  1. Re:At least they're smart enough on THG Looks at ClawHammer Mobo · · Score: 1

Well either they have a north bridge, or they have another chip separate from the cpu that does a good job of impersonating the north bridge.

  2. At least they're smart enough on THG Looks at ClawHammer Mobo · · Score: 4, Interesting

to have active cooling on the north bridge, too many new, high speed bus mobos are coming out right now with passive cooling that doesn't come close to making it easy to OC.

  3. Re:Simple fix... on Windows/NetBIOS pop-up Spam: · · Score: 1

I did a similar thing to someone's autoexec.bat who had their c: shared fully on my dorm network back in the day.. I inserted a comment telling them that, to get someone to help them fix it, and a pause, so they'd have to see it =)

  4. Open source genes = bad! on 3rd Chromosome Deciphered · · Score: 1

But if the human genome was open source, we'd have problems with code branching.. which would be the "real" version and which would be offshoots! If no one owns it than anyone can make changes to it, and then we'd be in a lot of trouble...

Unless of course your computer is far away from the stereo, or you want a remote that works at the stereo. This thing would be cool for me because I have ethernet near my stereo but not a computer... too bad it's so dang expensive.

  6. With a screen that size on Casio's Lin-Win Hybrid Laptop To Ship Tomorrow · · Score: 2

With a screen that size, and a keyboard that looks to be not much wider.. is it even POSSIBLE to type? It's hard enough on a regular sized laptop keyboard, I can't imagine shrinking it any more. (either that or the pic they have has a larger screen) 2000 is still too much for me to buy a laptop tho

  7. Re:I agree with "Red Mars" on Stepping Closer To The Space Elevator · · Score: 1

In one of the Gateway books by Fredrik Pohl, they actually have a space elevator that is blown up by terrorists (the ground station) and the loop ends up feeding into a huge man-made lake and vaporizing it

  8. My BBS? on Every BBS That Ever Was · · Score: 1

My bbs isn't on that list, and that's probably cause none of the BBS's that i called did much file distrubuition (where I'm guessing a lot of the advertising came from) Still the list is cool, it reminds me of how much fun it was to run the BBS and how much time i spent (wasted) on the "art" scene then. Man those were the days. (course the internet is so much more fun)

  9. Viable energy source? on Zero to Rutabaga in 6 Seconds · · Score: 1

I wonder if they built this just for the hell of it or if they actually see there as being a market for this kind of car. I would presume the former, but you never know. 220 lbs of rotting vegetables for every 62 miles seems like a lot of vegatables, especially if you want to go driving more than once a month. (or if more than one person has a car like this)

  10. Gnutella is going to be a hard one for the RIAA on Aimster Seeks Protection From RIAA Demands · · Score: 3

The RIAA may be succesful in destroying Napster, but it's going to be great when they go after the Gnutella network. Who are they going to sue then? Isps aren't going to block Gnutella traffic, and even if they did, encrypted versions of it could be just around the corner. Gnutella networks have already risen to very usable levels thanks to Limewire and Bearshare's methods of blocking out abusers of the system, and encouragement of good behavior. Plus these programs get even easier to use every time they come out. The RIAA is looking to be in big trouble, not to mention the MPAA. (go 2600, win that damn appeal)

  11. Why would they? on Can Open Source Escape The Apple Horizon? · · Score: 1

Apple doesn't care because they are a buisness, and they won't make any money off of open source the same way everyone else does. Besides that, they make most of their money on their overpriced proprietary hardware.. the OS is just a way for them to sell it. (Along with colors like Grape)

  12. 13 MIL? on On the Subject of Ximian and Eazel · · Score: 5

I guess ferraris must be standard programming equipment nowadays. Otherwise I can't figure out how they would spend 13 million on making a file manager.

  13. logo? on Interview With XFce Lead Developer · · Score: 1

The mouse is a good symbol for Xfce, it's a small animal, smart and fast. The X can be seen as the X-Window symbol, so the whole logo symbolize a fast light environment for X ;-) Perfect logo IMO.

  14. Best size for gaming lan parties on Slashback: Profits, Marks, Secsh · · Score: 1

I like lan parties that are around 20-30 people, I went to one this size a few weeks ago where I only knew two people personally, but the rest were all people I had played UT with, so it was cool to finally meet them, and I feel like I know them. A 5000 person party would be slightly different, but then again TG has a slightly different purpose than fragging your buds.
