  1. It's got the balance of Yin and Yang. on OS X Vs. Linux On The Desktop · · Score: 1

I got my first view of the new OSX when one of my
colleague brought an iBook recently. I must admit
it has a few issues yet to iron out such as

    1) lack of apps that fully support the new OS
    2) the GUI is a resource gobbling monster.
    3) there was one or two strange glitches like the Dock
refusing to appear once after IE clashed.
    Hmmm...may that's M$ problem not Apple's fault.

Anyway, i have been a Linux fan for something like
2 or 3 years...i only use Linux at home now ;-)
Sometimes, i really want to tear my hairs
out whenever i wonder when Linux would
get a piece of delectable and exquisite GUI as OSX.
Well, not that i've got a right to complain
as i have not contribute anything to the community.
....but still....i like to indulge in my fantansies ;-P

  2. Which distribution allows easy kernel upgrades? on Linux 2.4.16 Released · · Score: 1

I tried Mandrake 8.0...didn't get passed the lilo
stage after all the compile, bzImage and so on
I tried with RH6.2 and failed utterly in getting
so many apps running properly with v2.4.13
i just give up. (Suspect it's the old libraries)

Finally, tried the latest slackware CDs and presto!
Works fantastically, but i must admit it's not
as easy with it's pkgtool instead of rpm

I don't know about other distros, care to share?

  3. Speed, scalability and maintainability on With XML, is the Time Right for Hierarchical DBs? · · Score: 1

....while are these issues can be addressed with
time and widespread adoption...until then businesses
or individuals are unlikely to jump in.
It's a chicken and egg issue, i guess.
    Just my two cents worth.

  4. XP juggernaut on Road Runner Doesn't Do XP · · Score: 1

Just been to an XP launch in Singapore. Frankly,
i am amazed that AOL is not doing something major
considering how it's messaging and other services (think MSN)
are being displaced in the new XP OS. Not only AOL
but applications such as winzip, photoshop
and so on....are facing the same fate as Netscape.

I know this had been suggested many times but
seriously, many of these private companies should
consider working closely on the Linux platform
to break up the M$ juggernaut...before it's all too late!

  5. Re:Business models on Matt Dillon On FreeBSD 5.0 VM System And More · · Score: 1

The point is....the way it is now at least the open source
movement ensure the BSDes and Linux continue to benefit
    from each other's openness.

Secondly, no one should depend on any for
profit companies to guarantee support for the movement.
IBM or any proprietary companies may come and
go as they wish......but we need more than
mere promises from CEOs of such companies to protect
the interests of the movement....alot of folks just
plain miss this point, each time they piss
    on the GPL.

    Just my two-cent worth..

  6. Spirit vs Wordings of the contract on Python Now GPL compatible · · Score: 1

This is a clear case where the owner intended to respect the spirit of the contract although at some point the wordings were not agreeable by both sides.

There are too many other cases, in my view, where the spirit is not honoured rather the wordings twisted to suit each's interests.

Hmmmm...i'm surprise Pentagon is actually toying with the idea.
From where i come from....a country in Asia...the practice,
is never to give away any PC components once it's used in a sensitive organisation.
But i always wish someone could enlighten me...harddisks
..i can understand...but how the hell do you
recover information from RAM or soundcards or videocards!!
