on the internet, just as mp3, except now it will be mp4. Better go off and reserve www.mp4.com!

"Pretty Good Privacy"
Popular Science magazine has been doing this too except without a barcode reader..

AMD was just like VIA in pentium days except they didnt have a market share in io chips. Who knows, the Samuel 5 might be the next Athlon..
maybe they can finally get some xfree86-4 debs out :P

.. just by having 10,000 slashdot readers click the story link all at once ;)
This would be awesome! I mean, who wouldn't want their own personal build of w2k? I wonder if it builds in gcc *grin*
Does this mean I can run RC5 on my low power laptop :) ?
I dunno, but I'd think it would take alot of media to hold the amount of data that goes through russia (or any other country).
uhh..
1. Linux isn't even 10 years old.
2. GNU isn't even 10 years old
3. HURD hasn't even been in development for half that time.
Get your facts straight before you flame.
Even if they cant Open Source everything, atleast they are open sourcing some of it.

Can people less than 18 years of age go? My parents said they would fly me to a show like that and I am considering this one.

Texas, Chainsaw, Massacre?
Starts with a "p" ends with a "t" and has "iece-o-shi" in the middle?
