I wish they would go away. It usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get them right. I guess I over analyze it. I see stuff and think "wow - is that a one or an L" and so on. Normally after I've gone through a few, I get to see some of the characters I'm confused about in different images and finally figure it out.
this has been a bizarre conversation for me. the guy said that technics were gone and he didn't know if the new stuff would work with the old stuff. you mentioned where technics could be found - and i seconded that along with the observation that it looks like most of the new mindstorm stuff will also work just fine. i'm not sure where it derailed.
the original poster had a concern that you addressed and i just mentioned that along with what you posted, and my observations from what the lego site has to say about the new kit, that he didn't need to worry. i have no idea how it ended up here.
in my mind technics fits an area in the lego world, that isn't as well known as many other sets that use more generic building blocks. when i go to a big outlet chain like target or walmart - i don't see technics on the shelves. when i show people my mindstorm kit-- very few have ever seen it before. so i guess that is where the distinction is in my mind. but that's just me.
would you say that it is safe to say that there are pieces that are unique to the technics and mindstorm kits? that they are not found in other kits outside those designations?
yes - i get that lego parts work together. i grew up on legos and bought my mindstorm kit not all that long ago (have to dig through my journal to figure out exactly when) and there were parts in that mindstorm kit I'd never seen in any of those kits i had as a kid. sprockets jump to mind as one type. if there were no more technic or mindstorm kits, i think sprockets would be more difficult to come by.
yep - and from the lego site, it looks like the new mindstorm uses technics also - so it seems that the parts for the new sets ought to work with the old mindstorm -- at least for the purely mechanical stuff, if not the rest.
Obviously this is much better than mindstorm. If you have a mindstorm kit, it is officially and woefully inadequate. What I recommend you do, for your own good, is to go out and buy this new kit. Then mail all your old mindstorm stuff to me.
i would love to have gone - and i'm not even really much of a gamer. these guys do such a good job of giving more context to the whole scene that it helps solidify it as a culture. the comic presents this life that i'll never get to live but can dream about. just hanging out, playing games and in general not worrying about reality. (and i'm not saying i want that life-- i think the reality would not be the dream, but that's the point of most escapism i think)
i thought it was icomplete too, at first but I think it is actually that enough wasn't cut. because this:
"A long established "sport" in the UK is that of welly wanging or seeing how far you can throw a wellington boot. Scientists at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth have built a robotic arm to perform this task, using an engine from a concrete mixer, and a gearbox from a Citroen along with several computers." makes sense.
Just take out "More details and a video at "
i emailed the editor on duty - but not in time apparently.
I don't know about personal files, but I think that I'll be putting my blog posts in there. If they enhance the ability to post to my blog (wordpress) then I will probably actually just write all the posts there. But right now, I'll probably post to my blog, copy the text and then shoot over to writely and save it there. Obviously it is not private, but I like that google will be backing it up for me. The jokes above about it never going away are funny - but really, that is appealing for content that I intend to be public.
And if anyone is curious. The document I posted to my blog went over - but without the title or categories. That gets fixed and it is a nicer editor than the one built into wordpress itself.
I wish I only had to reboot my ppc-6700 3 or 4 times a month. I'm looking at more like 6-8. The other day it hung, and I didn't know it. But it was completely locked up-- no calls or emails or anything for around an hour. Then I noticed, rebooted and it was o.k. for a couple more days.
Then of course there is the whole - going into flight mode all by itself issue, which doesn't require a reset, but leaves you without connectivity to anything outside.
basically getting a mac now means being able to do all the stuff you've always done on your pc - plus all the stuff a mac can do. in the past there was always what you were 'giving up' - now that's gone. it is now the windows machine that runs less software.
just about anything would beat the q1 in my book on battery life alone. 2.5 hours? That's just not going to cut it. Throw in the price on top of that and I just can't see it. I can get a nice laptop for less. This isn't that much smaller than one anyway-- they recommend carrying it in a bag.
I'm not talking about mobile phone providers- I'm talking about ISPs. I can understand some of the ambiguity - as half the respondants knew what I meant and the other half thought I was talking about mobile phones. But in regards to net neutrality in the US - which is what the article is about, the idea that the free market will work this all out automatically is not accurate. It is not a free market to begin with. If it were, I might find that argument more palatable.
i am sure your right. and in many ways, i'm glad. i want good writing to be valued so that really great authors can devote their time to producing great works. i'm sure that is part of the reason the ratio will stay as you describe it. i think it was in a china mielville interview i read, that he said he doesn't know how people write while they have other employment.
but i do really like the idea, no matter how long the odds, that there are chances for anyone who wishes to try.
i'm not sure how they can have a monopoly on either. lulu sells and ships overseas. so, if i write a book, put it on lulu and it isn't the suck, and people read it, then it can become popular and widely distributed.
publishing on demand certainly does not gaurantee quality, but the traditional model does not do so either. i've payed for and read plenty of books that were horrid. i wonder how many really great books never saw the light of day because the traditional model missed them.
i think the fact that that model is going away is a part of the 'improving' that this story is about. people who go that route and fork up a bunch of cash, have done very little research. even a cursory look will show that there are much better options out there. and really, you can't worry about those folks, life is not fool-proof.

that's what i mean - technics provides stuff you wont find in your harry potter or space ship kit.
There are some special parts that are needed for building robots that you wont find in the average lego kit.

i'm hoping some dotters who made it will post their own pics, links, etc.

you haven't done it right until you use a steam catapult to launch boots.

I created an account just for that purpose. So yes, but it's no problem.

you won't get past the potholes in the highway on the way there in the taxi
i'm not sure about that. the guys who used nitro on the airliner in 94 certainly didn't run into that problem.
Right - it just hangs and doesn't do anything. and after poking at it for a while, soft-reset time.

gadgets are not to blame for man bags friends is.

how many choices of providers do you have available to you right now? if i want decent speed and prices, that list for me consists of one company.
