My apology to both of you. USA Today now changes the link of the article and the body of the article as you scroll down, or hit arrow keys. I accidentally linked to a different story. Have fixed it. Thanks for pointing it out, both of you.
GitHub is popular among coders, but people in other industries, for instance, don't necessarily know about it. Perhaps a bad example, but Google search engine is popular among a wider group. People in entertainment, business, technology and other industries know about it, and likely use it all the time. Many might not like the iPhone, or may not be able to afford it, but they are aware of its existence. Same can't be said for GitHub. Even many in tech industry might not really know much about GitHub.
So Google makes new releases available. But in the United States and other places where carrier-locked phones are sold, the update won't come to your phone without going through OEM and Telecom operator. Typically, the OEM will refine the update to its own taste and add a few stuff (and remove things it doesn't want -- but not things that it is required to leave there as part of its agreement with Google), and then the update is sent to carriers. Carriers are the last vector in this process so even if Google and the OEM, Samsung in this case, has pushed the update a user on Verizon won't get it unless Verizon wants them to get it.
You don't have a Blu-Ray player? An Xbox 360/One or PS3 or PS4? They could play the DVD. I don't have an optical drive on my work machine, but I have an Xbox One, so on rare occasions when I have the Blu-Ray movie, I have something I could play it on. I know optical discs are going away but a Blu-Ray player could still come handy in the years to come.
Even if services that offer same-day movie screening as they hit cinemas arrive, I would rather go to a theatre and watch it on the big screen. Watching a movie, in my opinion, isn't just about watching the movie. It's the experience, something I feel I wouldn't be able to replicate on my smartphone or TV at home.
Not a dupe. Microsoft accidentally published a blog post earlier this week. That's what the old story is based on. But hours later, the company had pulled the blog post:)
People continue to submit Apple-stuff all day. Maybe you could submit the things you would like to see on the front page and then we can have a conversation.
I have an Xbox One, and its built-in media player just sucks. And there's no alternative! I know you guys have promised that VLC will be available later this year on Microsoft's gaming platform, but can you share exactly how long we have to wait. Also will VLC support HEVC files?
I would want to know how they keep VLC media player sustainable. As far as I know, there are no ads in the program, and they certainly don't bundle stupid programs with VLC.
I admit it's too long, but the story seemed too important and there were just too many things that I wanted to highlight. Be rest assured that we will only have big summaries every few months. Thanks!
I have an iPad, and a Nexus 6. As much as I would like to read things on my 6-inch phone, nothing beats reading a magazine on an iPad (and other tablets), in my opinion. So I see some value in tablet, but yeah, it's not really serving as many purposes.
Fixed, thanks.
Thanks! Really appreciate it. We put a lot of effort in finding the right stories for our core readers.

You're right. The original submission had Apple Inc. mentioned. I removed the Inc like always but missed the period. Thanks for pointing it out.
It does have a microSD card slot.
Thanks -- fixed.

Hi! Sorry, we had an outage. All fixed now. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Precisely. People could be annoying at times, but when they resonate the same reaction as you, it's cool.

Everything sounds like a plug when you think about it.
Jean-Baptiste Kempf told me that he has been reading Slashdot pretty much every day since 2003!

haha -- yes! Sorry, we are having some issues in Firehose, so I missed it. Fixed.
Guys, tomorrow is the last day for your free Windows 10 update. It's really important that you know that.

No, today's post sheds more insight into the GPUs, and how they fare against each other -- with benchmark numbers etc.
Will be forever in your debt. Thanks.
