  12. He is great. Really, he is. on Archaeologists Join Police To Help Fight Crime · · Score: 2, Funny

" notice you didn't cite any of these major papers by this super-genius archeologist of yours"

He's found the Lost Ark, the Holy Grail, Thor's Hammer, and even the One Ring. But those dratted nazis, Belloc, and the customs officials keep confiscating the results of his explorations. You'll have to take our word on it.

Also, not only does this guy do field archaeology and teach at a community college, he also talks for an hour or so each night on the "Art Bell" show about the dangers of isotropic money which has been inserted into the cash flow by space aliens.

  13. Indiana Jones - Raiders of the Stolen Buick on Archaeologists Join Police To Help Fight Crime · · Score: 1

Indiana Jones fought the Nazis, for crissakes. Compared to this, fighting common two-bit crooks is a cakewalk.

  14. I didn't even tell you about the CD. on Newest Audio CD DRM Proves Ineffective · · Score: 1

I did not even tell you about the CD I found at the store. The band is called "Maxell", and the name of the album is "CD-R". It is on some sort of incredible remainder program: you can get 50 identical copies of it for $19.99. When I try and play it, I get no sound (sometimes I see an "Err" message on the little CD player readout.) I tried all 50 and got no music out of any of them! I wonder if "Head Cleaner" changed its name.

There's a lot of this stuff around. Years ago, I used to use a phonograph. Once someone gave me a rather thick LP entitled "Frisbee" by the band "Wham-O" (I think it was a supergroup merging the Ohio Players and Wham!). When I put it on the record player, the needle slid right off of it. After a few attempts at this, I flung it out the window. It wasn't good for music, but that record sure flew real nice.

  15. Can you help me with cassette I have? on Newest Audio CD DRM Proves Ineffective · · Score: 2, Funny

I hope this is not off topic, but could you help me with an audio cassette that I have? I bought it at the store, and it won't play on any player. It is the self-titled release by the band "Head Cleaner". Instead of music, I get a couple of minutes of loss hiss. Is this some sort of cassette tape DRM problem?

  16. Yahoo ! on Which Webmail Service Do You Use? · · Score: 1

I've used Yahoo for years. The automatic spam filter is great: I probably get 50 or so spams a month, and almost all of them end up in Yahoo's spam box without me having to place it there. They have full-feature custom filters available as well.

I also have a couple of junk Hotmail accounts too: but these are not good for much of anything since Hotmail does not have spam filtering. The Hotmail accounts can get 50 spams a day.

  18. Boss Smiley on Lost Atari 2600 Dune Prototype Discovered · · Score: 1

There is one very evil smiley face, which I believe is part of the Sandman comics: "The Boss appears as a human male in a suit, with a large, perfectly spherical head and an overlarge "smiley-face" expression."

He first appeared in the PREZ comics in the early 1970s from DC.

  19. It could have been good. on Lost Atari 2600 Dune Prototype Discovered · · Score: 2, Interesting

It could have been good, you know. Remember the imminently fun Atari 2600 version of "Superman". Compare this to the much better looking for very dull (flying Supes through the deserted city gets old) "Superman" game on the N-64.

  20. Music analysis and DRM on What Counts as Music and Why? · · Score: 1
