I have IPv6 enabled on my Ubuntu box, but I'm not running on an IPv6 network. For the most part, I haven't noticed any issues. However, when I set up tftpd on the box, I was initially unable to connect to it. It took quite a while to track down the problem to IPv6 being enabled. The solution, which did not require disabling IPv6 across the board (though that would work too), was to add a flag in the inetd configuration to specify that it was an IPv4 service.

So, it's not completely transparent in Linux either.

This epistemological nonsense concerning the needs of gamers continues to amuse. Here is the simple fact: nobody cares. The Playstation 3 will sell and sell big and almost no one will give a damn about "price". And the idea that all the other features the Playstation 3 provides (features that current "next-gen consoles" can't match) will make it a "vanity toy" is ridiculous. It's an actual 8-core cell processor computer. For real. Not a simulacrum, not a snazzy-looking Atari 2600. It, like the Aibo robot, and unlike almost every console ever made, will have [its] firmware and feature set modified by simply dropping it on the floor.

As I understand it, it's not actually illegal for US citizens to gamble online. The US has laws against running a gambling site in the US, and fairly recently made it illegal for US banks to transfer funds to overseas companies that run gambling sites. This makes it very difficult for US citizens to gamble online, but I don't believe there is a federal law prohibiting it.

On a more fundamental level, power tends to aggregate and become corrupt in a single source of government.

Conversely, though, larger governments within a hierarchy tend to be less corrupt than smaller governments within the same hierarchy, relative to the amount of power the governing body yields. In other words, more tax money is misappropriated per-capita at the local level than at the national level. OK, I have no statistics to support this, but seems that way in the US anyhow. :)
