I don't really consider the Facebook app all that innovative but it does a great job presenting a web site in a touch phone.
Folks, Facebook has not left the platform. We don't even know why the developer is off the iPhone project (maybe he bitched too much?) -- We DO KNOW the employee at Facebook who happened to develop the Facebook iPhone application wrote a lengthy piece on his displeasure with the App Store.
This does not equal fewer applications.
And this is not droves of developers. Raise your hand if you had heard of Rogue Amoeba before this.
The sudo ("su do", pronounced/sudu/, though/sudo/ is also common, as is/sjudu/) command is a program for some Unix and Unix-like computer operating systems that allows users to run programs with the security privileges of another user (normally the superuser, a.k.a. root). Windows has a command runas which has similar functionality.
I am fine with this. After making more than a 1000% off my initial investment everything is pretty damn peachy.
You can decry them, excoriate their "cool", label them as poseurs, but it doesn't really change the fact that Apple makes good hardware, a great OS, and a shit load of money.
That's a straw man argument...
It doesn't matter what the users decided to do. If I buy a Porsche and want to drive it off road and break the thing that doesn't mean Porsche covers my lack of foresight with their bumper to bumper warranty.
And FWIW, claiming the OS is way more locked down than a video game console doesn't make sense to me. One is an operating system, based on a lot of open source, sold as a proprietary unit to be installed on proprietary hardware on which you may install other operating systems. That you can take this operating system and run it on other like hardware is not insignificant. A video game console is just a piece of hardware. I don't know of any efforts to get the XBox OS running on a MacBook Pro and call it a video game console.
Troll my ass -- life without Flash for navigation and setting type on pages is GOOD.
The web is NOT ACCESSIBLE WHEN BUILT IN FLASH because most people building with flash don't care to use tools Adobe built for accessibility.
The web !== flash.
IF all Flash were used for were cute little casual games and streaming video the web would be better off.
However, people use it for navigation, setting type on pages, and all it does in these cases is hide content away and lock it down to certain devices which happen to support the flash plugin. It blows.
No!
Read the story. This is a developer seed. Maybe something borked things so badly they yanked it out of this seed.
Call me when it's a shipping product and this same story is true.
What you think this is the WildWildWest?
There can't be a lack of packaged platform. And as much as I want it to happen the majority of the masses who joined facebook last year will never, ever, ever, ever, EVER fill out an OpenSocial profile much less manage one or grasp the concept. They want to go to the mall man.
Now GET BACK IN LINE!
p.s.
-- why is everything a dig at Apple. For fracks sake, prior to the most evil hideous oppressive App Store there was nothing like it... you try to manage growth like that.

-- i thought this would be a fun thread to mod but couldn't resist a movie quote.
Uhm... a little flawed IMO.
Apple is not a music publisher, Sony is a music publisher.
Apple was forced into DRM to sell product, Sony created its own DRM.
I do, I do wish Apple would make a GarageBand/LogicPro --> iTunes Store for Indie artists. Wonder if there is more deal with the devil in the reasons they do not?
Amazon was also probably forced into DRM. Even the famed 1984 removal by Amazon was at the behest of the publisher.
This was my original intent, to point out that anti-DRM ranting against music downloads was frequently misplaced toward the likes of Apple or other also-rans, and the real target, the publishers, was lost.
I agree about the convenience factor. If it is convenient enough people do not care.
Oh this is awesome... I have always wondered what these were like.
So let's see, Sheevaplug, Pogoplug (completely ghey website stock photos), and who else make a plug form factor worth looking at?
Great test of your Sheeva for traffic handling... haha. It didn't go down eh?
Post your results mate.
Now you can use your DRM-laden "books" from Amazon on your Windows computer!
Why do so many fawn over Kindle and other like devices with DRM in text, IN TEXT!@, after spending years railing (often against the wrong targets) against DRM in music?
-- maybe this will mean a more useful crack for said DRM --
I am definitely interested in how Windows 7 fares in the world but... I'm pretty sure this was posted as an infoworld.com link bait piece. 5 links to various infoworld pieces.
Wonder who is watching their analytics today rubbing their hands laughing...
I'm sorry -- is the Atom really an equivalent to the Core 2 Duo?
And no server software.
And higher wattage.
And graphics?
I can't even tell the price from that page.
But yeah, cheapest mini is 599.00 but you get a hell of a lot in desktop OS X and the basic hardware package as well.
Typically these days (cough)thelastfiveyears(/cough) if you configure exact specs Apple is not all that way out on cost.
I am still stuck on why you might have such a need to run Linux that you put it on a VM on this machine... rather, I'd be interested to hear what you are running. For me, it's all stuff that just works on the mostly *nix like OS X. I know there are things here and there which aren't ported but between fink and macports it's a narrow window.
Server is a nice setup... I do like having regular desktop for those front facing media apps though.

From the OP description:
"the functionality of 'sudo' which is found in all Linux systems"
Why is it you Linux boys always think everything was invented on Linux?
Unix
Maybe someone who bought Dell stock in 2003 instead of AAPL ? Now this is seriously OT.
Frack me I'm on auto-troll today. This is not a troll post ... it's an accounting of the FACTS!
Obvious mod due to disagreement and not content.

Uh, in what made up world?

We can't go improvin' our infrastructure now, that'd be socialist and SCARY
And we can't rely on our socialist defense now can we? That'd be socialist and SCARY too... Oh wait.

Ahhh sorry -- missed the part about scrubbing. Nice stuff.
Dude... your pipes look a LOT like my RSS reader. OK?
Amazon did have to lay the cable across the oceans to deliver said books. You gotta pony up!

The ability to utilize a remote CD/DVD drive for installation on a Mac without optical has been around for year or so... since the Air was released IIRC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Install_Mac_OS_X

Actually if you read the Apple Mini page the idle wattage is claimed to be http://www.apple.com/macmini/

That's interesting. The mobile space was pretty damn dormant here wasn't it before the iPhone heated things up.
