Then apparently I WOULD regard it as much better... since the only furniture I own is mission style -- clean, simple, elegant. Thank you for educating me, I had no idea it meant that in the furniture context.
Those are the only situations where gun ownership is allowed in Ireland too, and I believe it's limited to shotguns and low-calibre rifles. To get a permit, you must be a member of an established hunting club, and to become a member of a club, you must have character references from the local Police, the current directors of the club, etc. Every legally-held firearm is test-fired by the police each year and forensics taken and recorded.
At the same time, gangland gun killings in the cities is on the increase, roughly one gun murder every four or five days -- which is high when you consider that our population is less than 4 million.
Most of the illegally-held firearms are "surplus" from the paramilitaries up north, who are now moving into organised crime at full tilt -- they were always involved, but now they don't have the fun of killing one another to distract them, so violent crime is skyrocketing as they find new ways to entertain themselves.
Why thank you, The Ape With No Name. This was in 1988/1989, back when Ireland was an economic basket case. We couldn't afford to outsource in my day! The Indians cost more than the local programmers! Seriously, I was being payed 11,000 Irish pounds then -- about $15,000. It sucked.
Well, in Ireland we are strongly anti-gun too (years of watching the lunatics up north shoot each other to shit does that to you). However, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay here and hope you return again.
I once wrote a monstrous "lottery" / "pools" system in RPG II on an IBM System/36 for the COPE Foundation (formerly Cork Polio) in Cork, Ireland. It was ugly... although the customer was happy with it at the end.
Jeez man -- who says "Guillermito" is actually his name? It sounds like a play on "Guillermo" (William in Spanish, I think). It's probably a "nom de guerre".
Funny thing is, that Americans are much more sympathetic than Europeans. I never heard jokes about Canadian money being 'fake' simply because it was worth 'less' than the US dollar
I have. Endless jokes about European national currencies, and now the euro, looking like "monopoly" money, about the Canadian dollar... where have you been? This is par for the course. Don't take it so seriously. Console yourself with the fact that you are probably much, much better off than those doing the insulting! As for the "King" of America, that's a whole different ballot box of stolen votes (dives for cover). I do agree with you on the idiotic "USian" phrase. I find it absolutely ridiculous and tend to dismiss out of hand anything else posted by anyone using this phrase.
Good point. If the same study was performed in the US, I suspect the overall happiness numbers would be higher. Americans are generally more optimistic, I've found in my five years here, and also enjoy a higher standard of living (yes, yes, I know quantity doesn't mean quality but material wealth certainly helps).
Apple claims the same, at least for the 17" Powerbook G4. All I know is that the sound from the speakers is much better than any other I've compared it to. However, I am not an audiophile so what do I know anyway.
Looks like BigBadBri hit a raw nerve with you there Atzanteol. A single euro is worth more than a single dollar now too. I assume you'll be hurling epithets at me in no time now.
Of course, these are ridiculous measurements for a currency. It doesn't matter if I'm paid in euros, US dollars, sterling or Turkish lire for that matter. What matters is the stability of the currency and my purchasing power.
If Chirac is proven to have broken the laws of France, he will be dealt with in accordance with those laws. Whether or not he is qualified (I would argue he is damned sight more qualified than GW) to hold the office of head of state, he is indeed the head of state of the French Republic. Your opinions have absolutely no impact on this fact. Where is the proof that Chirac's close friends were brobed by the Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein? Proof -- not speculation. Actual facts.
A former Indian colleague of mine (granted, quite paranoid and prone to conspiracy theories) speculated days after the event that 9/11 was a way to force H1Bs out of the US... I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at total stupidity of this remark.
Also, unfortunately, life here is a little bit more parochial. The whole St. Louis "Where'd do you go to highschool?" line cracks me up. I have a foreign accent! I am obviously foreign! If I tell you where I went to highschool, you'll barely recognise the name of the country, not to mind the town or school... and yet they persist in asking.

I wouldn't regard "Arts and Crafts Style" as any better than Ikea! The phrase suggests shoddy crap with seashells on it to me... but good point.

I don't know what the solution is, wish I did.

I have no mod points, but if I did I would give them all to you for that... crass maybe, but very funny. You made me laugh out loud.

Like that hoary old chestnut about masturbating; "I was just relaxing..." "Oh, really? Were you relaxing with your right hand or your left?"
That is a brilliant idea... BRILLIANT!!!
Nonsense. Not all, or even the majority, of good developers contribute to FLOSS.

Winton? Are you the Winton Davies who works for ASNA in the UK?

Marry me!

s because it only runs on Apple hardware, and those who own Apple hardware that will run OS X already have a copy.
Marry me!
