we may never again have such easy access to the more obscure music that isn't currently "in print."
fire up your news client and hit Usenet
bootlegs, ripped 78s, old radio shows and more can be found there, you just have to be patient (and while you are waiting down load other stuff, who knows what gems you will find)...
besides if it was in print at one time (on CD) it is available, it may be an import, or it may be used, but it *is* available somewhere.
as for LPs, check out flea markets and garage sales, clean them up with cool edit pro or similer and make your own mp3s/cds
In High school kids steal music, they copied it off of each other
In college kids steal music, they copied off of each other.
you know what? that was 15 years ago, but instead of copying a song off the internet, they would "literally" steal the CD off the shelf... "literally" causing the store, the record company and the artist to lose revenue.
the truth of the matter is those that were on Napster that are taking the music (with no intention of paying) wouldnt have purchased the CD ANYWAY! they would have either copied the hit off the radio, stolen the CD or copied it from a friend...
now I am forced to go to other mediums (ftp, usenet and limewire) to find the stuff that people have ripped from vinyl (stuff that is never going to see a side of a CD)... stuff like
Bob Seger - Back in 72 (the produce doesnt even own a copy)
VanZant (Johnny Van Zant, lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Tracker (Steve Millers Band minus Steve)
Ironhorse (Bachman Turner Overdrive minus Turner)
The Unforgiven (not Metallica but an 80's band with a four guitar front)
luckly I have these on LP and was able to convert them but someone else may not be that lucky.
and I wont even get into all the unpublished bootlegs that are available!
buy CDs used at pawn shops for $1 to $5... the RIAA sees none of it!
(I wonder if they will make that illegal next...)
but like you I havent purchased a new CD with the exception of a few indi artists in the last few months... in 2000 (using napster as a guide) I purchased 50+ CDs
Space Pirates running around in ships powered by 4bbl'ed, 10.5:1 compression, Chevy 350 C.I.D. engines, with twin forward mounted.50 machineguns and a smoke screen?
(if someone actually has an important, legit reason for using a messenger service, please correct me...).
Im a web programmer, 9 of my friends are web programmers. We used to work at the same company, but now we are working for 10 different companies. We all use ICQ, and we ask each other questions concerning problems we are having with code, or we toss ideas back and forth reguarding the projects we are working on.
do we goof off on it? yup, but it is also an essential tool for all of us
they have a hard time predicting the weather for tommorrow, much less the weekend, yet they are predicting what the long, long, long term weather is going to be?
Tonight there is a chance of darkness with a continued chance of dark til daybreak...
Doesn't it seem odd that we're about the only nation in the world that hasn't accepted the global warming theory and that we're the one nation that will suffer the most economically if we enact the necessary cutbacks and reforms?
and doesnt it make sence as to why the other countries are for it?
anything to help them become more competitive with us... if we cant keep up, we'll bring them down!
If they REALLY cared they would go ahead and implement it with out the US (but that would put them at a bigger disadvantage)
They read that skin cancer rates are rising.
could it be that people were out in the sun more (in the 60s 70s and 80s?). Farmers in the early years wore large brimmed hats and long sleeved shirts to protect themselves from the sun. now we get as naked as possible to get that perfect tan... and its killing us
Even scientists make mistakes.
No Way! are you saying that the earth isn't flat and that the sun revolves around the earth and that flies dont just appear out of dacaying meat?
next thing you'll tell me is that a man landed on the moon
less that 20 years ago they were saying we were heading for another ice age...
remember at one time scientists thought the world was flat...

so if Xerox has a limited consumer base (business and schools) just what is going to be the consumer base for this contraption? Im willing to bet its going to be SMALLER than Xeroxes (book shops and schools)... checkmate.
the problem with your theory is that you are assuming that this will be a consumer driven product, it wont be... it will be an industry driven product (the printer, not the books)
Limewire and usenet
