I've noticed that the prevalence of cats creates tremendous predation of small birds in urban areas. I wonder if the prevalence of catfood bowls creates similar booms of feathers all over the yard.
The flapping of one butterfly's wings can effect changes on the other side of the world. Once the butterfly collectors have caused the biosphere to implode, nothing will ever change again.
I think I remember this rant. Only back then it was bitching about Obama. And back further, it was bitching about Bush. The names change, but the technique is the same.
... if software can make a hardware problem seem to disappear then I have to ask, was the problem really in the hardware? Maybe the problem was in the software from the start. In my example of the truck throttle control I could just as easily say that the software did not account properly for the limits of the hardware, that the software was needlessly stressing the drive train. As a wise man once said, it depends on your point of view.
That's what I was wondering. With just four engines, probably running at close to max already, loss of one would not seem to be recoverable. Certainly they've thought of that, though.
"Will break out popcorn when it does re-enter to see who (if any) are the lucky winners of having their neighborhood re-decorated with Chinese space hardware bits."
No problem, the likely winners just toss another Tiandong on the barbie.
~1% of Earth's surface is urban. Hitting anywhere in a city at all with a 100 kg object from orbit sounds a little frightening.
Make sure that, while running away from your 100kg object, you don't get creamed by all those 1 and 2 ton objects running around the streets of the city.
It is taking a paradigm shift to get the steering wheel out of the car. Self-driving may finally eliminate the traditional interfaces. But I still bet it will have buttons.
I could tell if the comp was stuck in a loop by looking at the blinkenlights. Simple, natch. Seeing if the damn thing was booting correctly took a bit more stutz.
Ditto on that. Ospreys in Oregon, Eagles in Big Bear.

(Apologies In Advance)

To iterate is human, to recurse, divine.
I had thought that $80k was fairly minor, too. But for small operations it makes an op possible. Still, I'm thinking this is the tip of the iceberg.

More cops vs. more jails.
Nah, he just has a memebot running.
Toggle the switches, baby!
Dust in Dubai? Nah...

Problem not in hardware. Problem in meatware.
Whop whop whop.

Is this like the Niven thing?
Are these the same guys who announce the end-of-email every few years?
...right along with the paperless office.
Oh, the joy of a positive feedback! And if you're going to go with a non-standard key, make it a BIG key, right above the Enter!

Yes. I expect it will have a keyboard.
Actually, I think you'll find that a lot of people use TV for the background noise now.
And I want to get to the point where we can wave our hands over cheap plastic colored blocks and have marvels done for us, like Star Trek et al.

Ha! As xkcd sorta said, "Siri, order 2000 pounds of lima beans", "Confirmed."
When you start screwing your computer... and your computer starts screwing you... I doubt too many people will use their computers as much.
I'm more worried about people won't use their people as much.
Yes, yes, we're in a dystopian nightmare! That explains everything!
