  1. Secure Format? on Preview the New Napster · · Score: 1

All the content available through Napster's fee-based membership service will be licensed for sharing in the Napster community. In order to give artists and rights holders choices about how their music is shared, we've created a new file format that includes a layer of security. There will be some unrestricted files in MP3 format, but when the rights holder requests it, we'll wrap their music files in a security format that defines how the file can be used.

How much you want to bet the first person that cracks this secure format lands a 5 year jail sentence and $500,000 to napster? How much you wnat to bet this secure format is cracked within a few days of the opening of Napster?

And here is the shocker... FreshPorts.

Too bad its all under BSD liscence.. cus now M$ can use all of FreeBSD's port system in Windows XP 2005+ Profestional

is that it does require a FAT16/32 drive as the first parition. This is because it saves a bunch of its files in this partitions root directory. Also, note, that it cannot boot the linux kernel like lilo does.(it cannot pass parameters etc...)

So generaly what I do is put a FAT32 w/ XOSL and Windows on the first part of the drive, then a second partition, or Hard drive with LILO on it.

I think that this is one of the best boot loaders. Not nessicarly in *features* but ease of Use. Would be nice if Mandrake, or another Distribution included it by default. Its all point and click.. pretty niffty.

I think you need to take a closer look at RFC 1149 the Carrier Pigeon Internet Protocol (CPIP). According to this site Pigeons can fly 40-50 Miles per hour, so that would give you about 2 hours per webpage. I would reccomend some major caching servers on the school end. Also it would be a good Idea to invest in a Pigeon farm, this would also give your students great expereince in farm managment.

Another idea is to break some standards and perhaps use an UDP tunnel betweent he sites on your pigeons to make sure you don't have to do all the tcp handshake stuff. O yeah.. .perhaps using larger packet sizes would be a good idea too.

hey it makes total sense if you want to turn a profit.

Big companies/orgs won't even care if its $100 (or more) a seat, as long as its a quality product that works.

For example,.my school is buying CAD software at $1000 a seat, for a 30 Computer Lab. They are also putting on 3d Studio max on all of these computers too. Money is not the problem for em, its getting it up, running, in as little time as possible.

As far as I can see its a smart move that RedHat will prolly copy pretty soon. I think it also implies that Caldera will need to provide better support if you are paying per seat.

maybe I will just walk over and talk to them.. as I only live a mile away. in fact I talked to Rand Miller about a month ago at a local computer job thingy. Cyan had little to nothing to do with the programming of Myst III, all they did was give the basic story line. UbiSoft is the one responsible for the problems. You may ask why would Cyan outsource the development of a successfull series of games? It si because they are devloping a thing codenamed "Mudpie". It is a massizly mutli-player game (Somthing like Ultima/Everquest) While at the job thing they had some in game screen shots, they were simply amazing, it convinced me right then and there that I would buy the game. Hell, I may apply for a job there too.

It doesn't appear to be that bad, from my first read over. However, I would imagine, with the addition of many DSL customers it will change. One of the key selling points for DSL with me is that Qwest/USwest, did not care what services you ran off your DSL modem. I run http, ftp, stmp, pop3, Counter-Strike, and Tribes 2 servers off my DSL line. I would not be suprised if MSN changed their AUP to stop people from running servers, to somthing similiar to @home.
