The funny thing about intelligence is the very thing you need to recognise it, is the same thing you may not have. So how can you be sure?

for example, and Trump has had to declare bankruptcy repeatedly because he cannot cook up a successful business venture. He only knows how to profit from others' suffering during their failure.

Yet here he is, extremely wealthy, and soon to be the most powerful man in the world. That doesn't sound like failure to me. How does your career compare?

the "fall" of the empire wasn't a single concrete event like the fall of Nazi Germany or the end of the Ming Dynasty but a gradual process.

No-one said it was. But it did fall, just like a gently flowing creek finds it's way from mountain to sea. Just because it didn't happen in one day, doesn't mean it didn't happen at all.
Back to the original context, are we reaching peak American Empire? This doesn't mean we all wake up tomorrow living in caves, but on the surface the fall appears to have begun.

I suspect that it was something other than taste. The "typical" farm animals bred for meat are easy to feed. There are still parts of the world where sheep and cows are allowed to graze, with the food coming for free (to the shepherd/farmer). Also, these animals tend to have a lot more meat per "hoof" than dogs and other animals.

Nope, as I said I've tried a few different types. Here in Australia Kangaroos, Camels, and Rabbits are pretty much free to breed, but they don't taste so good so there isn't much market for them. From the non-mammals, there is snakes and crocodiles, and of course insects, but none of them have the same sweet taste as the regular beasts.

Depends on the situation. But extremely low dividends aren't much different from no dividends.

There's two paybacks from investing, dividends and capital gain. Apple shares, like the new energy industry has experienced massive capital gain.

Irrelevant. Saying something is a two trillion dollar industry while ignoring the massive subsidies, isn't a serious observation.

Right, so why do you insist that fossil fuel is so good then?

Why indeed the double standards? The actual subsidies for oil are significantly lower when you compare like to like.

Well compare away. I notice an obvious lack of examples here so I'll start:
Every war ever fought in the middle east.
7 million deaths each and every year for free, pretty much a WW2 every decade.
    Now your turn.

You do realize that isn't currently true?

Yes, do you realise why subsidies exist?

When you do decide to sell your Apple shares? If your investment is still paying dividends then there's no reason to change your position.

Whose $2 trillion was that again? If I threw $2 trillion of public funds at stamp collecting, I imagine I could get a lot of awesome stamp collecting.

When your stamps create cleaner and cheaper energy, ie one of the most critical resources used in human history then get back to me.

If this market can survive on its own, then fine. But it's funny how much subsidies it consumes.

Compared to the trillions that the fossil fuels have accumulated over more than a century in subsidies it is peanuts. And it will deliver much higher ROI. Why the double standards?

My point it that it no longer matters. Nothing you say or do right between now and Jan 20 will change the fact that he got elected.
From what I know of Trump he is the worst kind of loose cannon, so no amount of guessing about his real position will help. We've already seen that he changes his mind with the weather, so we'll have to wait until he is in office, then make a call on his decisions as he makes them.

Did you express the same kind and gentle sentiments when you heard about the "My number one priority is making sure President Obama's a one-term president" meeting?

Isn't that normal for any political party? Of course they want the opposition to serve the shortest possible time in office. There are lots of problems with the GOP, but wanting the Dems to serve only one term isn't one of them.

This is the silver lining from this. The Dems should be so shocked by this loss that wholesale changes are made to clean house.
I found it hard to get an intelligent opinion from a Trump supporter, but I heard one the other day that made me think. She said Trump is a representation of true democracy. The Republicans hated his guts, yet still let him run because their process is democratic. The media hated him, but people still voted for him, This is the power of a real democracy right there. Even when everyone hates you, you still win. The Dems Superdelegate concept is utterly undemocratic and it cost them the election, so a Trump win is a win for democracy.
