Since when has having a license to drive in a state been an indicator of citizenship in the nation?
I agree with the sentiment entirely, but think about the alternative. (Federal ID?) Any time someone mentions that, people start shouting Big Brother! Big Brother! (myself included actually)
It's not necessarily bad for dealing with Office documents, but IMNSHO, it can't scale to the point of replacing "files" altogether. How would you write code, for instance? (foo.c, bar.c, stdfoo.h)
MS doesn't want you writing code anyway. But if you need to do that, maybe they'll sell you a special dev edition for a couple grand.
Maybe that'll work, but it seems like an awful lot of effort and overhead to duplicate something (a hierarchical file system) that we've had for 20 years.
Well, they need to keep coming up with more things to slow down the pc so you will want to go buy the new 4Ghz machines next year, right?
I think Fox is owned by News Corp., so they wouldn't be "another suitor", and if I remember correctly, it was Echostar buying Directv, not the other way around.
Homer: I reluctantly accept your proposal!
Bill Gates: Well everyone always does. Buy 'em out, boys!
[Gates' lackeys trash the room.]
Homer: Hey, what the hell's going on!
Bill Gates: Oh, I didn't get rich by writing a lot of checks!
haha - years ago I worked at an engineering company as a draftsman. All the draftsmen sat in one big room with the engineers in cubicles along the sides and the bosses in offices with windows behind us. I was still in highschool at the time and it felt about the same as being in study hall or something. When I switched jobs and got my own cubicle I felt like I was really moving up in the world.

Because of stupid, but fast, computers, we are heading toward having the bulk of human knowledge instantly available to anyone net connection. How will this leverage technical progress?
yeah, unless stupid, but rich lobbyists have their way and everything becomes pay-per-view

Given the rate of consumption of propane he'd have to get to create the degree of cooling, I'd guestimate that he could produce better than 10kW of power from this thing. That's enough to run your house.
I think you're right, I have a 12kW propane generator at my house and it doesn't use propane fast enough to put ice on the propane tank. (it's not a jet engine, unfortunately, just a two cylinder four stroke)

We have a prototype working now that uses the Clapper for activation. However, early beta tests have exposed a problem: The user has but one free hand for activation since one hand is already holding the mug under the tap. This has forced users to smack their forehead twice to activate the tap. Feedback suggests that voice activation is the only way to go.
HAHA - leave it to us techies to design a cool but nearly unusable interface every time...
