I guess my point is that opening up a file in vi or notepad and cutting out a few lines isn't extraordinary in my mind. What I get in exchange is a good product with active and good development. So it's worth the trade off. If somebody does fork it and maintains all the aspects of WP that are good, I'd look at jumping over.
I guess - but that means finding a group that will do the amount of work that is being done to keep moving things forwards. I know I don't have that kind of time. But the whole thing is php - it's not an egregious amount of work to go in and cut or comment out some code - especially if I don't even have to look for it myself.
This isn't like having to download the source of open office to remove something and then recompile the whole deal from scratch. I don't need an ide or know about libraries, vi is all that's required.
Now if someone does fork it and does just as good a job as the current folks, then maybe I'd switch. But I'd wait to see if that really happens, or if someone forks it to make a point, and then the project just stagnates.
one way to disable it is to go into the code and remove the offending portion. couldn't be that hard to do. and once somebody does it and posts instructions, it gets even simpler. no reason to fork the project.
and wordpress isn't that complicated that this is something that no one but the most hard core will do. tons of wordpress users regularly go in and tweak it for their own uses. i haven't moved to this new versions with my site yet - i always wait a bit for things to shake out, and stuff like this is why. when i do upgrade, i'll just fix my install.
Actually - I wasn't suggesting that at all. This is a nice way to end the day - with a chuckle. I'm gonna go eat dinner and count the moments to tonight's Avatar episode.
The author does not report the facts. The law does not prohibit the copying of DVDs or CDs; it disallows the circumvention of anti-copying technologies like Macrovision et al., something that has been illegal in the US for a decade. The law specifically allows users to make backups of DVD and CD movies, software and music and other digital content for their own archives and to use/play on alternate devices (i.e., ripping movies to your hard drive to watch on a DVR or other device, ripping music to play on an ipod or other device, etc.). These specifically-named consumer rights are actually broader than those granted by law to American consumers. I am not sure what the author relied upon for his translation of the law, but I can assure you that it does nothing like what he suggests.
right. i'm sure that's part of why they resist. among other reasons stated here. basically, if switching back and forth isn't too onerous, i'd lock mine and leave it locked until i needed something. and then i'd find out which service will be used and just unlock the one(s) i need. then maybe they'd quit bugging me at target about being approved for a credit card. and maybe i'd quit getting all that mail from american express and the others. (though i don't know if they mail those out prior to doing an actual check or not.)
Well, just keep checking for a credit report. And the minute one popped up prior to you wanting one to exist, then freezing it would be a great start. If all the big reporting companies get on board, it would probably be worth your time to do something to get a report with each and then freeze it immediately. You'd be completely safe.
If it gets that way - and it isn't too hard to switch back and forth - I may freeze mine, as I don't need any new credit now, and just unlock it when I need to.
Maybe they are looking to avoid people sending it regular postage and then constantly calling to ask if it arrived, or going nutto when it never does arrive. This way, they force people to do what they ought to anyway, and keep the process cleaner for everyone involved. I'd also think that they want to do all they can to keep it from being trivial, yet without making it too difficult.
exactly. i bought one song from itunes and then realized i couldn't use it anywhere but on my laptop and ipod - so i haven't bought any more. but millions of people have. this service does exactly the same thing - just not using the dominant player.
That is a spectacular series - though it does fall prey to Hamilton's one weakness (in my estimation). Which reminds me - I need to read Judas Unchained and see how he did finishing what he started in Pandora's star. That guy is solid.

he said the whole point of life is to create germs tough enough to make it through space on a rock. i think he would have chuckled at this.
It was good too. Not great - but nice setup.

I'd wager this is true of any airliner - (dangerous fumes if it burns) regardless of frame composition.
Thank you. Very helpful.
If his 70 million dollar suit against CBS fails - he needs to stay in the public eye to pick up another job.
Engineers who want to hang people on meat hooks are the kind of engineers you can trust. Passionate - that's what that is.
I heard he has an email from Pres. Bush that he sent Boeing in 1945 proving that they knew the plane was unsafe.

it helps when it keeps the people who stole your identity from opening more accounts
You can put a lock on your credit report so that new accounts cannot be opened.
I haven't really seen all the stuff from Matloff. So thanks for that, I'll read through it.
I've read arguments both ways on the issue and I would just love to see some solid work that might give some objective proof one way or the other.
sad, but true.
what is this, digg? :)
More H-1b visas only helps those hiring techies, it depresses the wages of the techies themselves, for instance.
This is what I thought too. I did some digging but come up with a single study that supports this assertion. Are you aware of any?
anything running windows mobile can use any mp3 or wma as a ringtone. it doesn't matter who the provider is for the phone service part.

i'm referring to how he ended the Night's Dawn series and Fallen Dragon. but endings are tough to do well.
