"In a statement, a spokesman for Microsoft said that the company withdrew the free fonts for several reasons. "Most users who wanted the fonts have downloaded them already," a company spokesman wrote in an email to ExtremeTech. "They ship with recent OS's - Windows XP and Mac OS (via Internet Explorer). Microsoft has also found that the downloads were being abused - repackaged, modified and shipped with commercial products in violation of the EULA [licensing agreement]."
So, everyone who already wanted them had downloaded them, they come with XP and OS X, and people were abusing them.--Damned OSS hippies;) (joking, joking, out down the chair)
Didn't know you could determine that everyone who needed them already had them. Interesting. I'd like to see the metric used to determine that.
I never said they had to spend every waking moment doing this, those are your words. As far as me sitting on my ass posting to slashdot, I am at work, what's your excuse?
My point was, sure, OSS is a good thing. As I stated above, which no one has commented on, btw., is why aren't they utilizing the same channels everyone else is? You don't see Novell people out there marching do you? No, they use the system same as everyone else.
As far as I am concerned, marching over a frigging operating system is ludicrous, and I posted as such, and stated why I thought so. Now, since you obviously care enough to comment to my posting, tell me why my position is wrong.
Something I don't quite get. The march is designed to promote open source as a viable solution to the state's OS needs right?
Why isn't it done like everything else in government life: ie, make a bid on a project. There are tons of OpenSource consulting companies out there, make a bid like the Novells and MSs of the world and see what happens.
Or, has this already occured?
Now for the flamebait piece:
With all the problems that face society in general today, these jokers are going to march in support of open source software? I mean, really.
DEAN: Why has ICANN delayed for months your access to its official documents?
AUERBACH: It's obvious from their filings that they don't like me. They can't ground their fear in my votes, because I've voted with the majority 60% of the time. If they had given me the information when I requested it, the results of most of these votes would have been the same.
The "They don't like me" line is unnecessary. It's also rather childish. I applaud this man for sticking to his guns and using the system, but this takes credence away from what he is trying to do. Leave the childish remarks out, comepletely unnecessary.
I know less than nothing about this technology, nor what it would be used for, therefore I must post to this topic;) Mod me -1 dumb if you must, but here are my questions:
1) What is this engine useful for?
2) What industries would this apply to?
3a) Is there video anywhere of the launch/flight?
3b) How bout the crash landing, I'm more interested in that. Any video on that?
OK first off, the abc.au news piece was an abomination of English: "In South Australia's outback history has been made with a team from the University of Queensland successfully flight testing their supersonic air-breathing scramjet engine atop a rocket.
How about: A University of Queensland team made history today when they launched their super-sonic airbreathing scramjet engine atop a rocket. The test was conducted in the outback and was the first successful one of it's kind.
Yech, even that one sucks, easier to read though.
Anyhow, on to the point. Later in the article, it said data was recorded from the descent. Is that descent back to earth or what? Was it controlled or did it just crash land? The other page has almost as little information too, unfortunately.
But then, all is fair in love, war, and corporate politics.
I hate this expression. All is not fair in any of the above. This is a case where they are trying like hell to cover their own tracks. I am beginning to think maybe Mr Auerbach is going about this in the wrong way. $2.7mil for 7 top level domains was given to ICANN. Go get the IRS involved, find out how much money went into the pockets of those board members. There's your real ticket. Creative accounting can only get you so far. Check the homes, the cars, the life-styles of the other members. There's your $2.7 million. Of course, I am sure the people doing the real work at ICANN are getting crapped on, just like everyone else.
the rubber coating on the handle has a slight tear in it. (Old bat) Started out at 29oz but is no longer...assumptions have been made though.
On a side note, completely unrelated, since we are way off topic anyhow, I understand that soon college baseball will be making a move to wooden bats again. We'll see.
Get a grip. It's slashdot. Some people are not from America. They may not get it. Glad you did. Glad you also felt the need to explain your thoughts on my post. What a neat idea, being able to respond to posts.
As far as the concept of what's funny or not, it's a damned shame you didn't find it funny.
Yeah, it's a damned shame. All we want is some frigging NEUTRALITY when news places report the news.
It's gotten horribly bad these days. When's the last time some news was reported without the "personal" slant added in? Good thing Reuters is still around. I also think (for the most part) the BBC does a good job.

Dude, you need to put down the crack pipe and back slowly away. Adjust that tinfoil hat while your at it to.
your comment is rather amusing, but damn slashdotters, have some compassion. This poor dude is looking at a very uncertain future, and was looking for a little help. Not a direct attack at you Pig Hogger, but as someone who went through a similar situation with Lucent, getting the same "no information because you are an employee" crap, it hurts, and leaves you confused and upset...not to mention worrying about that next paycheck and bills you have.
So, folks, show this poor person some compassion will ya? I'm sure the majority of us out there have had the rug pulled out from under us. Not fun in the least. You can laugh if you want, but when it happens to you, the song sounds alot different.
The old expression you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink comes to mind.
In some areas, yes, this would address some of the issues caused by the school districts not having the money to throw at vcrs, tapes, etc. However, if the child doesn't have the interest in learning, then it won't work.
Of course, if you can reach just one child...then your job is done.:)
"The fee is US$99.95 per year, and as a thank you for being loyal customers, existing iTools members can reserve a first year special offer of $49.95."
That's kinda cool. If you have been with them for a while, it's not as expensive for the 1st year, but then you have to worry about the next year. Ah well, by then this will probably have morphed into something else anyway.
First of, call me troll if you want. I don't care.
Cell phones are for talking, at most instant messaging. If I want to play games on a portable, I'd do it with a GBA or something. It's novel, yes, and cool technology. But why would you want to try and play a REAL game on it? I just don't see the interest.
Sorry for the contrary opinion. If you disagree, tell me why.
using the infinite monkeys with infinite word-processors theory, I'd have to say that make more movies is the way to go. Would have a much better chance of a monkey pounding out a better movie than the throw a script together crap we see these days.
This story screams for stupid Back to the Future jokes.
/. gets done with you. You'll be begging for...{insert stupid joke here}
Please folks, save your dumber ones for the sequel.
On a related note, they got all this hype and crowds up....but didn't think to beef up the suspension, motor, drive train? Odd.
It seems the website is proud of their 1000 hits too. Wait til

cool. Thanks for the info. Too bad ABC didn't expound more upon this. It's pretty neat stuff.
